I have an issue with male cheerleaders, aren’t they in it for the cheap feel and front row seats ? As a woman when some guy says he wants to become a cheerleader to cheer on the guys, do they really believe that stuff? It is what it is. This thread belongs in the D&D..
I don't know if I've ever met a religious person who knew the meaning of the word "objective". That those cheerleaders have beautiful backsides is a subjective truth based on my own personal attraction to their asses. Someone else may disagree with my assessment without being wrong. That those cheerleaders make me physically aroused is an objective truth based on the biological reaction I endure by looking at their pictures. To disagree with this fact would necessarily be wrong because any truth-preserving test of the hypothesis would only confirm it.
I agree with Jelle, although I don't even think religion has to be in the conversation for people to realize what cheerleading, particularly in the NBA is: glorified strip dancing. Come on, people. Even if you personally don't have a problem with it and love to see half naked women perform in front of you whenever, it is still what it is. These women are really not much more than glorified strippers being paraded on what is ostensibly a family friendly event for all. Just look at the RPD and one of their signature acts -- where they dress up in cowgirl outfits that have the front part of the pants cut out so that you can see up to their panties, and then come out, break out a few burlesque moves and then rip off their clothes. Then they make swimsuit calendars and distribute them for free at these family sporting events, and do competitions where you vote for which team's dancers are the most sexually arousing. This is especially bad in the NBA. At least, in the NFL and NCAA, even though some of the dressing is provocative, they still spend most of their time doing normal cheerleader routines. It has gone too far, and I find it extremely hypocritical for the NBA to parade itself as a socially responsible organization, promote activities for families and kids, do "family pack nights" and then do all this. Strippers belong where they belong -- in strip clubs. Not in sport arenas. I fail to see what part of that consists as "cheerleading". There was a time in the NBA when cheerleading was actually cheerleading. These days, it is not, and anybody who wants to claim it is is just deceiving himself.

When I go to Rockets and Lakers games I never see anything offensive, the dancing is good natured and in support of the team. Strippers take there clothes off, As cool as it would be, I have yet to see cheerleaders do the same.....
I'll say one thing. It's a bit disconcerting to watch a bunch of grown, sweaty men running around playing w/ balls, and then five seconds later switch to sexual thoughts watching scantily clad women dance in front of you.
Shroopy, who were you quoting on this statement about studies on fashion? This sounds like something a Cleric would say to badmouth america. If somebody said that in this thread, they probably edited it because I can't find it. I do know without even trying to research this that it's an absolute false statement. Oh, and even the Celtics have dancers now, get with the times, things aren't going to stay the same forever.
personally, if it came down to either seeing cheerleaders or getting a free t-shirt. i'd go for the t-shirt.
Did I piss you off earlier today or something? This certainly isn't the first case of somebody not getting sarcasm on this board, not even the most egregious.
I apologize - did not mean to offend you. I realized that my words were too harsh and changed them afterwards. I just couldn't believe someone would not see that this was meant in a sarcastic way.
Well, maybe I just really wanted to think that was something Jelle had said to poke fun at him and instead I made myself look stupid.
