i, quite frankly, accepted the loss and moved on. The point of this thread is to basically glorify the sorryness that is Dirk Nowitzki. Would I like to trade our expiring contracts and any player other than Yao and Tmac? Hell yes I would. But that's the point: If Dallas offered Dirk for Yao, I wouldn't even bite. I'd only take him for spare parts. What I'm saying is that this Nowitzki guy is supposed to be THEIR franchise player and is supposed to carry his team for at least two games. He couldn't even do that much. No, the burden was carried by: An old veteran swingman that, until the playoffs, was thought to have nothing left in his gas tank. A scoring point guard who never even sniffed the playoffs the 4-5 seasons he's been in the league until this year. A tandem of guards that got drafted in the 2nd and one didn't even get drafted at all. Another old veteran swingman who was all but forgotten until he caught on fire and made people remember that he was once part of the three-headed monster in Dallas Heck, Dirk even called out a center that everyone knew could match up against Yao or Amare. Don't get me wrong: it's a team game and one player can't control the whole game. But a franchise-tagged player should be able to do more. Franchise players don't stand around and wait for things to happen. And franchise players shouldn't even be whining and publicly b*tching about his teammates, the same teammates that carried his pathetic ass into the 2nd round while he was clanking everything. What did he average in the playoffs? like 24 points per game on 40% shooting? People will keep on bringing up the fact that he performed oh so well in the previous playoffs and I will keep on bringing up the fact that he performed oh so well is because he fed off of Nash and Finley. And why is it pathetic to rip on him anyways? Did HE beat us? No. I remember Terry killing us in one game, Finley killing us in another and Howard basically put the dagger in in game 7. I hardly remember a game where Dirk took over. I'm not calling out the Mavericks team--I'm calling out Dirk. Don't be whining and complaining as if you're a franchise player when you're obviously not performing and leading like one.
Over-rated team with over-rated players...I'm so glad that Dallas lost...They suck and it showed...I've been living it up here in Dallas...
It's pathetic to rip on Dirk because if we could trade everyone except Yao and T-mac for him we'd do it in an instant and being jumping up and down with joy.
This is the dumbest argument I've ever heard. So, you can only point out that a superstar MVP-type player is playing bad when your entire team is better than him (and thus you wouldn't trade for him)?!?!? I know we all were ripping on Barkley in 94 and 95 for his lack of "production" in leading his team (and even then it wasn't as warranted as it is for Dirk because Barkley actually performed pretty well in those series).... but nobody would ever deny that they wouldn't want him next to Hakeem and Clyde. Same thing here. Is Dirk a good player worthy of anybody on the Rockets besides Yao and T-Mac??? yes. Is he worth being touted as the franchise player, a 1st team all NBA, and a top 3 MVP guy when he obviously came up far short in leading his team in the playoffs??.... hell no.
exactly. we wouldn't even think of putting in Tmac or even Yao for Dirk. That's how least valuable he is. Franchise players are players you would trade even your best player for (i.e. Francis) if it means you'll be paid handsomely down the road (i.e. McGrady). Am I comparing Francis to Dirk? Not directly but I'm also not saying that Francis is on Dirk's level. The point is, Dirk isn't even valuable enough to make me take notice if he's on the trading block. If San Antonio said "Ok, we'll trade you Duncan for Yao and other considerations" I'd have to sit long and hard and take it into consideration. If Cleveland said "Ok, we'll trade you LeBron for Tmac" you cannot tell me you wouldn't think about it. But if Dallas came to you and said "Ok we'll trade you Dirk in exchange for Yao or Tmac...your choice" you wouldn't even listen to them. Essentially, of course we'd trade our role players for him. But does that say more about our team or what his value REALLY is? Getting traded for role players when you're supposedly a young franchise player should raise some red flags.
Gee, a Rockets fan site and we rip on other certain players and teams....what an outrage... (hello?!? isn't that what these sites are all about?)
First - I would take Dirk + T-Mac + Yao and a bunch of scrubs over T-Mac + Yao and a bunch of scrubs. The point is that we'd love to have Dirk on our team...well I would. He's a super-star...playing with a bunch of guys who aren't. Yao has T-mac, T-mac has Yao. Shaq has Wade. Detroit...well that team is stacked with amazing player. Rip, Billups, Wallace x2....Duncun has Manu, Nash has Amare, Ray has Lewis, Jermaine had Reggie, who does Dirk have? Freakin Terry? Howard? Finely? C'mon - please! Secondly, Dirk is a great player who hasn't been nasty to the Rockets outside the spirit of competition. He may not have had a great series against Houston, but we paid a heavy price to shut him down, namely leaving guys like Terry and Howard to burn us. It's like saying a team that double-teamed Hakeem but still lost because of the 3-point shooting of Kenny Smith proves that Hakeem is not that great. I don't think ripping on a player for sticking out his tongue will suffice. Lastly - Dirk is awesome. I'm sorry, to ride Dirk when his team beat ours is just silly. I have been a Rockets fan for a very long time, but I'm not going to freakin be classless just because of it. Just because I root and cheer for the Rockets doesn't mean I have to support this kind of garbage dancing on the defeat of a team just because they knocked our team out of the playoffs. Should we rip on Ray Allen, Jermaine O'Neal, Jason Kidd, and every other star whose team gets knocked out? Should we rip on T-mac for a sub-par game 7? I guess we better not think about signing Swift or SAR because hey, they put up crappy numbers at times too. Ridiculous. It's one thing to rip on Dirk while we are playing against him...it's another to take pleasure in their defeat and be bitter about it way after it's over. If Dirk had said some nasty things about Houston or the Rockets, I could understand....but he hasn't man! Threads like this are a stain on an otherwise classy and top-notch site - they do nothing but foster silly and false attitudes. Just makes me sad to see it. Get over it, we lost. Reveling in our last opponents loss only makes you look like you have no class. It's sad. It smacks of a lack of self-respect. The worst insult to Dallas is to not even care what happens to them.
I'm sorry, since when was it ok to bash Yao every single day but it's taboo to call out another team's player? I saw worse comments made my supposed rockets' fans over the years about Yao then this. I can knock Dirk for his shortcomings just as freely as the next Rockets fan knocking Yao. I might be watching a different game because quite honestly I have never seen Allen, O'Neal, nor Kidd depend heavily on the "skill" of flopping to get by as a FRANCHISE player. You're totally off base when you think that I'm ripping Dirk just because he didn't perform as a franchise player should--I'm ripping him because of that AND the way he plays. The same reason why I hated Stockton and Malone and the same reason why I hate Dirk and start to dislike Ginobili a bit more right now--flopping. Sure the refs are the ones that are/aren't making the calls but that doesn't mean it's a good way to play. And I think you should check game 7 again. When our two players put up 60 points while TEN OTHER PLAYERS totaled 16, we'd be in a world of hurt and guess what? We were. Ridiculous. It's one thing to rip on Dirk while we are playing against him...it's another to take pleasure in their defeat and be bitter about it way after it's over. If Dirk had said some nasty things about Houston or the Rockets, I could understand....but he hasn't man! So what? It's illegal to hate your opponents' player now? What kind of fan are you? If we were to give the benefit of the doubt to every opponent we face, we might as well just call it quits and stop watching sports. You might think it's classless but why should we be classy towards a player that's not on our team and a player that basically b*tch and whine to get his calls and plays cheap? Threads like this are a stain on an otherwise classy and top-notch site - they do nothing but foster silly and false attitudes. Just makes me sad to see it. You know what? Clutch and co can (and probably will after this) lock this thread up. I respect their decisions. If they deem it to be going to far, then so be it. I'm not going to gripe over it. This thread started out as a celebration on how Dirk basically didn't do jack to help his team win but rather yell at the one player that was carrying them in game 6. Then it got into sort of a tangent on things. Clutch and co. can ban me if they see fit. I thought this thread was in line with similiar threads over the years that were about Malone, Stockton, Pippen, Gasol, etc. Those passed the litmus test. And I am not trying to convince anyone to believe in what I believe. We all have our own agendas and, at times, it's the same. What Rockets fan DIDN'T feel some kind of satisfaction when Nowitzki had a meltdown in the 4th and again in overtime in Game 6 against the Suns? Get over it, we lost. Reveling in our last opponents loss only makes you look like you have no class. It's sad. It smacks of a lack of self-respect. The worst insult to Dallas is to not even care what happens to them. Like I said before, I AM over the lost. I gave credit to Terry, Howard, Finley and co. I thought we had a chance to win the series, but upon retrospect, they DID have a deeper team, they DID have better shooters and they DID play better in game 7. Have I said "man...we should have won game 7!" or "man we all know the Rockets got robbed in game 7". And if I have no class, please teach me about it. Aside from the first post, I haven't cursed anyone out, I haven't sling mud at anyone. I argued my points and got done with it. Teach me about this all mighty class that you speak of. Treat me like the 15 year old you think I am. Teach me the ways of the world. Last time I checked, I haven't attacked Dirk verbally nor physically; I haven't threatened his family; I haven't used any racist remarks; I haven't even mention any gay innuendo he had with Nash. Point me in the right direction of class and self-respect. Last time I checked, all I did was bask in the glow of our team's opponent beating defeated.
Shouldn't you be directing your waaaahs to specific people instead of the board? First - Dirk is a flopper. I have no respect for that. Perhaps I should blame Nelson for it since that is one of his methods. Secondly - Dirk is great at pointing his finger to members of his own team, instead of making adjustments. Perhaps we can blame Avery some on this. Lastly - Dirk is not a Rocket, therefore he will get no support from me. Perhaps you need to get over it. This is all in fun.
