so you never saw mcgrady played at the high/mid post before? and ask yourself, mcgrady operating there wouldn't open up another dimension of this offense? that's one of the best positions to create (without much dribbling) in adelman's offense (think chris webber), esp. if you have shooters all over the place like we do.
oh my god. WATCH THE GAME. i RARELY see ariza go 1-on-1 (at most, i saw 3-4 times he tried to go 1-on-1 v. the blazers last night). if you saw the game, you know that. god, d/l R2K's full game and watch yourself. jesus. it's hard to argue with someone who clearly didn't watch the game. i'm sure you didn't by making the statement, "WHY DO YOU THINK HE TRIES TO GO ONE ON ONE?" i'm sure it gets annoying b/c you clearly don't know what you're talking about.
no, i factor in the first 3 games. he RARELY goes 1-on-1. go d/l R2K's vids. i'm sure someone will upload the highlights of all the baskets of the game and you can see for yourself. it will help the discussion if you actually saw the games. each game, you can count the # of times he tried to go 1-on-1 on ONE HAND.
I don't understand why you bother arguing if you intentionally disregard relevant data (preseason). However, I only saw the 1st quarter last night before I headed out. So I can't attest to anything after that.
preseason is when you "experiment." you try to see what you can and can't do. this is a new role for him. fortunately, he figured it out that he's not a 1-on-1 player and has limited those types of plays. and preseason's data/play is irrelevant. if they are, where's POPS?
Preseason data may be irrelevant, but not it's style. But if you insist on claiming it's irrelevant, then your opinions would be better served if they were based on more than the first 3 games of the season. Pops is on the bench. If he ever sees playing time, expect him to play a style similar to how he played in the preseason.
really? wow your logic beats me. in the preseason, nobody plays hard, except for the guys who try to make the team. the starters never see more than 25+ minutes (and they play to AVOID injuries). and coaches try to experiment as much as they can (which they rarely do during the season). so no, there's a reason POPS is on the bench (he was a BEAST during the preseason by the way).
t_mac has a point. Preseason is where you try and see what works and what doesn't. Ariza has been working on his 1-on-1 during the summer, it makes sense he'd try 'em out in preseason against summer league fodder. We all know how that turned out, so he probably stopped or at least severely limited his 1 on 1 attempts for the time being once the regular season rolled around. And let's face it, if Ariza couldn't dominate rookies and training camp fillers what more legit NBA players? If I was him I'd stop my 1 on 1 attempts as well, at least until I get some more work under my belt.
Once again, Bima, great thread and you said what i have said before. The rockets need to trade shane. There are a couple of reason why they should. First, he's declining and doesn't fit the fast pace they're playing right now. Second, chase can gain some valuable experience and so far has shown that he belongs. Finally, if the rockets are going to have any shot at a free agent this summer, he needs to go. Ariza can do what he can do and some and chase plays well nough to get minutes also. They can do it a few ways, it doesnt matter, but they need to do it even if they have to package lowry or scola with him.
ok first of all i trust in Morey. he has not failed this organization ONCE since hes been the Gm.. Think about it. he found brooks, landry in 2nd round. he got scola from the spurs. he traded bonzi wells and mike james for bobby jackson..(and i remember i was PISSED when we did this.. cause Bonzi was playing well durnin the win streak) but thats ok cause bobby jackson helped TREMENDOUSLY and we traded HIM AND DONTE GREEN for artest which was amazing... he found Wafer who was a BRIGHT spot last year. then we didnt resign him and we got chase budinger in the second round.. who is playin like a vetren. he will only get better. then we get rid of artest and sign ARIZA for what cheap.. which is amazing cause as of 3 games in the season he has 23 ppg... so in summary IN MOREY I TRUST. as far as Tmac1. i agree with everything almost everything you says.. but i disagree with what you said about Aaron brooks. he will blossom to one of the best point guards in the leauge.. With the way this team is playing so far, we got to wait till after we play the jazz in utah, lakers in houston, the thunder and the mavs. then we will really get a good feel of what this team is about without yao and mcgrady. but i feel once mcgrady comes back we will play like we did in the 22 game win streak. or should i say 11 or 10 game win streak(someone can correct me with this, its off the top of my head) without yao. which means that the rockets will end up being one of the darkhorse teams (maybe one of best in western conference)in the west.. Now i know alot of you are thinking ^ "what the hell are u smoking" but i just have this feeling... this team HUSTLES. plays hard for 48 minutes a game, Aaron brooks has turned into such an offensive threat that teams have to put thier defensive game plans to stopping AB. now i know someone has said well "wait till he gets doubled" but i want you to think back during the lakers rockets series last year. Aaron brooks had a breakout preformance during the playoffs and they tried to focus thier game plan on stoppin brooks but it was too risky... that leaves battier and artest and wafer open. now change artest and wafer and replace them with Ariza and Budinger.. now add a HEALTY mcgrady or at least a 70 precent mcgrady(which is what we had during the 22 game winstreak... he had his knee and shoulder hurting pretty bad.. he still put up big numbers and had GREAT ASSIST. and by the way Ariza fits this team, and thier style like a GLOVE, EVEN if mcgrady comes back... Mcgrady will FIT THIS TEAM PERFECTLY, making us a contender... and as far a a center goes.. we DO need YAO.. im not saying that we are better without yao.. because if we had yao. we would be the favorites to win a championship (disregarding injuries) but i am saying that this team is STILL scary good. UNDERRATED. so in summary, Charles barkley and ALL the sports writers out there will EAT Crow (as some of you put it) and yes sadly enough alot of clutchfans memebers.. This is my opinion. i have my right to it. and i HOPE that i am RIGHT about my opinion.. and im sure alot of you fans do too.. because as far as im concerned WE DESERVE A BREAK! please feel free to take the time to read this and reply lets go rockets lets suprise and shock the world! RED NATION BABY
i love AB, trust me on that. like i said, i was one of the few last year that would not trade brooks for nash at all. brooks will be a very good PG, but i don't think he'll be in the deron/paul/prime nash/tony parker level. like i said, his lack of ability to get to the line will hinder him in terms of consistent scoring (the better scorers in this league get to the line when they can't make their shot. when AB struggles with his shot, how will he score consistently?). but he'll be a very good player, easily our best PG in a decade by far.
watching how adelman utilized tracy when yao went down 2 years ago makes me think this way. tracy was at the high/mid post A TON. and if you were adelman, what plays would you run for him? give him the ball at the 3pt line? pick and rolls? screen and rolls? you have to see if he can regain all speed/quickness and see it on a consistent basis first. working at the mid/high post won't require much of that. it's really common sense. tracy last year demanded double teams more than you think. he averaged 5 assists on ONE LEG. and he's going to be taller than almost any who guards him at the mid/high post, he'll get his share of double teams. that can only help ariza, who can't create his own shot. when tmac returns, ariza will take less shots, just will everybody (including tracy himself). but like i said, adding a healthy tracy doesn't hurt a team b/c he will add a new dimension to this offense (remember our offense for the first 11 games when yao went down during the 22 game winning streak? the efficiency WENT THROUGH THE ROOF! and that was with RAFER AND BOBBY J as the guards). now you have AB and ariza. you really still think tracy is not going to help this offense? unless tracy limps... well that means his career is over.
Don't close the door on him yet. I see huge improvements from AB by far and expect big things from him in the future. Let's wait till the end of this season to assess Aaron's ceiling.
oh i hope he proves me wrong. if he can get to the line consistently 6-7 times, oh me oh my. he's going to average 20+ for a long time in this league. but with his emergence, i think any chance of brooks being moved (either with battier or tmac in a trade) is decreasing by the day.
It sounds great to trade Shane, but Shane is what holds this team together because there are no leaders on this team. Even with Yao and Tmac around, they aren't leaders. Unless there is someone that grabs the leadership role, I just dont see it. He's why this team plays so hard. He should definitely be in a backup role when Tracy returns though...so you have Brooks/Tmac/Ariza/Scola/Hayes.
