I don't think he'll ever have a dependable jumpshot. If he's comfortable taking a short turn-around in the lane, that could be useful on occasion. But a jump shot from Chuck Hayes will always be the absolute last option in the Rockets offense.
I love Chuck's passing. He's like an offensive glue guy, connects everyone together and creates chemistry.
Disagree (a little) with you. He's shooting 41.9% at the preseason. Sure he has learned some movements, has improved his FTs, but he's 6-6 with no hops and will ever be. He has missed a lot of shots that a normal PF would have made easily, in these preseason games.
Most player are joggers. They just jogg and up and down the court all normal like. But Chuck always gives 110% effort and when he jogs, he jogs like a nut. That's why he's the jogger nut.
Chuck actually picked up some moves getting himself close to the basket, but he doesn't finish consistently. Need to ask master Scola to teach him the hesitation moves and the secret of two scoop offense!
The one thing I can give JVG credit for is helping Hayes really work on his defense. Really good for Chuck to make his way into the league as a defensively minded, blue collar, work horse. Now I think he realizes he needs to start contributing some offense. Way to go Chuck!! I expect a long career for you.
his offense is pretty solid. And by offense i mean he can set up the read and react offense when he's at the elbow.
yea chuck finally got to a diet regime on contract year. But he's still undersized so his contract won't be affected by his weight unless he's eddy curry.
Talk about persistence. From his bio on NBA.com Chuck Hayes: Went undrafted in the 2005 NBA Draft … signed as a rookie free agent with Houston on Oct. 3, 2005 … waived by the Rockets on Oct. 25, 2005 … selected sixth overall in the 2005 NBA D-League Draft by the Albuquerque Thunderbirds … re-signed by Houston to a 10-day contract on Jan. 18, 2006 … signed by the Rockets for the remainder of the season on Jan. 28, 2006 … Houston picked up the option on his contract on June 13, 2006 … re-signed by the Rockets as a restricted free agent on Aug. 3, 2007 … on June 30, 2010, Houston exercised a team option to extend his contract to include the 2010-11 season."
IMHO, pressure is overrated... Signed, But seriously, The Volkswagen, I mean Chuck wagon, is is becoming an offensive beast. The main difference, aside from his free throw form, is his confidence. Keep it up Chuck!
Have we finally found the illusive "consummate" professional Clyde Drexler has been referring to all these years? I think we have!
I think his production has more to do with the fact that he lost all that weight and is actually playing his true position at the 4 spot. Sure everyone plays a little harder in a contract year but he was out of his element last year. He worked hard this offseason and developed his game, I'm looking forward to him putting in some quality minutes off the bench.
Competition... Chuck sees people vying for his spot and he is stepping up his game in addition to the playing in position. Chuck is awesome he played for the T-birds here and was one of my favorite players. He understands that a good screen is as good an assist at times. Bleed Red Rockets Red Fierguard
In Adelman's offense, having the high post guy be able to shoot a 15 foot jump shot is really important. It opens up the lanes for the cutters. What videos of Webber and Miller while they were in Sacramento. I don't think he's there yet but I do think most NBA players can develop one and in Hayes' case in could be the difference of a couple of million a year.
