Don't be that guy. Only worry about the Rockets. Don't be like aggie jocking UT every second. Worry only about the Rockets.
you got some serious issues. nothing to hate about the spurs. great organization, great fans, great head coach, great players, cheerleaders so-so, ok mascot, great city, good arena, etc., though i get tired of abc, espn, and tnt always showing that desperate housewife chick cheering on the spurs. if the players were arrogant assholes, i would have a different opinion, but they aren't.
I highly recommend an anger management class for you, my friend. And I agree with another poster; lay off Robinson, he was the epitome of class.
Man what a big cryfest this was. I agree with maybe 1-2 points at the most For every hater, there's a diehard fan. Although I doubt there's any fan of you
I hate the current Spurs too. Their new stadium is in a horrible location and they serve HEB hot dogs. I at least want Nathan's brand.
How could you forgot this one? <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/nfurCV1FDpM&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/nfurCV1FDpM&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
In an order of 5 I would put the Spurs 4th or 5th.... 1. Mavs, without question. 2. Jazz, obviously they would be....there's chance we play them again in the 1st or 2nd round. Deeper rooted rivalry. 3. Suns, history between the 2 teams. Eliminated two straight years from the playoffs and have met them several times in years before. Then on top of that I think we challenge them for the team that will finally knock off the Spurs. 4. Spurs....probably, they might could be 3.
Bigger rivalry..... Lakers vs Clippers or Lakers vs. Celtics Bigger rivalry..... Heat vs. Magic or Heat vs. Knicks Bigger rivalry.....Lakers vs. Warriors or Lakers vs. Trailblazers Bigger rivalry....Cowboys vs. Oilers or Cowboys vs. Steelers Bigger rivalry....49ers vs. Raiders or 49ers vs. Giants Bigger rivalry.....Gators vs. Bulldogs (GA) or Gators vs. Hurricanes Bigger rivalry....Chargers vs. Raiders or Chargers vs. Chiefs or Broncos Bigger rivalry.....Yankees vs. Mets or Yankees vs. Red Soxs The last one is more of a push....but some of the best rivals in sports are more than likely out of the state. I'd say within state or not really doesn't matter.
I empathize with your diatribe to some extent, cause I live in San Marcos and I am inundated with the BS Spurs FSN programming. Spurs fans also are MOSTLY fair weather fans, and the vast majority I talk to are off season talkers who have little basketball know how. GeorgeGervin, I'm not saying you are or that all of them are, but similar to Mavs fans most boarded the ship within the last 10 years, and have little appreciation for the classic eras that preceded them. Not only appreciation for the Bulls/Celtics, but for the Rockets (and moreover: eras that held 3-6 championship caliber teams). It can be overwhelming to bathe in the Spurs downpour, especially around in the offseason, so I understand your frustration V3.0, not to beat a dead horse but I don't see the David Robinson critique having any merit. Admiral tooks an MVP trophy away from Dream, but I think Hakeem made his statement. By all accounts I've heard, he was a fantastic player and I've never seen him break his class. A great center who had the misfortune of having to play Hakeem. Having said that, I hate the Spurs more than the Mavericks because: 1) I think their rings are more of a product of a lack of another competing team than their sheer dominance. They seem to be caught in between eras. 2) Popovich and Ginobili are vastly overrated. The Spurs have been consistently good because of Tony and Tim, the idea of the big three is a farce. More like two stars with great bench play. Also, Pop in media sessions comes off like he thinks he's Parcells or something. Like it is a waste of his time to answer reasonable questions within his job description. 3) It could be argued that cross-checking Nash changed the entire playoffs 4) The reputation of classy, hard-working, pull-em-up-by-their-bootstraps, hustle derived play style is no more true of the Spurs than many other NBA teams (including Rockets). They get that reputation mostly because Tim Duncan uses the backboard and they are boring to watch.
The current Spurs are super annoying, and totally worth hating. Duncan, Manu, Parker, Bowen...all great players, all whiny bastards. But Robinson (while inferior to Dream in nearly all aspects of the game) was the nicest, classiest, and probably the most upstanding citizen that the NBA has ever had or will ever have again. And being a big man fan, I enjoyed watching him play. It's not his fault Dream got robbed. I still think the Mavs are more worthy of hate.
In all honesty I want to hate the rockets again. I am sure you will agree that it's no fun when one rival is heads above the other for a few years. This year i think I can hate the rockets again! I hated the rockets during the 90's because they won and we didn't. I just started hating the mavs because they have sucked for so long. I used to hate the lakers but don't now because they suck.. I live in Houston and most of my friends know that I am a spurs fan so this year I hope that I hate you guys again..In a friendly way of course..
Even though I bleed Rockets red, the Spurs are one of my favorite teams. The only knock I have against them is the fact that they are in the same division. With our new players maybe the Rockets-Spurs matchups will be like the Luv Ya Blue/Steel Curtain matchups(with the Rockets on top obviously).
Spurs used to be my most hated team, until everyone jumped on the Phoenix bandwagon and Dallas was handed a ticket to the 2nd round by the refs in 2005. Now they're my 3rd most hated team, although I wanted them to win the Finals cause I couldn't stand to see Cleveland walk thru such weak competition when the top 6 teams in the West would've easily made the finals in the East. But yea I hate him. Only difference is I have respect for the Spurs, a whole lot. I can't say nothing like that with the Mavs or Suns.
every year I go into the season saying the spurs are too old and the rox are ready to take the spur's place as best in TX and each year the rox get injuries or exposed for lack of depth and SA wins if odd year and loses if even year. I would like the rockets to stay healthy; all players, not just tmac and yao as we NEED the ALL players healthy. Go rockets. I dislike the spurs
So the real question is, what rivalries strike deepest for you: Rivals based on history: Spurs Jazz Mavs Suns Potential Rivals based on talent: Hornets Warriors Sonics Memphis Wolves (doubt it) Memphis **the talent tier, is entirely my OPINION on who will prove to be a tough matchup, or who IMO should break out this season. Could also be aruged that Seattle would have a historical rivalry because of their stellar teams in the 90s that we dismantled, but since they haven't been good since then, I can't take them too seriously. They could end up being successful (not this year). I can only hope for the resurrection of the Sonics/Rockets rivalry. But yeah, funk San Antonio. Only because of the deception of the "big three." We have a much of a big three as they do, because they have had brilliant basketball teams because of Tim and Tony exclusively. Their role players did their job, and that shouldn't be overlooked. They wouldn't have won without Barry, Bowen, or Oberto contributions. BUT Battier does everything Manu can, and also is a better defender. The Rockets seem to be set in the 2 superstar mold, and if we get the bench play we are all anticipating then we shouldn't have any problems with any matchups. The Idea that Manu brings some unknown-to-mankind defensive intensity and playmaking ability is prepostorous. Tony Parker is the next Kidd, SA Spurs fans should recognize that he is their messiah, not Manu. Also, can't post without mentioning that their 4 rings versus our 2, doesn't imply that they're dynasty was twice as effective as our previous ones. We had the 'fortune' to battle Bird, Magic in the 80s, and the Lakers/Bulls in the 90s. They're rings seem to come by default, as anybody from the Jazz to the Rox could have doubled Lebron and garnered that precious, precious ring.
