I didn't catch that at all on the first viewing. Love Michael's malaprops. Seems like another love it or hate it episode for people. Well I loved it. This ep was just pitch perfect for so much of the cast; Dwight "Wedding Bouncer", Scrantonicity, Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration, Kelly and Ryan, Toby, Dwangela, Karen (looking very cute on stage, singing), and Stanley and Creed in their short moments. The Jim/Pam stuff doesn't faze me because I've seen these "will they, won't they" storylines before, and they're not anything to get really worked up over, and I can take almost any amount of Michael craziness because I've seen David Brent and Michael Scott do some horrific things in the past already, so what's a little more on top.
Is Michael really an idiot? Or, does he just get off on acting like an idiot? I only started watching this season and I'm just not sure if he is a doofus on purpose or this is supposed to be the real him? That part during the wedding where he blurted out "Ladies and Gentlemen....I give you Mr. and Mrs...." before they even completed the vows...was that just him being a jackass on purpose?
No he's really an idiot. He's got no filter or awareness, he's not that smart, and his social skills are incredibly r****ded. I'm guessing that he's got a horrifically overbearing mother, and never had a friend growing up. As for him blurting that announcement out, he probably just spaced out for a second and lost his place. I mean he's not really the type to do anything on purpose. If nothing else, he's a pretty genuine guy, and in this case he was being a genuine jackass.
Yes, he's an idiot, and that's the premise of the show along with the JAM romance. A boss who thinks he's funny, but he's not, is what makes his character so funny. Nothing beats Michael telling a terrible joke that causes uncomfortable silences.
My wife is concerned that the Jim Pam romance is going to fizzle the whole show, that it can not last, and the show is too dependent on it to survive. I disagree, and I would like to publically state that Kelly / Ryan are totally hilarious and should be promoted in the show. There are some deleted scenes on NBC's website for the Xmas show that are so nice. Searching for gifts in the dumpster and so forth. I love them. Thank you for listening.
If he was just trying to be funny, I wouldn't have a problem with it. It's the cockiness and the arrogance that kills me. The best part of last night was Ryan knocking the bouquet away from Kelly.
The best Ryan/Kelly moment imo is from the producer's cut of Branch Closing. Right after Kelly hugs Ryan from behind and says that she's so happy that they'll still be together, Ryan has a talking head where he very quietly and seriously shakes his head in a bemused manner and says, "I don't know. I can't explain it." which I took to mean that he does like her, but can't really explain why.
Nah, I understood what you meant. It can be a bit much. Even though most attention starved person in the world isnt going to disrupt a wedding ceremony on more than one occasion.
Yeah, that's my point. There's always been a believability to his character. The last two weeks there just hasn't been at all. I can't imagine anyone, no matter how dumb or attention starved they are would talk trash about an old man in a wheelchair.
Maybe you don't know enough people? It's crazy what self-absorbed people can do when they feel they're being 'shown up'.
I agree. I still love the show. I could get by with the pranks on Dwight alone. The Pavlov's Dog thing was classic. Michael was way too much, though, for the second week in a row. I hope they tone it down a bit.
So you're saying I should consider myself lucky? Also, there's no way that anyone would want to be seen with this guy outside of the workplace. Absolutely no way he'd be in the wedding.
Seriously? Then why are they always talking into the camera? IMO, it's not nearly as good when they make Michael as obnoxious as he was in yesterday's episode. It's better writing to make him straddle the line between obnoxious boss that no one would want to be seen with to pathetic figure that people feel sorry for.
But I thought he had been surprisingly redeemable lately - hooking with jan, being a good salesman, etc. I thought he was a little too mellow...
