2002 World Basketall Championship series at Indiana, from Aug. 29 to Sept. 8, 2002.

NBC, ESPN2 And TNT will televise all US games, including a US-China match on Saturday, Aug. 31 (8 p.m.). This game will be Yao Ming's first game in the US land, and is highly anticipated by we Yao Ming fans.

Yes! I can't wait. Things are getting goofy around here. Hell, I'm carrying on about goat trails in San Antonio in NBA Dish. I wanna watch Ming! (I hope the guy can get some rest sometime, what a contradiction. ;))

I might have to go see him in person. Anybody else thinking about going?

I like Yao Ming and all, but that day he will be playing for China. I will cheer against him for that one game.

cheer against him, but the question is 'how', if you really like him as you said. Yao the bust! Dump on his ass, Wallace! Or you have your own? Please speak out!

I hope Yao and China beats the **** out of the USA. They deserve it for not including a Rocket on the team.

It won't happen, but I'll be rooting for China.

Watch out for Yugoslavia. They've got a lot of good players: Vlade, Peja, zeljeko rebraca, radmonovic, marco jaric, and a couple of other NBA players. And they have that Milicic guy who is supposed to go #1 in 2004. They could give the USA a game.

These are the fontline players on team USA:

    J. O'neal, Lafrenz, Brand, B. Wallace

Not exactly what you would call dominant, but still a pretty good group.

It will be interesting to see how Ming does against them. If he could hold his own against this group, he would do fine in the NBA.

Germany is in that group as well and Shawn Bradley will play for them. Hopefully the Bradley comparison will be gone forever after that game.

Cant wait to see Ming play against the US. I'll be rooting for the USA team, but I'll also be rooting for Ming at the same time hoping he has a great game. After all, Ming is a Rocket, and there are no Rockets on the USA team! :p

    Here's the complete US roster:

    Ray Allen (Milwaukee Bucks)
    Elton Brand (Los Angeles Clippers)
    Antonio Davis (Toronto Raptors)
    Michael Finley (Dallas Mavericks)
    Jason Kidd (New Jersey Nets)
    Raef LaFrentz (Dallas Mavericks)
    Shawn Marion (Phoenix Suns)
    Andre Miller (Cleveland Cavaliers)
    Reggie Miller (Indiana Pacers)
    Jermain O'Neal (Indiana Pacers)
    Paul Pierce (Boston Celtics)
    Ben Wallace (Detroit Pistons)

    Collegiate Alternate:
    Nick Collison (University of Kansas)
    Jason Williams (Duke University)

    Two observations:

#1 - These players are mostly from Eastern teams, and

#2 - Because of #1, the squad is slanted more towards elite guards than elite forwards/centers. In fact, with all due respect to Elton Brand, J. O'Neal, etc., this is probably one of the more backcourt-oriented Team USA rosters in recent years.

Still, I don't see this team being seriously threatened in this event, especially with home-country status (and home-court for R. Miller and O'Neal).

Look for some serious bombs being dropped by R. Miller, Allen, and Finley, with enough rebounding and post scoring muscle from Brand, O'Neal, and Wallace to get the job done. Not to mention possibly the best point guard rotation, in Kidd-A. Miller-Williams, on a Team USA since Magic-Stockton back in '92.

I would think injuries would have been a factor

that and you would want pass first pg's with that kind of talent on the floor

I still can't believe some of you say Francis is a selfish player. If anything he should be jacking up more shots with his kind of scoring ability. But I guess when you have all of those scoring options to go to it makes it harder to hold on to the ball.
Surround Steve with more reliable shooters, and I promise you that his assists will go through the roof.
    Go Francis!! :)

I am anxious to see Ming perform against NBA elite players. I want to see what he can do at this stage.

I bet we will see the US be very hard on him, as a welcome to the NBA.

I hope he steps up and takes the challenge head on.
