ISIAH THOMAS is seriously thinking wrong when he said "You should not go to the basket right now" to Carmelo Anthony... (see http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2701228 Isiah Thomas issued a warning) wouldn't that have been considered a threat instead of a warning? Has anybody stopped to think that this could have been the ROCKETS vs. the Lakers if what Isiah Thomas was saying about "running up the score" true? Kobe was still in there, yet our ROCKETS fought back. We NEVER tackled anyone from the Lakers on a fast break. If your team is EMBARASSED at home and the opponent runs up the score, you humbly try to ERASE that deficit and play better next time. Don't get pissed that you're down. You should have thought about that before you missed more than half your shots in the fourth quarter. FREAKIN' animals. As a sidenote, I am glad NAJERA didn't get suspended or fined. Shows class.
Isiah Thomas got off the hook in a big way ... he should have been held accountable. But I absolutely love how George Karl just SHREDDED Isiah today. He called him a "jerk", "jackass", "*******" and said he was "full of ****". Unfortunately, Karl and the Nuggets came out the BIG losers in this one.
and deservedly so. Karl is letting his true intent bleed through with all the name calling. He's got it in for Isaiah because of Larry Brown. I'm glad his punks are getting their just due.
If the opposing coach tells me not to go to the basket ~ the first thing i'm going to do is try to dunk on someone.
but karl's innocent, even though we know he has a pre existing grudge. the guy is a jerk himself, another coach talking about another coach like that is classless. but hey, it wasn't isiah. edit: I don't know if these teams have another game this year, but if people are gonna call out isiah for starting this, then karl is doing nothing but continuing. maybe he is angry because he did definitely lose out on talent that got suspended but clearly the beef that these guys have doesn't need to be further inflamed
Good point. I don't know if you caught this morning's piece in the Times but it basically lambasted Walt Frazier for not being appropriately condemnatory and denouncing the fight enough and contrasting him with Breen, who I think set a world record for the # of times the word disgrace and embarrassmetn can be used without taking a breath. In the old days, when Bird and the Celtics were clotheslining people and throwing elbows and regularly engaging in brawls with the Lakers, Pistons, Rox , Sixers, Hawks etc- there was never the kind of emphasis on making the required contrite expression of outrage and shock that you see these days- despite the fact the NBA was closer to it's most infamous brawling period in the 70's. Even more ironic is that people in the audience generally get happy whenever a fight breaks out. There's a reason why boxing and the UFC are popular.
Larry Brown is a very close personal friend of George Karl. per ESPN, George Karl LOVES Brown. Karl apparently resents the fact that Brown was fired by the knicks and replaced by the jerk Isiah. but I still believe George Karl had nothing to do with it. I have so much respect for the guy. great classy guy and a great coach who shows respect for everybody who deserves it. I especially respect his comments about our own Tracy Mcgrady when he called him "the best player in the league" or something like that in 04-05. I commend George Karl for calling Isiah a "Jackass" and "full of **** ". he did the right thing.
well, the obvious threat that could be easily comrehended from the video might not be concrete like u said because it didn't directly state that he personally ordered the attack even though every single one of us knows that he did. but I actually have a very legitimate concrete evidence that Isiah personally ordered the hard foul. just watch the post game interview with Isiah. when asked about what he told Carmelo, he answered (not word by word) "I told him that he and Camby shouldn't be on the floor when their team is up by 20. they kept going when we practically surrendered. they were trying to embarrass us in our home, and we weren't going to let this happen, we were going to do something about it" Isiah clearly declared that he wasn't going to let this happen, this obviously states that he personally ordered the hard foul and he was behind this whole brawl. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually pushed little Nate to act like a fool and escalate this whole thing. we gotta remember that it's not ANY hard foul. Thomas sent an unknown scrub by the name of "mardy Collins" (Mardy who?) to commit an obvious foul and to spark a potential fight that unfortunately turned into a large scale brawl. Stern SUX, Isiah should be banned. anybody knows Mr. Stern's email? and does anyone have a post game interview vid? youtube anybody? i want to send it to Mr. Stern so he can reconsider his biased decision and his complete disregard to Isiah's role in the fight.
The problem, sadly, is that Karl preached petulance, while Isiah preached violence. Violence gets you suspended, petulance merely earns you a bad rep.
I agree. George Karl did what he is supposed to do. here's the video: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://video.nbcsports.com/player/?id=51534"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://video.nbcsports.com/player/?id=51534" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> I tried to embed it. I couldn't find it on youtube so I inserted the ESPN link instead. if it doesn't work, click on the link below: http://video.nbcsports.com/player/?id=51534
I don't get this. I always thought LB actually got the better end of the deal. I don't think he enjoyed coaching the Knicks. It looks like Isiah actually did LB a favor by buying him out. LB's still getting payed right?
it's something that's been bothering me about this whole thing: Why isn't anyone in the front office of the NBA investigating what Thomas could have or could have not said? I think when you put in a player that hasn't played any minutes and who isn't valuable to your rotation (Collins) in a game and just so happens he pretty much takes Smith's head off.....you gotta think about how that came about.
Nugs are up 69-49 in the 3rd quarter over Washington right now. Should we pull our starters so we don't cause any more riots?
Karl may be a jerk also but he was right about Thomas. Thomas sucks. And they don't play again this year.
I think the Nuggets should surrender the game before it was even started. They were trying to embarrass the wizards by winning the game w/o 2 starters. It implies that they were trying to embarrass the lakers who just lost to the wizards last night. It then further implies that they were trying to embarrass all the other teams below the lakers in the standing. I think they really disrespect the league by winning the game tonight. This is a legitimate reason teams playing against Nuggets from now on should start the game with a hard foul on a Nugget player, just to send a message.
i don't know if righteous indignation is a phrase or even the right one, but that's how i always think of it. we all have to pretend we're so appalled at stuff like a bunch of politicians trying to remain squeaky clean on any subject. exactly. exactly again. which is why i think most of it is actually pseudo righteous indignation. people don't even feel the way they act like they feel, they just want everyone to think they do for some reason. like everyone who bemoans the showing of dunks and crossovers on sportscenter as taking away from the fundamentals of the game and contributing to the downfall of western civilization as if they themselves don't go crazy for the dunks and crossovers while watching a game.
