rezdawg, I like you and you seem like a decent guy apart from the douchebaggy places you hang out at so please stop taking the bait. I'm sure you do great volunteer work but you should avoid talking about it in depth.
Whats wrong with talking about it? Its the best thing Ive done as a dentist...I was not bragging about it in any way. Only when Ronny had to make a comment and I brought up the award as a way to prove that I wasnt BSing. Most people in healthcare have similar stories to mine...or at least SHOULD have similar stories, so its really not a topic for me to boast about. I was just answering the question the OP asked. I could have just said I did volunteer work. But that's so broad and does not really give any idea or perspective on the matter. But fair enough...seems like anytime I say anything, there are people ready to jump down my throat. Silly stuff for sure, but I guess it is what it is.
The most generous thing I did: Married a #*@%! *#$^%!. The most generous thing she did: Signed the divorce papers.
Whatever you do, don't send any amount to the charities that send you the pre-printed return address labels. I did that, and now I get at 10x the letters I used to. I could run a mail-order business and never have to type or write my return addy on any letters with the amount of return address labels I have.
I don't remember any particular instance. That could mean that I am either a total cheapskate or that I am truly generous.
1) Married a girl from outside the country so she could get her green card. 2) Purposely went to jail to break my brother out, did my best Chris Andersen impression right before. 3) When I broke out I was nice enough to bring 6 more people with my brother and I. 4) Helped a kid break out of another jail down in South America so he could be re-united with his father. 5) Gave my life to end the reign of terror by a group of people controlling the country. Pugs
That's quite all right. I already feel like Mr. Incredible when he's trying to run with the anti-theft sticky things on him.
Gave my Texans jersey to my little brother after I found out the Texans were keeping Kubiak after this past season.

Passed on a raise when I managed a retail store, because I insisted they give one to my employees first.
This isnt about the legitimacy of you committing such an act. Its about throwing out a 100k figure when you didnt have an actual job at the time or a practice you left to help the homeless - where you would be forfeiting real money on the table. In this case, it's imaginary money that wasn't there to begin with. Im not faulting you for helping the homeless, but saying you gave up 100k when you didnt have **** else to do is just lame. On top of that you assume a fresh out of grad school dentist makes $200/hr... which is ridiculously inflated from the median. I could keep my mouth shut and let these things slide, but a regulator does as a regulator did. Just say you helped them out and keep the train moving... I'm not gonna like you more when you throw out a dollar number. Just keepin it real. Sincerely, A generous donor of human services and warmth to those who dont often receive it
He wrote that he provided around $100K of services. He never wrote he gave up that much money. He wrote 3+ months at 40 hours a week so 500 hours could be inferred.I regularly pay $100+ for my 6 month cleaning. It takes about 30 minutes, so my cleaning averages $200/hour. Fillings, crowns, x-rays, etc. cost more, so his $100K of services seems a reasonable estimate.
