Nope he's been logging heavy minutes for the past couple of months and wouldn't be doing that if he was getting burned on defense. Don't let JVG's perception of his players spread to other players on different teams.

Why should that matter? I'm not arguing that kapano is a superstar or anything, so obviously he can't carry the team without shaq/wade playing a big part. You just threw out a wild accusation that he gets burned on defense, which is untrue. However, the heat have won 5 in a row with kapano averaging 17.6 points per game on 61% shooting overall, including kapano shooting 16/24 on 3s for 67%.

well you missed the correlation i was making, but thats fine.

everyone wants the token white boy shooter to play, but be realistic and be patient.

Head >>>>>>>>> Woman Jones, Jason Kaponobody, and Jason Fairy.

Including those three over Head was a slap in the face. BIGGEST SNUB OF ALL-STAR WEEKEND!

Yep. Should be Nash, Raja, or Ray Ray.

no offense b/c i love luther head, but his unorthodox shooting form would not make it for 25 shots in 60 seconds.. you need a spot up shooter whose feet don't land significantly in the three point line everytime they shoot.

Head is a great game shooter.. but in a competition of this sort, i don't think he would have a chance... kapono would seriously eat his lunch in this competition.

sorry to burst your bubbles, but this is coming from an impartial rockets' fan for THIS competition.

I LOVE THE ROCKETS.. just don't think head should be in the 3 point contest as everyone else contests.

I'd take Head over Terry anyday. I'd would've felt a lot better if it was Raja Bell or Nash instead. But Kapono is shooting lights out, leave him in there.

I have no problem with kapono being there, he deserves it. WHat I do have a problem with is damon Jones being there, he just plain sucks. Luther deserves his spot.

yeah i have a feeling head would run out of time with about 5 balls left. dude flies about 5 feet forward everytime he shoots. though it would be fun seeing him have to run back and reset after every shot....he is better than terry and damon jones though, just not as quick of a shooter.

don't hate on me, but i honestly believe Kobe could've won this if they had invited him. i don't remember him ever being invited into the 3-pt contest (maybe b/c, before, he was always seen as a flashy player), but he's such a great shooter - defended or undefended - that i honestly think he could dominate.

I may be wrong, but I thought the purpose of a shooting contest was to find out who the best shooter was. That's why I don't understand why Luther Head (113 3PM/.445 3P%) was not chosen for the Three-Point Shootout. He's been in the top 5 in 3s made for a long time, his percentage is excellent, and the only person better than him right now (similar # of made 3s, higher percentage) is Steve Nash, who incidentally was not in the shootout either, even before he was injured. What does a guy have to do to get respect around here? The one I really don't understand is Damon Jones (85 3PM/.387 3P%). If this is the NBA's idea of trying getting more players involved in All-Star Weekend, someone needs to tell them that it's called "All-Star" for a reason. You just don't arbitrarily choose any random guy who happens to shoot the 3. True, Luther's already in the Rookie-Sophomore Game, but he earned it just like he earned the right to be in the Three-Point Shootout. I hate it when the Rockets don't get the recognition they deserve. Maybe next year, Luther.

ACK! It was this thread that made me decide to "de-lurk" and join this forum. Kapono does deserve to be in the 3pt contest. In fact, he won it which should be evidence enough that he belonged in it not to mention his stats.

Someone mentioned the marketing angle previously. I think that's where guys like Damon Jones end up in the contest. He is the self-proclaimed best shooter in the NBA and likes to sport his bragadocious "Sniper" jacket. As a side note, I believe he is a product of the University of Houston.
