Not a fan but I have to ask?

Why didn't the Boys go after Leftwitch. Are they really sold on Hutchinson?

We've made an investment in Hutch and he showed flashes of promise last year. Someone compared stats (yards/attempt, completion %) to him and Carr and they were similar, especially since both played behing very bad O-lines.

I think Hutch will be a fine pro, and we needed alot more help than 1 QB. Our CBs are really weak (Mario Edwards and Derek Ross) so we needed an upgrade.

But I will agree I think Leftwich will be a nice pro. He's not mobile enough to compare to Vick but he has great accuracy.

    FYI:

    Comp % YPA TD/INT Rating
    Carr 52.5% 5.84 9/15 62.8
    Hutch 50.8% 6.22 7/8 66.3

    Not bad!

    :)

BTW, Mel Kiper gave the Cowboys an A on ESPN News. I don't know if there is a report on them by him, but he said they had another solid draft this year.

I agree with Mel. We didn't get much at DL, RB, or Qb in the draft, I think I heard things about them getting those positions adressed elsewhere.

Dang, Mel's handing out the A's. For any curious Texan fans, he gave them an A-. (Not trying to say it in a bad way, just informing. Though you guys may already know what grade you got.)

Not really. I made a joke about them getting an undrafted fa to compete with Hutchinson for the starting position, but apparently that's the truth. Someone named Tony Romo.

    check this out:

"It was Parcells who sold me in the very end,'' said Romo, the 1997 All-Racine County Player of the Year. "He had some good stuff to say and he made me feel that I really had a great opportunity there.

"He said, 'Tony, I'm being honest with you. We had you pegged on our board as the only quarterback we were going to draft today. It worked out that we had so many needs that we couldn't get you when we thought we could have.

"And then he said, 'I'm going to be honest. We have a No. 3 guy, Clint Stoerner, who came in as a free agent four years ago as well and he's always going to be a No. 3. To be realistic, with a guy like that, you're not going to want to keep paying him the money to keep him around. You'll probably end up beating him out. That's what we're hoping.

"And then he said, 'We want you to compete for the No. 2 spot and we're hoping you can compete for that. And now I'm going to be real frank with you. You know my track record and we do not have a starting quarterback right now. And if you come in and play well and you perform and you're the best player, you have a great chance of starting for the Dallas Cowboys.

"And then he said, 'I'm going to let you run with the No. 1 group in the preseason. You will get your chance. And if you can perform, then it's on you. But you'll run with the No. 1s and you don't normally ever get that. You'll play in every preseason game and get the best opportunity because you're our top priority right now.''

Romo will get his first opportunity this Thursday when he participates in the Cowboys' first post-draft minicamp at Irving, Texas. He will also officially sign his free-agent contract when he arrives.

This marks the second straight year a former Racine County player made a name for himself in the NFL after being passed over in the draft. Former Park All-State tackle Kevin Barry signed as a free agent with the Green Bay Packers immediately after last year's draft and went on to start three games at right offensive tackle.

Barry also received several offers before signing with the Packers, but it's doubtful his phone rang as much as Romo's did last Sunday afternoon. Romo estimated he spoke with representatives from all but five NFL teams.
