awesome! that's a first for me...being called a yankee...since my family has been in Houston for 5 generations now!
Black people are people like everyone else. There are a-holes and there are nice people. Some Blacks like everyone else aren't immune from bias but its ridicoulous to jump to the conclusion from a couple of bad experiences to claiming they are the most racist people in America.
my grandfather would roll over in his grave if he thought someone were calling his grandson a yankee. but i don't know Casey and he doesn't know me...not even a little bit. the person he's talking about isn't me, so it's Kool & the Gang.
Have you met any rude people in other races? If you said you have met nice blacks then why not say "Damn black people are cool b/c I met some real nice ones. There's always some rude ones in the bunch regardless of race. You unluckily ran into some (and maybe on a bad day) What would you say if I reversed it and said that about your race would you feel I had a valid point?
I think the whole thing is this: 1. No race is more racist than another, that's just a stereotype. There are racist people within every group. 2. The past plights of African Americans in the past in America still effect many of us in some way or another. Its not easy to get over such things, especially when there are many who are insensitive to them. 3. Many cultures have had their plights in America and truly cannot be compared to each other. 4. Dialogue and open mindedness to each others feelings may lead to understanding each other more. Why do people kill b/c of religion or culture differences? These stereotypes cast us all in a bad light and I think WE ALL need to self evaluate and be will to hold ourselves responsible for the thought on this issue.
Some black lady started yelling at me for no reason the other day on the street, that must mean all blacks are racist The fact of the matter is that 95% of white people are good people and 95% of black people are good people, same with all other races.
Only way I personally can think to do that is to do my best to not let race effect any decision I make in my daily life. It's important to be aware of what happened to folks before, but you can't let that be the focus of your daily life or it will hinder your forward progress. You have to find an equilibrium.
While it's true that there are racists in every race, I challenge you - DARE you to prove any statistical measurement to back that up. It can't be done. Things like culture make a huge difference. I'd say asians are pretty racist (being one myself), moreso than whites. I'd also say that blacks can be very overtly racist, as much so as your stereotypical 'redneck' and even more so. typical nonsense and emotionmongering tripe. 'insensitive'? please. That doesn't negate the fact that blacks can be very overtly racist. While this is true, the first step must be to instill a culture where that is a desirable outcome; all too often in poorer parts of the country racism is a fact of life and that kind of culture is not easily replaced by such flowery diatribes lecturing people to be more 'open minded' or other such crap. protip: life ain't pretty. animals kill each other all the time for no reason. this whole focus on 'religion' or 'culture' being some sort of root-of-all-evil misses the point: the desire to kill others is bred into us. it will never go away; the most we can do is put so much social pressure on individuals to suppress that urge that only the most deviant people will act on them. the irony in promoting a 'free society' and imposing such strict thought-morality on each is almost too much sometimes.
My friend Isaiah(black) paid for my lunch the other day. Really, for no apparent reason. I walked to the mail pod last night at about 11pm. My nieghbor Damian(black) was kind enough to offer me a hit of his reefer cigarette. these are both very true stories of how nice black people are and they now nullify your bad stories.
If a black person says something racist, he's a comedian If somebody else do it, then he's clearly a racist That's pop culture for you
Was that racism? I think the guy in the postal office just had a bad day and may be the bus driver needs glasses or didnt see you properly. Ive experienced worse but I dont complain, that is how life is, you probably are young and think that the world is against you, just dont mind it.
This is the insenstiveness I speak about, thanks for proving my point. Why don't you say some Blacks can instead of grouping everyone together. You've now proven my stereotype argument, thanks Koke Are you from that "fact of life" part of the country. What are you doing to help make that change instead of telling me it wont work? What have you tried to make it work? How do you instill that in a culture? These arent rhetorical questions. protip: life ain't pretty. animals kill each other all the time for no reason. this whole focus on 'religion' or 'culture' being some sort of root-of-all-evil misses the point: the desire to kill others is bred into us. it will never go away; the most we can do is put so much social pressure on individuals to suppress that urge that only the most deviant people will act on them. the irony in promoting a 'free society' and imposing such strict thought-morality on each is almost too much sometimes. Speak in laymans terms. Life isnt pretty to some and its wonderful to others. its the perception of the individuals. But I'd like to think most people would like to live life on the pretty side. The desire to kill is bred in YOU not us Koko I can't judge you but your words make me discern alot about you.
