the funny thing is that Theis doesn't even provide a defensive presence. ALP is a completely better defender and rebounder.
That information is not easy to track but I found something other that is interesting. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/11/01/sports/basketball/nba-black-coaches-diversity.html

Johnnie B. "Dusty" Baker Jr. is an American baseball manager and former outfielder who is the manager of Houston Astros in Major League Baseball (MLB).
Theis can't play with Sengun either. And his on/off numbers with Green are even more disastrous. It's not Wood that Theis is struggling to play with, its Tate. Both Wood and Tate led team in scoring during that 15 game losing streak. But the spacing and lack of 3ball threat with Theis and Tate on floor at same time affected efficiency of starters, especially the guards and even the shooters. Teams just sagged off TWO of our starters and fouled the paint or easily rotated to shooters around the arc.
I mean it's not a competition of who saw Theis wasn't the greatest fit. I questioned the signing even before he played his first Rockets game. People not like Theis has been the consensus opinion here. Which is great. My problem is the fact now everyone can see it and Silas still does it. Theis isn't the problem, its Silas.
Theis in Silas system is a DISASTER. Not because of Wood but because of Tate and guys like Nwaba who allow defenses to sag to shooters and ball handlers. Good role player just a really bad fit.
Trading Wood ENSURES that Theis will start at times as well as play heavy minutes in rotation. Sengun is foul prone.
Adams going out also kept Theis on the bench. But when Adams first went out, Theis was on floor for a while. And offense and defense still performed poorly. It was not until Theis went to bench permanently and Sengun played heavy minutes did Rockets mount comeback.
Theis hasn't played in 15 games, we are a respectable 7-8 in those games. We also won the 2 games in which he logged his fewest minutes. We are 1-19 in all the other games. He obviously isn't the only reason this team sucks...but his presence sure as hell isn't helping Green develop.
