I like her by the way. I remember her on Boston Public. She was also in a few skits of Chappelle's Show, most memorably the Love Contract, where a woman has to sign a contract before having sex to have proof it was consensual. Her name is Rashida Jones btw, and her dad is Quincy Jones.

 

She's pretty hot.

Overall, just an okay episode IMO. But episodes of the office are like sex. Even the bad ones are still great.

Since the thread got bumped, I may as well share my thoughts. Here we go with another low-key episode. The humor never reached critical mass, but it still had it's moments. My favorite part was probably the "pretzel" subplot. If you've spent any time in an office setting, you'll recognize right away the freakishly possessive hold that free food has over people. Those scenes were spot on. Other moments that I liked:

- Mose, Dwight's cousin, running through the barn like a "scary" fratboy.

- Ryan's saying that Michael's biggest fear was loneliness or women, was perceptive and sad and funny all mixed into one.

- I don't know why, but that coffin line killed me.

- The Kelly and Angela scene. They rarely get a chance to have a scene together, and I kind of liked it.

- Lovefool.

- "This is not a proportionate response"

- Everything that Andy (Jim's male co-worker for those that didn't know his name) does.

- 10:00 Cosby Impression. 12:00 Waited in line for a Pretzel

- Michael's sugar rush and crash.

- Michael showing off his savant-like sales skills again. It's always cool to see Rain Man (The Dustin Hoffman version, not the Shawn Kemp one) doing his thang.

- The Jim/Pam conversation was well done. I haven't seen any promos (and I know NBC spoils the heck out of that kind of stuff), so that was quite a surprise. And those two have such an easy rapport with each other. I like them as a couple more than Tim and Dawn, even if it's hard to match the emotional wallop of their British counterparts.

The episode wasn't perfect, (some of the Ryan/Dwight scenes were way underwhelming, and like I said there wasn't any particularly hilarious peaks), but it's still a great show. It's just that they're trying to go down some different avenues, and set up some different situations than in the past (i.e. the whole Jim in Stamford thing, and trying to explore some other relationships Ryan/Dwight, Michael/Pam etc).

It's hard to say how this season will turn out, and whether all this shuffling about will be worth the effort, but I respect the writers for trying something bold by shaking things up. Here's hoping that they do come through and set up something special during the course of the year. That would be pretty impressive.

Did anyone catch that Ryan (B.J. Novak) was the supervising producer and that he was the writer???

 

Dwight to intern- "What is the Dharma Initiative?"

 

ryan (b.j. novak) got his start on punked on mtv. ever see the one where they punked usher it was pretty funny.

 

Yeah, a number of the actors on the show are also on the writing staff. Mindy Kaling who plays Kelly is a writer, as is Paul Lieberstein who plays Toby. Mike Schur who plays Dwight's cousin Mose is also a writer. And while Steve Carell isn't a regular writer on the show, he did write "Casino Night", the season finale from last year.

It's a pretty talented bunch.

 

I thought the Dwight-Ryan scenes were inspired. I laughed at all of them, but I think near the end I laughed hardest at this exchange:

Dwight: Just think, that temp agency could have sent you anywhere.
Ryan: I think about that all the time.

 

I'm still going to stick to my guns. I'm not a big fan of the Jim/Pam (or JAM as the chicks like to call it) storyline. Why do they have to bog down the comedy with this sappiness? Well, other than they need female viewers, of course.

Was it just me or did Jan look really hot this episode?

 

Its a balance... most any other sitcom out there that had a "cliff-hanger" like last year, would have likely spent the first 5 episodes on nothing but that (esp. the season premier). With this show, at least they decide not to touch it for awhile... and then u only get a bit part that really was about a good conversation, instead of pure sappiness (I've cracked up at other people who rented "28 days", and waited for Sandra Bullock to show up as well).

The new office is getting funnier and funnier each week... Lovefool had me on the floor. "Whatever happened to those guys?"

The egg-throwing scene was also priceless... once Dwight realized that Ryan had snapped, and was acting crazy, he LOVED it... "oooh... the TEMP!.... YEA!."

The savant angle is great to see... we all know Michael is capable of something, otherwise he would have never been made manager in the first place. Additionally, Dwight is the leading salesman... but he's a "freak." In the end, however, they both get the job done better than anybody at that company... despite their shortcomings.

Just a great cast/ensemble... I'm glad they finally found their audience (and I mourn Arrested Development, as they would have trumped all shows had they been on a real network... similiar humor, same jokes, more payoff).

 

That one of the things I really like about this show. You never wonder, how the hell do these guys keep their jobs.
