yup. talk about "flow" all you want and being a "lyricist" but in terms of importance, m&m doesnt hold a candle to the beastie boys. Not to mention...didn't dre provide m&m with the beats to alot of his "hits". but time will tell. Beastie boys are still very well known and respected and their music still holds up...Lets see if the same will be said about m&m in almost 20 years. I highly doubt that since its been a few years since I ever even heard his name.
seems m&m fans have a hard time understanding what the thread is talking about..."most important"...which isnt too surprising

comparing the beasties and eminem is almost a moot point. the beasties are legends and have had a longevity unparalleled by most in the music industry. i was just making a point that as far as skills are concerned, eminem is the most skilled when it comes to his lyrical ability and flows. however, the beasties are all around very talented artists/musicians as well. i do believe eminem has longevity as well. you haven't heard eminem's name in awhile not because he's dropped off the face of the planet or anything, but it's because he's one of those artists who can go on hiatus for a long period of time, and then come back. he's been doing more producing lately (50, nas, etc.) . and if you're gonna make the argument that em only was successful because he had dre backing him, then one can say the same about the beasties having russel simmons backing them as their manager in the early days. the bottom line is, they are both important to hip hop culture and it's hard to argue one being more so than the other.
fair enough. Lyrically m&m may be better (bespite my bias that he is overrated), however, overall music talent I'm taking beastie boys. I dont know if he can go hiatus and come back later...he was red hot for his few years but has been relatively quiet since. SO he really hasnt "comeback" from anywhere yet. But i'm sure he could throw out a crap CD with 2 good songs and sell a million you are right about russell simmons, but then beastie boys had over a decade of a career after that
when was this? Cause when of the most famous french rap groups 113 did a instru on a nirvana song in like 2006 that I thought was very good...
Hey guys. I thought this would be a good place to post this. My brother-in-law is an aspiring white rapper. He is from Sacramento, CA but is living here in Houston with my wife and I. He recently got out of prison after 5 years of time. He recently recorded a few tracks for his upcoming album. His song "Trapped" has been getting a lot of airtime on the West Coast. We have a meeting on Monday with the guys at 97.9. His words are pretty raw, I think you'll like it. Especially those Dads out there that have been in trouble at one point in there life. Just to let you know, the little girl in his song is his 8 year old daughter. Thanks for checking it out guys and let me know what you think. www.dubbstyle.com www.myspace.com/dubbstylemusic
Kid Rock came out of nowhere in 1998 and basically changed the direction of music. He is still one of the best live acts out there. His performance in 1997 fashionable loud is legendary and to all the haters, not you, but the people in this thread who have ridiculed his music, that performance was the **** and is still the ****. His performance on the MTV music awards with run dmc and aerosmith is another example of that. That performance is and was hotter than any performance that I have ever seen from eminem or beastie boys. His cover of fat bottom girls at cmt's outlaws was another great performance. Kid Rock, among musicians, has an least as much respect as beasties or eminem, maybe more. The ironic thing is that the only area of music where he lacks respect is among rap only lovers. The guy has played with Aretha franklin for crying out loud.
I have seen Kid Rock in concert 3 times, because he was performing with other acts that I was there to see. I thought all 3 of those performances were absolute crap. Sorry, I know you're a fan but that was really my opinion of each show. I actually did like Kid Rock somewhat until after I saw him live the 1st time.
Really? What specifically did he do that made you feel that way and who were you there to see? Kid Rock has been the headliner for years.
The game is different now than it was back when Beastie Boys came out. I picked Eminem based on how he came onto the scene and took over the rap game (70 million album sales worldwide) was/is unthinkable. Beastie Boys paved the way but Eminem constructed the road and drove an 18-wheeler on that path. It was a hard decision and also a biased one as I was a fan of eminem during his dirty dozen days.
Rapping Skills Eminem >>>>> Beastie Boys >>> Kid Rock. Eminem is the best white rapper ever. Importance to Rap Beastie Boys >> Eminem >>>>>> Kid Rock. If the Beastie Boys were just a 2 album success, and if they weren't still going strong, I'd go Eminem. One to hang out with Kid Rock>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Beastie Boys/Eminem. By FAR the most undebatable part of the discussion http://www.babble.com/CS/blogs/famecrawler/2007/10/01-07/kid-rock-pam-anderson.jpg
Of the three, the only artist I've seen live is the Beastie Boys. I think I've seen them 3 or 4 times, although I had tickets for the Rage/ B-Boys tour that got cancelled because one of the Beasties broke his arm. Anyway, the first time I saw them was on the Lollapalooza tour back in the day. The Smashing Pumpkins were headlining, but the B-Boys COMPLETELY stole the show. After seeing both acts, people were pissed that BB wasn't closing the shows. I've seen them in a number of venues during the tours for three different albums, and they are as awesome in concert now as they were then. I love Eminem, and some could argue he's the best rapper ever (not just white rapper), but I think the Beasties get my vote based on their sustained success over a long period of time. (20+ years and counting now....Can y'all believe that Licensed to Ill came out in 1986?!?! Some of that music is still a party staple. Conversely, they've been able to redefine themselves since then and still find tremendous success with albums like Ill Communication and Hello Nasty.)
