I was very Anti-Ming around the time of the draft and thought he would be just another giant bust(pun intended). He has since proven otherwise. It's still early in his career some might say, but it's pretty obvious- all this guy has to do is stay healthy and he'll be a perennial all-star.

If there's any room on the Yao bandwagon, I humbly request a ticket.

I was wrong and you were right.

    Okay Yao bashers, sack up.

I'll go ahead and post here too, even though I haven't posted here much.

I didn't think he would be a bust, but I thought Butler or Gooden would have been better picks. I thought Yao should have been a mid first rounder and he would have been like Rik Smits- good scorer, but kind of soft.

    I was wrong!

    :)

Thanks for reminding me. I was making fun of all the people who was saying he was going to be the next Shawn Bradley. Now, I think it's safe to say I can also start making fun of all the people who said he would be the next Rik Smits.

Welcome aboard AntiSonic...always room for a good pbp guy ;)

Im not gonna say I told you so to anyone, but I recall arguing with someone that it would be entirely possible for Yao to put up scoring percentages close to his CBA stats..they insisted that in the NBA, there wasnt a chance of that..

    Well...what's YM's scoring percentage now smart guy??:p

I love it when Im right, especially when it comes to my boys!
    Go Rox!!:D

I'll kick in though I never considered myself a Yao hater.

mostly, I was just scared to death of the Rockets blowing the best opportunity and being embarrassed on a national scale.

I didn't want my beloved Rockets to be a punchline.

but now that the kid is hooping big willie style, I must confess that my elation and relief is in direct proportion to my previous fear and anxiety.

I yell out loud when he does good things.

    UP WITH CHAIRMAN YAO!

SOON you idiots will see the LIGHT. Steeve told me he would not re-sign if we draft MING -- he wants either Dunleavy or Jwill or Butler, RUDY will be fired and all of you STEVEE Bashers will have to lie your bed after you made in it.

TRUST ME Les will not this come to pass - the Rockets will either trade the pick or watch Steve walk. The Rockets should trade it for Stromile Swift.

    Sincerely
    Dana Barros

    Remember all of this stuff?

China will NEVER let him sign with Houston, we should trade the pick to the Knicks for some crap.

We want an injured Lamar Odom instead of Ming

He'll never get along with the team, he'll just be counting the days until he can sign with New York.

If we draft Ming, Steve Francis will sign with the Wizards

    etc etc.

I believed in Yao since day 1. No I didn't think he'd have a big game like the Mavs one that early, but I knew he had it in him.

I was right, you were wrong (the yao bashers).

    YAO MING -- THE DYNASTY!!!

The list of Yao bashers (or at least, anti-Yao) on this board and elsewhere around draft time was long and distinguished... I'm glad to see you guys coming around.

But I, for one, am not going to gloat about it... although I was certainly upset at a lot of the doubters and critical comments. The media were just salivating for a bust, and god knows many fans followed in their foot-steps.

Of course, all I had was a great deal of faith and good will toward Yao, and no actual knowledge of how well he'd play at the NBA level. The person who deserves all the credit in the world for converting you guys is Yao Ming himself.

So, way to go Yao. You're making a lot of believers out there.

I'm in. Not a Yao-hater, but I hesitated on the big guy too. Now he's proven me wrong. I'm actually quite impressed with him.

Ummmm, quetion: Should Yao be our first option?

    Go Yao!

Yup, because he causes double teams. Stevie doesn't always create that kind of a mismatch. It doesn't mean Yao better than Steve, it's just a matter of playing fundamental basketball. Feed the post!

Of course when he's playing Shaq a different strategy may be in order.

Does this mean I get to start an "I was right all along" thread?

Good to see everyone coming aboard.

I knew he would be good, and had a sneaking suspicion he would be this good.....just did not think it would happen so fast.

    Happy it did though !!!

Watching video of Yao made me so excited, it led to me making my first "fearless predition" based on mere speculation I've made since my horrible Derrick Chevious debacle. (DaDakota, you can't say you were right all along, unless you match it with a time you were wrong all along.) Derrick Chevious....*ouch*!!

My first fearless prediction in over 10 yrs was even hard to get out. Tacoma Park Legend got me excited though in chat one day.

    20-10 first year
Jabbar ability out of the gate with hopes of instinctive Divac passing as the years go by.

When we move him out to the high post, we shall all see the beauty of what fast penetrating finishers like Francis and Mobley circling a passing center can do to thrash the league....and zones!

imo, we have the perfect guard tandem to match with Yao if he becomes that passing center I dream of.

After watching Yao the first week of the season, I thought we'd made a mistake. The guy couldn't box out, grab a rebound, make a move towards the basket without traveling, and of course his defense was crap.

He's a lot better offensively than I could have imagined. He is showing that he can rebound. The defense is still a problem but most rookies even American ones don't play defense early.

I think we made the right choice. If he got some help last night we'd have won. That's our problem now. Not Yao.

I knew all along that Yao was going to be the next Wilt Chamberlain.

I thought he would be a good player but never this good so fast. Truely a special player that can change the game. He can become dominating!
