the toshiba hd dvd players are excellent upconverters (even better than oppo as some might say). if you have that extra hd-dvd drive for the xbox, it won't upconvert unless you connect your xbox via hdmi or vga. i picked one up just to replace my samsung hdmi player. its night and day on the upconversion.
i already have the xbox add-on (it might be on ebay soon) i was in the market of getting rid of my samsung upconvert for awhile and looking to get either : really good upconvert or a combo bluray/good upconvert and i was looking for a decent price. yeah but as an upconverter that sammy is amazing...thats whats really just holding me back on getting a ps3 I dont know how well it upconverts compared to the samsung. I have like 35-40 odd blu-rays but like over 250 dvds so upconversion quality is a huge concern for me. I have the addon to my 360 elite which upconverts but not on the same level as the sammy did. damn sammy if only you didnt have those other issues I would have loved you as the player. i watched con air 2 nights ago and i put the disc in and it was loading and nothing came up and open and closed the tray and the menu came up right away...it works but its a bit of annoyance at least with that blu-ray whats the score of the ps3 upconverting on that website? thanks in advance tinman
i don't have the dvd score for the PS3, but on the AVSforum, they have had some good reviews. I take it would be pretty decent. There are rumors of a bluray add-on to the xbox360. Also, if you check out SonyStyle.com they occasionally have bluray refurbs.
yeah my roommate works for sony pictures in their blu-ray sales dept so i get good hook ups on their products i am just going with the ps3 since that will be the one player that will be for sure supported in the future with any updates since 70% or so of the blu-ray player base are ps3s. but back to the HD-DVD thread anyone know if heroes season 1 has been marked for really cheap anywhere yet? I havent picked that one up yet
oh my bad. i thought you meant $5.....or $50 if it comes with movies. I just picked another one up from costco today....i figured i might as well since there are still some good titles out there that i dont have (american gangster and there will be blood will be released too)
Upconverting? I bought a 5 disc dvd player that upconverts last year for about $110. A Sony at that. I'll save for a PS3.

I picked up a HD DVD player from costco for $80 last weekend...figured that it'd make a good DVD upconverter. It's time for me to collect some cheap HD DVDs!
