Your "all Republicans are hicks" gimmick is getting stale. Odd that a supporter of the self-professed "party of inclusion" would attempt stereotyping. Very curious indeed.
Now, where have we seen that lately? I would submit painting the base of the Repub party as hicks is not in the same league as calling Dems traitors, terrorists, and the like. (In fact, painting the opposite party as simpletons and rubes has a storied history in US politics.) The current iteration of the Republican Party needs to be ground into the dust of history. If people come to think of them as hicks and that makes the process go faster, so be it. (What's tragic is that the stereotype cuts to the bone.)
Well there is some fallacy to that thinking: Not all Republicans who thought Obama is an evil Muslim were hicks...
It's not the moderates I have a problem with it's the far right wing.I just can't see myself voting for that type of party who only caters to rule whites, racist, and the affluent.
Please - the bible belters and LDS belters are more than welcome to vote democratic. I can't stop them. However the point (which you have denied but basically refused to address)remains. - they are now electorally diminished and have marginalized both themselves and their parties to two distinct regions, largely by their own doing. To prove me wrong, why don't you donate to the RNC to fund some more robo-calls. That will make me eat my words!
Firstly, I don't agree with that either. I firmly come from the "reasonable minds can differ" school of thought. Secondly, are we really going with the two wrongs make a right defense? I don't quibble with your assessment of the voting patterns of this election. I do quibble with your assessment that anybody who voted Republican is some toothless hick. Like it or not, there are Republicans everywhere. I seriously doubt that McCain received zero votes in New York or LA. He probably picked up 25% of the vote in King County, Washington. These people are not hicks. Your assumption that all Republicans must be a hick is tired, and frankly, asinine. You have got to be the most bitter person I have ever seen a week after their candidate won the election.
You're the one building up the "hick" straw man, dude. I'm happy as a clam. Somebody else is the defensive embittered one here....
I don't know the first thing about this guy. That's not a knock on him, though. This party is in desperate need of good leadership, and I hope he can offer it...because the nation needs that.
Historic day for the party of Lincoln. It took Steele 6 ballots to get 91 out of 168 votes. His lone opponent on the final ballot was a guy who joined the Republican Party because he didn't like that he was forced to attend grade schools with blacks and complained that in order to run for RNC Chair he had to drop out of his Whites Only Country Club. As for Steele, he never met a camera he didn't like, he pretended to be a Democrat during his unsuccessful Senate run, and he routinely takes advantage of the homeless... The article fails to mention that he pulled similar stunts in earlier races and that the literature claiming he was a Dem was slated to be distributed in economically poor black neighborhoods, so I guess he thinks that black voters in MD are so stupid they wouldn't know he was really a Repub. Plus, he lies... http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/001212.php Sad thing is (as weslinder noted in the other thread) he is an improvement.
To tie this into the other thread, no matter how many interviews he does Steele cannot compete with the once and now again true face of the Republican Party... And really, has there ever been a more perfect face for a party that believes all you have to do to govern is to control the message?
Michael Steele is a good figurehead and face of the Republican party. He's a good speaker, great debater, and will play well on the Sunday talk shows. But for the main job of the RNC chairman, raising money and organizing the grassroots, I'm not so sure about him. He did really poorly with GOPAC and the Republican Leadership Council. Of course, with the RNC, he'll have access to a lot more talent, and his plan looks decent. If he can delegate, he can be successful. He's a politician, not a cat herder. Dawson was a great cat herder in South Carolina, and established a grassroots network that grew the Republican Party in virtually every community across every demographic, and was why I supported him. Steele would do well to hire him or someone like him to execute his plan.
My gut tells me this won't turn out well for the GOP. But I hope he is able to make them a viable choice once again. It's more than just about raising money. If the Republican party isn't smart enough to realize they must do something besides go back to their "roots", they deserve a long time in the wilderness.
No one right now. It might end up being Steele. It would do him well to get an accomplished party hack to do the running of the party.
The Republican party needs to hope for continued economic stagnation and repeated terrorist attacks. Other than that they're done.
