I'm just glad we're to the point in this country where someone complaining about racism uses examples of getting poor service from people in jobs notorious for giving poor service. I think that as long as we're confronting this kind of racism, we shouldn't have to worry about lynchings anymore.
I do want to make it clear that we do get pulled over, we do get hassled by the police too. Just because its a white and black guy, doesn't mean it has to do with race. People ignoring that prejudice/discrimination goes both ways does get annoying. It doesn't suck being white in the US, but it doesn't suck being Black in the US either.
The most racists people are the most ignorant or with an agenda to promote racism. That said I do find some old people to be more racist and old men sexist toward women. I find that they don't mean any harm by it though. It's just a generation gap where it was more accepted.
a fair number of black people feel they are entitled because of something that happened a long time ago. move on its 2009....there will always be some type of racism. we live in a country that provides all of us endless opportunities so there shouldnt be any excuses.
Its not easy getting over hundreds of yrs of slavery along with Jim Crow, lynchings, peaceful protesters being attacked by dogs and firehoses. Its called having sensitivity to these issues. I admit many blacks are very sensitive to these issues b/c America has been pretty insensitive. You have to step into the other persons shoes as well As far as the thread starter, You're are Asian and I can say that everytime I go to the corner store they don't smile, say you're welcome. Give you any conversation. Look at you as if you could steal something. But do i believe Asians are the most racist..Nope If you met many nice black folk then why not start a thread on how nice black people are, doesnt that mean blacks arent the most racist because you ran into some nice ones.
this is too funny. there are two conco stations where I got gas this morning. I always choose this one over the other so I give the guy cash for a gas card. this guy is middle eastern, never looks you in the eye never says thank you. the card doesn't work, I use these things all the time. he starts explaining to me that I didn't put it in right, because a lot of people are confused because you have to put it in with the writing upside down. I'm like, dude, I know this it doesn't work, and instead of giving me a card he just gives me my money back like i'm an idiot. so I start cursing, which i'm ashamed of, but it was pretty frustrating. so then I go to the one down the street and the far east asian lady, I think she's korean, doesn't say hello, thankyou are even look at me. that being said, there is a little tension between blacks in the ghetto and asians that I don't think anyone can deny. we can go back and forth on who's fault it is, but I don't think that's a productive debate, its just going to cause a bunch of mean comments.
the chinese were the ones that built the railroads and a majority of our ancestors were slaves at one point or another but you dont see them walking around acting like they are owed reparations.
That's just part of Asian culture. There isn't much eye contact made or conversation initiated. We are mainly passive in these aspects. Everyone in this thread should watch Gran Torino to learn something about the good and bad sides of a culture. Plus, Clint Eastwood plays a cute old man who yells "Get off my lawn!" while pointing an M1 Garand at your face.
were they kidnapped and brought here. sorry, I just hate when people compare other immigrant's situations to slavery, its pretty ridiculous.
Hold on bro. I don't discount what the chinese went throught. But 100's of years of being the backbone America's economy. FREE LABOR. Families split up, young girls raped, stripped of their children and SOLD. My ancestors were bought and sold on the market. You say at one point or another. Try all points and another. Who ask for reparations? Some blacks do. I believe reparations should be made in honoring those slaves regardless of race and also helping to uplift those who have been at a disadvantage regardless of race.
And I respect your reasoning but I could give a reasoning for why we may seem racist when truthfully we arent its just a culture thing learned and acquired through past and present events. Its a culture thing. And sometimes those cultural differences clash. But good dialogue and an open mind is a great start like what we're doing now.
