There was some dude that kept calling himself slumdog millionaire on here. I think he had a shoutout to his classmates in his signature. what ever happen to that cat. i love bollywood films and indian films. the plot is the lady dances behind a tree and sing songs.
While that was definitely the case a few years ago, Indian movies are definitely changing. Of course many still rely on the boy meets girl-there is a problem-lets sing and dance in the garden plot. Many however, now are exploring different themes.
Agreed. Ghajini was terrible. esp in hindi. The tamil version was so much better IMO. I am yet to watch 3 idiots though .. I heard its over-hyped and not so good.. since it has now become a thread in clutchfans, I think I will go to the theater and watch it.. and btw.. I am surprised to see so many Indians here.. But are there Indians who are currently in India and following the rockets via clutchfans? I hope I am the only one.. I want to dominate
No Andaz Apna Apna?!? Come on ... that movie is an absolute classic, save the terrible acting by Karishma. Another one of my favorites is Akele Hum, Akele Tum ... I think it's based on Kramer vs. Kramer. Both AK and Manisha K. did a great job in that one.
Indian blu rays do not exist. At least easily accessible ones. saw the movie, I've never laughed so hard in an indian movie as I did during the speech scene, I think tears were coming out of my eyes. The movie wasnt earth shattering, but it was fun and entertaining. I could have lived without the baby scene. If you don't speak the language, don't bother. Most of the humor is based on double meaning/ cultural jokes that don't translate well over subtitles. Besides, indian movie subtitles are always off. I still don't understand why they havent fixed this.
I was kidding about that stuff. He was at the Mavs game about two sections over. I think you may have been there too.
Thankfully, only part. Italians mistake me for Italian. Spaniards mistake me for Spaniard. Middle Easterners mistake me for a fellow jihad. And Indians who see me for the first time would never guess I'm Indian. I guess I'd rather have it that way than vice versa. I do know Hindi though. The one where you left early (Dave stayed the for the entire manslaughter and I don't think Rodrick was at that game) or the one where you had a whole section of people you knew who ratted me out and got that Rockets Crew to spray silly string on me? Either way, both of those were huge Mavs blowouts Going back to the movie, you have to really understand the language to get some of the jokes. For example, in the speech when they changed the word from "wisdom" to "rape", I just don't see how anyone who doesn't understand the language properly would find that funny. Subtitles just wouldn't work. That was pure comedy using words. As for the whole college crowd being able to relate to the stress, that wouldn't work for Hollywood. Here in America parents let their kids study whatever they want to. How many college kids kill themselves because they can't cope with the pressure. All they do here is just switch majors. College is supposed to be a big joke/party. We already had something similar with The Dead Poet's Society, but you can't turn that into a comedy no matter how you look at it. College related humor has transitioned to stuff like National Lampoon's Van Wilder or Animal House.
slumdog was a great movie, a great story. can't imagine this movie topping that, but if it does, i'll be waiting til it comes out on dvd.
Forgot again. AAA is definitely the funniest Indian movie I have seen. Followed closely by Muna Bhai 1&2. Hera Pheri is also way up there.
This movie is absolutely not better than Slumdog. Even though they are different, 3 Idiots is way too melodramatic to be as good as Slumdog.
They're made for two different audiences. Slumdog was directed with the idea that indians werent your target audience. 3 idiots is an Indian movie for Indians. A lot of the jokes and humor are related to India in such a way that speaking Hindi is critical (I only speak a little so half of the references were over my head) as well as understanding the culture there.
I understand that, and I speak hindi fluently, and watch plenty of Indian movies. With that being said, my problem with 3 Idiots isn't about the humor in the movie. It was downright hilarious at times. My problem with it is that it is way too melodramatic (Indians in India love that stuff) at points (Pregnancy scene). There is also no subtlety in the movie and it seems like every "lesson" is being spoon fed to you at all times. I get that they are engineers, and I get that Aamir Khan is a brilliant one on top of that. I don't need to see him make some random contraptions ALL THE TIME to hammer that point in. It's like they don't trust the intellect of the audience and make sure to tell you the same points over and over and over again just so they can make sure you "get it." It just doesn't appeal to me, and overall it brought the movie down considerably for me.
