Not really found of the newer version. Too much of a personal story with the contestants which the older version wasn't like, the camera shots were annoying at times, and don't get me started on the commentators.
I loved it! My wife and I were yelling at the TV. It was well done. Those male Gladiators are roid monsters. Much more intimidating than the females. My wife said that Militia (male gladiator in the first show tonight) was a gay p*rn star.
WAY too overproduced (I don't need the replays thanks, except for the knee injury so I could cringe a couple more times) and too many flash cuts, but all in all it was fun. Helga scares me, but I'd love to get a shot at the male gladiators if I wasn't so fat and broken down. They're going up against midgets, try someone your own size. BTW, the line for Crush forms to the right, behind me.
I enjoyed it. However it was not as cool as it was many years ago. Why is the ref so fat? Why does he yell to the contestants in such a weird way? It used to be just "Contestant ready? Gladiator ready?" Now they have to answer back? Does everything seems smaller? In Assault what was up with the dumb weapons? You have to load a gun, **** it and then fire it? That is way to hard. Plus you have to find an arrow in a pit of sand, plug into the bow and then fire?
EDIE: Weird I clicked on their embed link and i used the image tags and they don't link up right. Anyhow, just click on them Crush
Whats the obsession with Crush? Her face is fun to look at, but her legs are gross...not only are they big, but they arent even toned. Just yao-like tree trunks. Ive seen hotter at the retirement home.
I enjoyed it too, but also had a problem with Assault. I'm guessing they'll change it after seeing how hard their changes were. Esp. considering what a great game Assault used to be! They need to get rid of the running-across-the-beam-with-100-lb-things-flying-at-you thing.. that game is the only really crappy one. Oh and instead of the questionable rules on the "running past ppl with blocking equipment", they should switch back to football like in the old days. Just pads and go at it, trying to get in the end zone
"Gauntlet" was a game in the original version of the show as well. I don't think hey should get rid of the bridge game just because they need some new games to put on there so it's not a carbon copy of the original version. My favorite game from the original version was "Atlasphere" where they rolled around in those giant cages trying to score points.
I loved it. I think the stuff about the referee being fat, the replays etc. is just nitpicking. It was a lot of fun to watch, and the only question I was asking was why they waited so long to bring it back.
Overall, I just loved this. Absolutely awesome. I really never, ever watch TV, but I think I'm gonna make an exception just for this. Of course, there were a few problems... first, DAMN that was a lot of commercials! Second, way too much "tell me about your life" BS. I just don't care. Third, that bridge game was pretty lame. Fourth, Assault looked needlessly hard. Bring back the old football game, and bring back the original intro theme (it was a huge part of the cheesy charm of the show!). Wolf was awesome. I'm sorry, some of you guys are saying he's annoying, but come on! He's cheesy as hell! He looks and sounds ridiculous, and that's why he's awesome! I was cracking up every time he was on screen! Also LOVED the new Eliminator. The old Eliminator was too easy... the new one really looks like an endurance test. That treadmill thing at the end is brutal, just brutal. Entertainment at its very best, I say. I could watch the Pyramid and Hang Tough all day.
I was a huge fan of the original show. Watched it all the time. I would say that I don't like this version partly because I have gotten older and this sort of thing doesn't appeal to me anymore, but I don't think that is it. I still watch the old reruns of the original and enjoy it just as much. Some of my problems have been detailed by others. I would prefer they not pick contestants solely because they seem "interesting" or because they are willing to trash talk the gladiators. It just sounds forced. And it especially seems stupid if the gladiators don't give it back...like in Joust when the gladiator twice stepped on the contestant's pillar. All that guy did was smirk and glare. Never even opened his mouth except to bellow "Rwarghhereeee" when the ref asked if he was ready. They need to cut the interviews of contestants...tell Hulk to talk less and to maybe throw haymakers at the gladiators and contestants occasionally...get live commentators instead of the after-the-fact studio crap that completely takes you out of it, and maybe come up with some better stuff in the Eliminator. I like the addition of the water and fire towards the beginning...but I don't like that there are no gladiators present in the Eliminator. They need to get past/best at least one gladiator to win it all.
I was going to watch it, but decided instead to cook a nice dinner with my wife. I think I made the right choice.
Raven, the only real Gladiator participation in the Eliminator was when the participants had to run through the paper wall where 3 of the 4 little doors were blocked by Gladiators...then half of the time people ran into the Gladiators they just blew right through them. The only other real participation by gladiators I can remember was when they pushed those big ass balls at the competitors.
Oh, I know. It was always a minimal participation, but even in the original I thought there should have been more. And to have none denigrates the final product down to just watching two average guys that might or might not be athletic trying to navigate a course that for the most part is not entertaining. And with the Gladiators hiding behind the paper walls in the original. Every once in a while, the contestant would blow through there and get PUNISHED by the gladiator. Those few times made all the other non-events worth it.
