I don't think we can label any race/ethnic group as most racist, for there is no data to support that. From experience wise, I've encountered racists from all races, including Chinese. But one thing surprised me the most is, that I met most open and direct racism in the States. The racism I experienced in Europe were usually subtle, and I have experienced least racism in Canada. Of course, that's just my personal experience with a small data pool.
Wow you need to take a reading comprehension class. I was saying in response to another poster that being paid doesn't mean it isn't slavery. I said that the problem wasn't that they received nothing, but rather the way they were treated, and they weren't free to come and go. You make it sound as if I excused slavery on the basis of receiving something in return. Please don't take my statements out of context.
Yea it does. If you're forced and not paid to do it that is a prime reason it is slavery. You can say rape isn't rape b/c you are giving them the D*&k as payment. Makes no sense it is still forced on a person and they arent being paid anything of value to them.
not to mention if you have slaves to work, you need to give them clothes, food, and shelter. its a moot point at best.
It's a totally different country. United states had laws to some extent to protect civil rights when compared to that of the slavery era in which they were pretty much non-exisitant. A = B != C imho.
Claiming or accusing racism when there is none is just as bad as racism itself. I didn't see anything in the OP's post that displayed any racism whatsoever.
Frederick Douglass, a former slave himself who advised President Lincoln on matter of slavery, didn't sound so eager as you, pgabriel, MadMax, and a few others in this thread to make the distinction between African slaver trade and Coolie trade. Here's what he had to say: (Edit) Link: http://american_almanac.tripod.com/fredfree.htm
My reading comprehension is just fine. The way your posts were written implied that slaves received something for working. That is one of the silliest arguments I have ever heard, and quite original. Others responded to you that these things they received were necessary to ensure they were still able to work and function as slaves. Hence, why would anyone even mention that? Like another poster noting, that's like a rapist saying "I raped her but she did get to have sex". Here is your first quote: Someone rebutted you: And your response was: Again, my reading comprehension is just fine. Maybe you should work on how you word things if you don't want your message to come off a certain way..because what you typed implies slaves were getting something for being slaves.
You categorically denied that Chinese coolies were slaves. How did the Chinese coolies end up in the U.S., BTW?
What are you talking about, I only talked about chinese railroad workers who immigrated here from china to work.
wnes, you're a day late and a dollar short. the first post I responded to was about chinese railroad workers. now please provide your link
