The super-bowl episode was great, one of the best col-opening and best episodes ever. And I think it was the 2nd half of season 5 that began to tail off more. However, I thought the pilot was the best episode of the season
Well that depends, does the other show have vampires? Wait what am I talking about, its the CW of course it has vampires. Wel if it was The Office WITH Vampires, then we would have a show on our hand that I would rather watch than The Office.
The Office is a dying show that still has some life in it. It's still good enough to watch, especially if you've seen all the episodes from the beginning. We're all rooting for it to regain the old spark but without some major turn in direction, that won't happen. We'll just have to be satisfied with liking every 2 or 3 episodes instead of being supremely entertained each week. My suggestion to some people here is dial down your expectations or you'll be consistently disappointed. All shows run their course.
Are you really wondering this? How many times have you read things like "Trade Yao" or "Luis Scola is absolutely horrible" after just one bad game? There were people talking about how many episodes in Season 2 were not funny back in the day- no kidding. Most of these individuals' comments are not going to matter much- their opinions, including mine, have absolutely no effect in the long run whether one of us likes or dislikes the show.
It's interesting how even though comedy is one of the most subjective opinions someone can have, people are still so adamant that their opinion is right. FWIW, I did not care for this episode (although Dwight trying to raise a revolt against Jim was great). A lot of the characters' decision making really seemed to defy all logic (why didn't they just give everybody a small raise, I thought Pam would be too smart to fall for Ryan's scheme). But I think this season and this show in general is still very funny. The first two eps were solid, with last week's episode being excellent. And I thought last year was actually a return to form. A ton of strong eps (the premiere, post-superbowl, customer survey, lecture circuit 1 etc.) which culminated in one of the best extended arcs the show has ever done (the Michael Scott Paper Company arc). Just my opinion. Not trying to change anybody's mind.
I hope this was some sort of growing episode for Jim. I dont think the writers are trying to have him play foil/straight man to Michael, but its unavoidable if Jim remains a co-manager. Minus a few Michael quibs, their scenes were void of humor. I realized at the scene where they're placing beans that I had been sort of scowling. I'm praying that this wedding episode be even half as good as Phyllis's. I just looked it up, and damn that was season 3. "You look as beautiful as the queen of england." That was good stuff.
Speaking of "the subjectiveness of comedy" Phyllis's Wedding is easily one of the most polarizing episodes in Office history. I remember reading the fan blogs/forums at the time and there was a very large segment of the fanbase that did not like the episode at all due to the fact that Michael's behavior was so ridiculously, over-the-top cringeworthy. I agreed that it was too cringeworthy but once you looked past Michael's antics it was actually a very good episode with great moments for many characters.
I agree, his behavior was on a whole different level that episode. Him banging the wheelchair down the aisle and the "ladies and gentlemen for the first time..." burst in the middle of the vows was totally ridiculous. And the part where he smears cake on himself. Wow. I was bursting with laughter, but only because I had gotten to the point where I can readily laugh at those cringe worthy parts. I had already watched all the UK stuff and David Brent every episode pulls something like that off. I'd just sit there and it's like watching a trainwreck happen. So I'd be on the side that would say Michael was a positive that episode.
forgive me father for i have sinned....... most fridays i wake up a little early to catch the office on hulu, but not today, i watched parks and recreation instead
I agree with you man. Last nite's episode wasn't the best but it did have a few good nuggets in there.
it doesnt help that every episode of season 1-3 were all classics....that being said, that episode sucked. the downfall started when jim got with pam... i have a feeling next weeks episode will be the worst episode ever. boring, unfunny...mainly for the women
I didn't care too much for last nights show, but I think the whole purpose was to show that Micheal actually does a good job of controlling the office in his own goofy way. I've found it strange that they haven't show Pam doing anything since she go her her position. I guess she just stepped into sales and is doing well without any problems whatsoever?
I purposely didn't check this thread until I watched the episode this morning, so as to avoid any subconscious bias one way or the other... What a terrible episode. One of the worst cold opens ever in my opinion, which got the show off on the wrong foot. The rest was just...unfunny. Hopefully it bounces back next week in a big way.
Get yer warm and fuzzies ready, this will be too too sweet. If only there would be a Roy re-appearence to spoil the moment!
