I was a huge wrestling fan circa 2000. Massive. Slowly the business lost its juice and I lost interest. WWF was putting out some great TV for a run of 3 years or so there, though. WWE's wellness policy is a joke. Without pain pills and steroids, there could be no WWE as it exists today. It was literally built on steroids and pain pills. I like Booker and Angle and Christian, Samoa Joe ain't bad, Sting's a nice guy to have around. After Eddie died, my favorite wrestler, I just haven't cared anymore.
I loved watching pro-wrestling up until probably 10th or 11th grade in HS. Every once and a while I'll turn on RAW and try to watch the WWE. I did this last night, but I just found the show unbearable. First off, there was WAY too much time spent on the boring ass "Diva" matches. Then I get to see Jerry Lawler wrestle? Look, he was great back in the day and is still a fun announcer -- but give me a break -- keep his shirt on!!!! Furthermore, these guys like Batista are horrible. No redeeming qualities whatsoever. It just doesn't seem like they spend much time developing the feuds like they use to. Maybe that has to do with the fact that there is a big PPV event every month now. Back in the day, when you had 4 main PPVs per year, they would slowly allow these feuds to build up over months and months.
What I find odd is the average WWE fan gets all pissy everytime a wrestler leaves and goes to competitor and they proclaim that the other federation is "Stealing Vince's talent." This kind of stuff has been going on long before the Monday Night Wars. They neglect to bring up the fact that it has went the other way around, too. Remember Eddie & Chavo Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Saturn, Booker T, Ric Flair and plenty of others were WCW wrestlers first. Its not like changing federations is a new thing. If Im a wrestler, Im going to wherever offers me the best opportunity.
This is why I said that I believe that TNA has a better show right now. Better writing and better talent.
I can't get into wrestling anymore. I'd rather watch UFC. The fights are real, they are entertaining, and not ridiculously over the top like wrestling.
I don't think you'll find a single wrestling fan under the age of 5 who watches it because they think the fights are "real". Yes, it is ridiculously over the top, but that's exactly why it's so popular. It's all about the stories, not the actual fights. Although lots of people really dig the technical matches. I've tried to get into UFC, but I can only take so much of watching two shirtless guys roll around on the floor together.
I agree drummer, I hate defending that. I dont watch wrestling because I believe its real. Its simple entertainment.
Ever since wrestling companies admitted that wrestling was fake, or what they like to call it: 'sports entertainment,' the storylines have become RIDICULOUS. It was already getting crappy, but when writers added "special effects" that only TELEVISION viewers could see, the crap just went down the toilet. For exampe, one time Vince McMahon was looking in the mirror, and the mirror reflection turned into another wrestler using computer effects. There's no more creativity as the better storylines are recycled. The bad story writing coupled with the wrestling rumor websites have taken the suspense and surprise factors out of wrestling, which is what made the WWF so successful. Now, they're just WWE. Bad writing took away the household name in the wrestling industry. There's not one superstar that gets everyone hyped up when their entrance music hits. No Hogans, Rocks, Stone Colds, Bret Harts, etc. John Cena is supposed to be that man, but he just doesn't cut it. Poor development of younger stars have hindered the industry as a whole, and it's starting to show. Look at the WWE, they need Jericho to get them back on their feet. TNA is just happy to sign anyone that has been mentioned in the WWE. If you really want to follow wrestling storylines, just read the wrestling websites. It'll tell you everything plus WAY more. The real life drama in the wrestling industry is FAR more exciting than the crappy fairy tale storylines of 'sports entertainment' wrestling.
Right on, really. This is why I stay away from the wrestling "news" sites. The element of surprise is still what makes it great.
I'll admit, my grandma thought wrestling was real. Even when she was in her 70s she would watch wrestling every time it came on. I know she wasn't just trying to put me on because even when i was old enough to realize that wrestling wasn't real, she still got into it. Her biggest pet peeve was when a wrestler wouldn't "hook the leg" when going for a pin. She would scream at the TV "YOU HAVE TO HOOK THE LEG!!!" any time someone went for a casual pin. She loved pro-wrestling and never missed a single show.
Nevermind. Looks like Chris Jericho is coming back to WWE. http://www.411mania.com/wrestling/n...Chris-Jerichos-Potential-Return-[SPOILER].htm
LOL...she would get along nicely with my dad. he loves wrestling and really thinks it's real. nothing irks him more than the referee always turning his attention to the faces while the heels are "cheating".
or when the ref is 'ARGUING" with the heels' valet, while he is in front of the bigass screen, and he doesnt see the heel cheating.
