Funny. As to the fines and suspensions, why do the organizations get half a million fines, they didn't fight, nor could they have prevented it. That doesn't seem fair. Sounds more like theft.
are u freakin serious?? that's r****ded. he should lose the honors of being in the hall of fame and should be stripped from his membership. they should do a "dishonor ceremony" to get his name out of the list and kick him out of a place that's designed for high class basketball players only.
they did ask David Stern the same question, but he gave them some ingnorant **** that I didn't really comprehend. he was just putting random words together just to sound like he actually said something.
things get better. George Karl is outraged with Isiah Thomas not getting anything. and per Chris Sheridan (ESPN NBA insider live on ESPN), he publicly called him a JACKASS.. no kiddin
David Stern's comment on Isiah: "we dont have enough evidence" what the hell is Stern thinking? my 10 years old brother figured out what Isiah said. it's clear as hell. ESPN just said that Stern did the NY Knicks owner a big favor.
Why Thomas wasn't suspended is a mystery. That the teams were fined $500,000 must have been an alternative way of telling the teams their coaches are idiots. I wouldn't be surprised if Thomas is fired soon, BTW.
I think it kinda makes sense. I think it's Stern's way of saying, "Look, the franchise has to take a share of the responsability for getting a handle on the thuggery and lack of discipline and restraint that is taking over the league." It used to be that coaches were there to draw up plays for the game. Now, they have the additional job of teaching these juveniles to act like grown, mature men. The franchise bears some share of the blame when things go out of hand, IMHO. On the flipside, Isiah should know better and DEFINITELY should have gotten a smackdown from Stern.
lol, that's what I was thinking too. I think I should reconsider my vote in the "when will Isiah get canned" thread. I would say "on new year's eve"
Absolutely disagree. Isiah Thomas the basketball player was one of the best PGs of all time, a 2-time champion, a champion in college (1981), and a multi-year all-star. HOFers are elected based on their performance- Thomas certainly belongs there based on his playing career. Now, as for the rest...
This is the conference report in nba.com http://www.nba.com/news/Nuggets_Knicks_Suspensions.html Nuggets-Knicks Suspensions Posted Dec 18 2006 12:59PM Print E-mail RSS Feeds E-News Sign Up Share on Facebook NEW YORK, December 18, 2006 – In response to the events at Saturday's game between the New York Knicks and the Denver Nuggets, Commissioner David Stern issued the following statement: “The NBA and its players represent a game of extraordinary skill, athleticism and grace, and, for good or bad, set an example for the entire basketball world, on and off the court. On the positive side, there is our players’ passion for the game, engagement with our fans, commitment to their communities and respect for the history and tradition of the game. With respect to the negative, while we have worked diligently to eliminate fighting from our game, there are failures such as Saturday night at Madison Square Garden that demonstrate there is still more to be done. “It is our obligation to take the strongest possible steps to avoid such failures in the future and to make a statement to all who follow the game of basketball that we understand our obligations and take them seriously. Accordingly, I am issuing the penalties listed below, and will take the occasion to set forth some of the considerations that have influenced my decision here and will continue to guide us as we seek to demonstrate our determination that the NBA and its players be viewed as standing for the best in sports. “Among the considerations that influenced my decision: “Teams will be held accountable for the actions of their employees – management and players alike. “Players must take advantage of a break or pause in a heated situation to stop and restore order, instead of escalating the situation. “Players must heed directions from referees and others who are trying to maintain order and not continue to put fans, referees and peacemakers in harm’s way.” The suspensions and fines are below: The Knicks and Nuggets organizations have each been fined $500,000 each as a result of the altercation. Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony has been suspended for 15 games. Knicks guard Nate Robinson has been suspended for 10 games. Nuggets guard J.R. Smith has been suspended for 10 games. Knicks guard Mardy Collins has been suspended for six games. Knicks forward Jared Jeffries has been suspended for four games. Knicks center Jerome James has been suspended for one game for leaving the bench during an on-court altercation. Nuggets forward Nene has been suspended one game for leaving the bench during an on-court altercation.
I think it's a case where the circumstantial evidence is obvious, but there was nothing concrete that would hold up on appeal. Isiah telling Carmelo to stay out of the paint isn't the same thing as a mic in the Knicks huddle catching Isiah pulling a Don Chaney with Mardy Collins. No way could Stern make a suspension stick. A fine is probably the most he could get away with. We all know he did it, but no one can prove it unless team members rat. Coach Thomas, did you order the code red?! Evan
Hopefully there is a wink and nod between Stern and the Knicks and Dolan fires Zeke pronto. That is the only appropriate action. I think the suspensions are pretty much in line.
you think firing a coach is appropriate for supposedly ordering a hard foul. its not like he told collins to punch someone. coaches order hard fouls all the time. even jvg said this whole situation is overblown, even if you think isiah is solely responsible for the brawl.
speaking of brawls http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HBZKyjWMSI some rockets players involved (sampson, barkley), but the "better" part is van gundy who's "accidentaly" punched by camby at #2, and who's dragged on the floor by mourning at #1 ... hilarious (i'm not a van gundy hater, just in case) ... already seen the miami/NY fight, but i wasnt aware of the camby incident (15 stitches for our beloved coach )
Then the Knicks will hard foul everybody with a minute and half. They started this in the game before the Nuggets. In the Pacers game, Mardy Collins gave some Indiana scrub, a flagrant foul with a minute and half to go. It boiled over in the next game, the Nuggets, when they ran up the score with starters. It was a flashback blowout to the night before, they didn't want it to happen again. I know they are getting very frustrated with their blowouts. They should just motivate them to work harder on defense.
