I'm sure there are plenty of people in right in your hometown that fit this list. They may 'only' be a net worth of high 7 figures, not billionaires, but you don't have to be lucky or sacrifice family to be a successful entrepreneur. A few of my friends have done it.
Bill Clinton? Born to a dirt poor family, adopted by an alcoholic stepfather who beat his mother, earned scholarships to Georgetown and Oxford. Sounds like a rags-to-riches story to me
I'm surprised there has yet to be a mention of Stephen Hawking. Others (off the top of my head) I'd like to have a conversation with... Al Gore Ringo Starr Robert Dallek Stephen Pyne John Paul Stevens Kareem
Well, I'd like to figure out how. In fact, I think I'll start a new thread about it. Why not? It's summer. People suppose get horny.
Magazines like Inc. and Entrepreneur always have interesting articles on these stories. BTW, I'm sure we have some people on this bbs who actually fit the bill too. I forgot to mention my list...off the top of my head: Al Gore Roni Size Dalai Lama Heidi Klum (hey, she seems down-to-earth in her interiews)
Jimmy Buffett Bill Clinton Aaron Sorkin Matt Stone & Trey Parker George Carlin Jon Stewart Carl Hiaasen
Warren Buffet Pure genius and masterful businessman, perhaps the greatest entrepreneur of the 20th century. I am a business major myself and came across his teaching and principles when I read a book about him. He is a man of great ethics and integrity and has donated away his life's savings to charity. Buffet is the penultimate man who truly lived the American dream from humble his beginning to great fortunes amassed while never forgetting his roots, values and honesty above all. Deep inside I consider him my ultimate role-model above any athlete or entertainer could ever become. I want to me like him someday and if I could ever meet him for only 5 minutes and exchange thoughts over a cup of coffee, that would be more achieving than meeting all the celebrities in the world.
I agree. The guy's written some great songs and even spun one off into the Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant chain and owns a minor league baseball team. He's starting up a casino/hotel. He even makes his own beer and runs charity organizations for manatees and hurricane relief. Wiki says he grosses about $100 million a year. Still, while Margaritaville gets all the pub, I like Come Monday. I also like that really rich dude that has the same name.
