I couldn't watch it even though it was fictional. It's the equivalent of psychologically clubbing baby seals. Man... that's just cold on Micheal's part. They even had "Scott's Tots" t-shirts! I loved the Dwight/Jim thing. Jim's become the opposite of what he was at the beginning of the show, and Dwight is now the anti-hero. Love it.
ep as a whole sucked.. all because of the michael thing. Just too much for me to watch. The kids wearing the shirts and having the song and everything was a great touch. But still painful and sucky to watch...not a fan. Jim/Dwight thing, also annoying. Catering to the same viewer who would like the Michael scenes I would think. I do like that Dwight got the better of Jim, but I don't like how it happened. Dwight's impressions were awesome, though..
dwights impressions were great.....other than that, just another season 6 mediocre episode parks and rec was gold again....
I thought it was above average myself but your right about Parks and Rec. The stripclub was just hilarious esp. Swanson!
i didnt like the hunting one too much Ron and Tom make that show. More Ron and Tom is a good thing. the office needs to go back to classic writing....more andy bernard. even more ryan....there's too much michael, jim, and pam.
There was a time when The Simpsons was all about Bart, but it eventually become more about other characters, and in particular, Homer. It's what allowed the series to survive, in my opinion. I think the same needs to happen with Michael Scott. We need to see a shift to more Andy, Ryan, Dwight, and even Toby if this show is going to produce many more quality episodes.
as far as uncomfortable-ness goes, this one is average compared to the british ones. david (brit michael) is 10x's worse at creating those situations.
David Brent from the British Office show had his moments, but Michael Scott has the moments that make you cringe and want to put a needle in your eye socket.
Um no. On average the typical UK Office episode is a lot more cringe-inducing than the American Office, but David Brent never did anything that had the kind of consequences that this episode did. Brent's usual M.O. was that he would say something offensive to someone and would have to weasel his way out of it, but Michael basically betrayed 15 kids with his lies. I dare say that even Michael at Phyllis's Wedding might have surpassed anything that David Brent did, due to the fact that Brent would usually make a fool of himself at random meetings or around the office, while Michael acted like a jackass at an important function in front of a few hundred people.
i get your point - david never screwed over that many people w/ one lie, but to me the uncomfortableness generated was about equal to an average episode of the brit version. the american version doesnt make me as squirmy as often. imo, david overall was a much more offensive person than michael could ever be. i think michael is more naive/childish - in the end, there is a peter pan/michael jackson like innocence to him - he almost seems to have the mentality of an 11 year old boy. he's a jackass, but his heart is usually in the right place and he does have a conscience - the same cant be said for david. also, there were only like 12 episodes of the brit version - michael has has at least 5 x's as many showcases for his jack-assery.
Yeah, like I said, in terms of squirm inducing awkwardness: Average British Office ep > Average American Office ep. But I definitely think there have been individual episodes where the American Office has surpassed the original. I personally would prefer if the show wouldn't try to match the original in awkward situations. I understand that the show wants to keep it's "cred" and not strip away the original "genius" of the British version, thereby becoming yet another bland, watered down American adaptation. But honestly, I think the show should focus on it's strengths (the interactions of a deep cast of finely drawn idiosyncratic characters) instead of trying to recreate the magic, so to speak. This is part of the reason why I've enjoyed Parks and Recreation so much this year. Parks isn't a spin-off to the Office, even if there are stylistic similarities, so they are free to pursue it's own voice and style. And once P&R realized that they had to distance themselves from the Office, and decided to transform Leslie out of being a female Michael Scott, the show started to find it's footing.
Finally got around to seeing this last night. The whole Dwight/Jim plot fell apart for me because why would Jim's name be on the list of employees if he wasn't in the contest in the first place? And how did they raise $1000 getting just $20 per employee? I loved the laptop battery twist because I was fully expecting Michael to come through with a laptop. They set that up perfectly.
