we gave steve 'bend it like beckham' francis 5 years to be a franchise player so why are we going to pull the plug on Yao after 3?

What I don't understand is this: People don't really need to look stupid - if only they learn just to shut their mouth. But they can hardly contain idiotic remarks, just like that girl who has to reveal herself. Keep your cloth on, you may have a chance to be called "hot".

    sigh...

I think it actually would be good for Yao once people write him off and say all he will be is Rik Smiths.

Yao doesn't handle the pressure well - too back he lacks confidence.

    WTF are you talking about?!

Hakeem had averaged 20.6 ppg, 12 rbs, 2.68blocks, 1.21 stls, and shooting 54% from the field; all this in his rookie year.

His 2nd year, 23.5 ppg, 12 rbs, 3.4 blks, 2 stl, shooting 53% from the field.

Oh, and by the way, Hakeem averaged 36 minutes a game, despite averaging over 4 fouls a game.

So check your stats before you make false statements.

Yang, I think you have every right to be disappointed with Yao's performance in the past 10 games. However, the problem lies not with Yao but with your expecations. The NBA and the media have hyped up Yao so much that everyone was expecting superman to 'change the game of basketball". In reality, Yao is a 7'5" uncoordinated chinese center who lacks the stamina and the 'me' attitude to really dominate the his opponents. So just sit back, lower your expectations, and be amazed that a 7'5" guy can run back and forth for 30 min and still have the touch of a 6' guard.
O BTW, Yao is already better than Rick Smitz, a better comparison would be Kareem at age 35.

quite to the contrary...you might get bashed by the hardcore Yao fans no matter what you say...but in this case..you are getting roundly bashed for starting a whole new thread without bringing any fresh insight to the situation.

These issues have been discussed and argued ad nauseum for weeks and months...frankly...I think some are tired of it.

What is even worse....your discussion (bashing if you will) is based almost solely on your own misconceptions about what Yao should do or wether or not some feel he should be better than Tmac.

I know your post is a joke, but both of these predictions are illegal. Not only do you have to be born in the States, but you also have to be 35.

Ya know.... when this was Steve's team or even 3 months ago this thread might have had some relevance. In the last three months ALL of the ghosts of the last six years are gone. No more RT or Steve or playground ball or questions about the organizations abilities to field a winner. No team in the league wants face the Rox in the first round. No one. We have a team that should be able to compete with anyone and Yao is on equal footing with Tmac in being the reason for that.

Having got that out of the way now to the Yao bashing. Yao is a keeper and will be a force in the league as long as he plays. Max player.....? It does not matter as long as Les and the NBA can get their share of souvenier sales to billions of Asians worldwide. Yao will continue to get better.

Stop already with the bashing. He is the first and best Yao. He is not Hakeem or Kareem or Shaq. He will be big piece on our championship(s) contender for the next ten years and that is more than enough.

Now go find something else to whine about!

I can't help but chime in....

As long as Yao is a presence inside on defence, commands a double team, and we continue to win, I could care less about his personal stats.

Yao does a great job of screwing with opposing players offensive schemes just being there. Likewise, I dare any team to not double team him (Other than the Heat). The rest is just details.

Yao can only get better and he has proven this in spurts. He is not Smits and will prove the arm chair coaches and gms on this board wrong. Yao and T-Mac will lead this franchise to multiple championships.:)
