He pulled the trade off before the season began so it's foresight on his part, not hindsight. You're penalizing him for assuming that Bynum's health issues would continue or that Toronto would be fairly competitive in a pathetic Eastern conference. Why? A good GM should see these things in advance. It sounds like you're upset that he avoided a mistake that we would have made if we were in his place.

Morey once declined a Scola and Battier trade for Amare over health concerns. Does he get credit for "hindsight"?

To my knowledge Billy King never worked in the Hawks front office. He didn't give JJ that contract.

Deng's contract isn't a superb bit of salary cap work but you make it sound more egregious and horrible than it is. Considering what he has provided/and provides that team, his contract isn't a sinker.

I have to disagree re. Rose playing on a team that is/will be worse than the one he was injured on. Jackie Butler makes this current Bulls team quite better. Bellinelli gives them some shooting off the bench when/if Thibs decides to go to him. It's not necessarily a better Bulls team but it sure as heck isn't worse than the one he played on the season he got injured.

As you mentioned, his failure to find a good starting two guard in the draft or FA is pretty bad but I don't know if it's worthy of the Bad GM summit.

    Right under our noses!

On one hand I was thinking "hmm, who's the worst gm right now" and on the other hand "Damn, the Knicks actually traded for Bargiani and sent picks back?".

Yeah definitely the Knicks and I guess it'd be Glen Grunwald.

Uh...Cleveland's GM has so far been doing a way worse job than Kahn in terms of draft. In Kahn's defense, the only draft pick he made that was comically bad was that pg he drafted along with Rubio. Other picks like Wesley Johnson and Derrick Williams were considered to be at least top 5. Cleveland oth, has been reaching ever since they got Irving. Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters were drafted with top picks when they would've been available much later, and even worse they got outperformed by players picked WAY lower than them. Now they got Bennett when they could've picked Noel, Len, or even a better swingman. Maybe Bennett will become a superstar, but honestly he's a 6'8 pf who only averaged 18 and 8 in college, Derick Williams averaged 20-20.

In terms of actual roster moves, Billy King has got to be the worst GM IMHO. He's just been unbelievably lucky he latched onto an owner who doesn't mind spending half a billion dolalrs every year. King just got whatever big name player he could get, Brooklyn looks halfway decent but they cost a bajillion dollars, anybody can assemble a team like that if given the same budget. Hell, half the posters on this board could probably build a better team.

Well if you think about it Dwight Howard was the most coveted commodity on the market, he's 26 and considered to be a top 5 NBA player (at the time). If you're trading that kind of superstar, you want any and all of the following:
    1) Capspace/Expirings
    2) picks
    3) blue chip players

Well we were offering 1 and 2, but instead Hannigan chose a deal that had almost every NBA analyst exploding. Afflalo might seem like a decent NBA player, but he and Al Harrington combined make the same amount of money as DH, and since they didn't unload any salary Orlando is still capped out and won't have any capspace to resign any FAs any time soon. To add insult to injury the picks they got in the deal were all lottery protected...I have no idea how LA, Philly and Denver were able to rationalize that.

So you're saying Hannigan is a genius because he didn't get Bynum? Well what about Lakers then, they upgraded from Bynum to Howard for free? Or how about Denver, I have no idea what they traded but they got Iggy?

So in sum while I don't think hannigan was bad at all he's not exactly a genius either, compare the Dwight Howard package to the Melo package for a true superstar package. Honestly the Dwight Howard deal is pretty similar to the Tmac package we sent NYC, and Tmac is already a broken down superstar at the time.

You have no earthly clue if you think shipping off Jeff Green for Perkins was bad for OKC. The real problem with Perkins is Scott Brooks' love affair with keeping him on the floor too long when he has no business being out there.

Unlike his failure in Cleveland, Danny Ferry has done a great job with the Hawks but the problem is nobody really wants to go there. That isn't his fault.

I completely forgot about that re. Hennigan and the Magic. Ugh, if I were a Magic fan I would be smacking my head on the computer when thinking about that.

I think Ainge is solid. I am shocked he got those 1st round picks from the Nets considering how old KG and PP are. Not to mention their PHAT contracts.

When they let adelman go, that was it. Adelman got the most out of that talent. Then he had some poor coaching decisions. I'll tell u, dumars have been bad for a minute now.

And he had the last laugh.

I admit I too thought it was a bad deal and he should've taken the Rockets' offer or Bynum or just kept looking.
As it turns out, I was wrong, all the analysts were wrong, and the deal Orlando took was much better.
Vucevic, Mo Harkless and some extra assets. That's nice. The only option that might've been better -- Brook Lopez and the Nets' deal. But we won't know for a few years until we see what's Vucevic's and Harkless' upside and what they get for Afflalo.

Not to mention, the guy got Tobias Harris for Redick's expiring (Tobias looked impressive).
And he drafted Nicholson in late teens (and he looks like a steal there).

Hennigan has had a great start. He looks like the real deal and worth all the hype he got prior to Orlando.

Tobias Harris is serious. He's quick for his size, athletic. After the trade with the Magic, he averaged 36 min. 45%fg 31%3pt, 17ppg, 8reb, 2 assists, with a block to boot. If he learns to shoot, that's a steal by the Magic. Chances are Reddick leaves the Bucks. I guess that's why the Bucks are who they are.

I think Billy King has been a disaster until the last KG + PP move. I really liked that move for the Nets.

Perkins only plays 25 minutes - not sure how much less he can play as a legit rotation player?

The trade wasn't terrible. What was terrible was the contract that came after it.
They traded for a big man coming off a major leg injury, and gave him a huge contract extension before playing a game with them.

That deal pretty much cost them Harden.
