30 Rock is sometimes more immediately funny, The Office sometimes takes more than one viewing to catch everything. Although I really like 30 Rock, The Office will hold up better over time. It's a very unique mix of bizarre comedy and pathos. But definitely an acquired taste and I completely understand how many can dislike or even hate it. Except for redefined. His view on it is completely moronic.
I dunno why...but I can't bring myself to even watch a single episode of "30 Rock". Is it really as good as all those awards it keeps winning? Or, is it overhyped?
I thought the same thing for a while, but finally bit the bullet when it won the Emmy. It's now one of my favorites shows and gives me more "laugh out out" moments than The Office, even though I prefer the latter and it's layers of plot and subtle humor.
Holly's "boyfriend" is the guy from Human Giant. I don't know his name, but that seemed like an awfully small part for him. I'm wondering if we will see him again? Anyone catch the promo for the new show "Parks and Recreation" near the end of the show? That featured another Human Giant guy and Amy Phoeler and Rashida Jones.
I'm starting to think that starting with last nights episode, the show has "jumped the shark". The storyline with Angela with her new cat and cat cam was just so out of place and corny. It's like they're trying too hard.
Michael's scenes were way too awkward for me to handle. 30 Rock was better - The donut in the microwave comment got me. Every show has it's ups and downs - this one was a down for me.
While I agree that last night's was subpar, I don't think you can say a show has jumped the shark based on one down episode. The last two or three episodes before this one (the duel, the Super Bowl one, etc) were up there with the best episodes of the entire series, IMO. I think this show will be just fine.
Last nites episode was ok not great, was kind of let down we didn't get to see Holly. Wasn't as good as the last couple of episodes and the Dwight Jim Party planning seemed to drag, it had it's moments but didn't hit the mark the entire time.
Holly's new boyfriend at Nashua is Rob Huebel from Human Giant. Surprised he didn't have any actual REAL part, he's a really funny guy. Maybe he ties into the further storyline going forward? Last night episode was yet another WEAK episode. I hate how this season they're going from funny-romantic to sappy-romantic. Dwight-Angela-Andy = Funny Jim-Pam-Karen = Funny and minimum sap. Jan-Michael = Funny and minimum sap. Michael-Holly = Funny and minimum sap. This season however: Jim-Pam = NOTHING BUT SAP, and her parents angle? What the hell? Michael = Emotional about every damn thing. Not funny. The recent breakdowns over Holly are a little unrealistic, he seems like literally a teenager in love for the first time. This is a much different Michael then the one who had 2 dates way back in the Casino episode. I don't really care how attached to Holly he got or how "true" the love was. It's boring and not funny. Save it for a different show. I hope they turn up the heat honestly, because I started watching 30 rock last night and I'm gonna start catchin up on that and watching it more so. I REALLY hope they can bring this season back to its early levels of hilarity and eventually season 2 comedic levels. PS: The other guy from Human Giant is Aziz Ansari, he's also gonna be in a new Will Ferrell movie and a mainstay cast member on the Parks and Recreation show. Big year for him, he has a bunch of projects in the works. Glad to see the Human Giant team blow up and gain recognition, they deserved it.
I think a big mistake was ending the Holly/Michael relationship too soon. They did that why? To bring Toby back? He's been minimal if non-existent since his return. Last night's episode felt like a letdown. Probably one of the worst second acts to a cliffhanger episode I can ever remember, from any show. It wasn't terrible, but it could have been so much more. And I thought it was weird they made it seem like they were going to skip the rest of the meetings and go see Holly, when in fact Holly was working at another branch that they were visiting anyways. Honestly, I thought the Holly/Michael relationship was setting up for a big showdown with Jan. That could have been pretty epic, but oh well.
This episode was a complete drag. It could have easily been the worst one yet. It seems like it was written in 20 minutes. Jim and Dwight as the party planners has to go. Micheal was not the least bit funny or interesting. Angelas cats were a drag. Maybe next week will be better.
It's from awhile ago, but I think I read that Aziz was hired for the cast of an Office spin-off. I don't know if that's still in the works or not. I think the funniest moments are in the off the wall scenarios. The 'dramatic' moments - Michael being overemotional, Pam's parents fighting, Meredith's alcoholism, etc - just come off awkward rather than awkwardly funny.
The producers of the Office decided not to do a direct spinoff of the Office and instead created Parks and Recreation. I believe Aziz is going to be on that.
without dwight, the office would have failed years ago. michael's character...mr. over-the-top doesn't make sense 98% of the time takes nothing seriously acts like a child isn't really acting free ride shouldn't have a job living in a trash dumpster routine...is not what keeps this show going. sometimes it's stupid funny with michael...but it's mostly bleh. enuff said.
Parks And Recreation http://www.nbc.com/Primetime/parks-and-recreation/ "Parks and Recreation" -- from Emmy Award-winning executive producers Greg Daniels (NBC's "The Office," "King of the Hill") and Michael Schur ("The Office, "Saturday Night Live") -- is a new mockumentary that looks at the exciting world of local government. The documentary cameras follow Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler, NBC's "Saturday Night Live," "Baby Mama"), a mid-level bureaucrat in the Parks and Recreation Department of Pawnee, Indiana. In an attempt to beautify her town -- and advance her career -- Leslie takes on what should be a fairly simple project: help local nurse Ann Logan (Rashida Jones, "The Office") take on defensive bureaucrats, selfish neighbors, real estate developers, and single-issue fanatics -- whose weapons are lawsuits, the jumble of city codes, and the very democratic process that Leslie loves so much. Aziz Ansari and Aubrey Plaza also star. <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://widgets.nbc.com/o/4727a250e66f9723/4996e092e387d99a/499274f86995067f/7f2bb4ab/-cpid/589a8549b2bf5a31" id="W4727a250e66f97234996e092e387d99a" width="384" height="283"><param name="movie" value="http://widgets.nbc.com/o/4727a250e66f9723/4996e092e387d99a/499274f86995067f/7f2bb4ab/-cpid/589a8549b2bf5a31" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="allowNetworking" value="all" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /></object> <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://widgets.nbc.com/o/4727a250e66f9723/4996dddd19ad97a6/4741e3c5156499a7/b550029f/-cpid/a0c2b609df1576c6" id="W4727a250e66f97234996dddd19ad97a6" width="384" height="283"><param name="movie" value="http://widgets.nbc.com/o/4727a250e66f9723/4996dddd19ad97a6/4741e3c5156499a7/b550029f/-cpid/a0c2b609df1576c6" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="allowNetworking" value="all" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /></object>
