I was the 1st red rowdy ever selected if you must know. Secondly, I think you said a mouthful in your last post about Battiers short comings this year so far. No need to say any more. You dont need to give me another 4k posts. IMO, the guy is either under-utalized, or off to a poor start.
Battier's coaching career is not too far away: he will be one of the best young coaches in the league. Likely he will start as an assistant and then work his way up to a head coaching position, maybe for the Rockets! (2015)
Battier is a great, but just not with this current squad. Battier for Lamar Odom I'd do ANYDAY. The evidence is set in stone: Battier despite our thinness at the wing spots is barely getting 30 minutes a game...
i would keep battier over odom even though odom is only 30 battier is a championship caliber role player while odom is just a solid good role player
This isn't any kind of attempt to counter your post, but i don't see why some fans keep stating he's on his way to the bench or a reduced role, like there's some kind of trend, yet there isn't. His average mpg is about 33 this season, about a minute less than last year and only 3 less than the year before. He just played 41 mins this past game and 32 the previous one. I don't see enough evidence to show the staff is thinking that way at all. It may happen, but as of now there's nothing to imply that. The games he's had limited minutes were due to foul trouble or chase playing great, so yes, i guess it's possible chase could steal his minutes, but is it realistic that he'll do it consistently? I doubt it, he's still a rookie, and therefore will keep having highs and lows rest of the year. That's another reason why i dont there being plans to trade shane this year. Makes a lot more sense for him to stay this year as a veteran presence, let him pass any knowledge he has to chase and ariza, and then next year shop him around as an expiring.. and/or talk to him as early as this summer to see where his mind is at, maybe he'd be willing to re-sign here at a reduced price at the end of his deal, which would be helpful because bud will need this year and next to work out any kinks in his game, as well as ariza, so they may not be consistently efficient enough to take over the spot.
If Tracy comes back healthy, I rather have Battier next to him than Ariza. I know they will probably start Ariza. I just think Tracy wont adapt to the offense. He is going to be the ball stopper he is. Ariza is trying to become what Tracy was so having both their at same time pointless. Battier might be on the decline but i still like his D over Ariza. Shooting open threes, i would say they are close or the same.
I'll be surprised if Shane isn't an assistant coach, hopefully for the Rockets. One of his "non-stat" values to the team is as a coach on the floor. Very hard to quantify, but I don't doubt its value, especially with such a young team.
Kobe had a bad game the day before against Denver. Afflalo and Ariza are either the best Kobe stoppers in the league or Kobe had a pulled groin. Hmmm, let me guess as to which is true....
can't wait to see his teams run the patented corner offense. seriously, I don't think Battier loves the game enough to be a coach. He's driven more by a desire for success in general and true professionalism than a love of basketball like some players, hence the lack of interest in playing on offense. he'll be an elected official before he sets up shop as a coach.
I don't think Shane is as rigid as JVG. JVG wanted more offense from his players, but sometimes he just got "stuck" on something that wasn't working. The thing I may never forgive JVG for is bringing all those burned out Knicks.
As rwienert mentions below, Shane may choose a political career, but I am with you that he would make an excellent coach if that is what he decides. He is very intelligent, is a floor general now, a leader, and motivator of the other players.
LOL at " the patented corner offense." I disagree about Shane and coaching, though, and I don't think his offense on the court should be assumed to reflect how he would coach, or his possible success if he does. Some of the best coaches ever to grace the sidelines in the NBA were decidedly average players when actually in the league. Skill on the court and skill at coaching, just as in other sports, like baseball, don't always jive. If Battier wants a career as an NBA coach, I think he will get a good chance at it and will succeed if he does. edit: just saw your solid post, solid. We agree! (another edit... does anyone else think the "grin" thingy looks awful, looks stupid, and should be replaced with something a bit less, how shall I put it, garish? I hate the thing and rarely use it, but would use it a lot if it didn't look so freakin' stupid)
Now that you mention it I believe he may have spoken about his political aspirations. Not sure, but he couldn't do worse than most of those in Congress now. This may be one of the dumbest most corrupt bunches the nation has ever had. As a political independent, I wasn't thrilled with Bush and his buddies, but I am ready to throw these rascals out as well. They may be worse. We will keep turning them over until somebody starts listening: STOP SPENDING! (sorry, a little rant, there; ignore if necessary)
i think he said he's not interested in politics as a career, at least i think that's what he said when the story broke out that he got a text from Obama via Reggie Love. The reporter asked him about politics, and he pretty much said no thanks.
