This file was taken from a recent post on cc.net....Henry Bekkering from Canada...this guy can leap and dunk. BTW...did anyone else see that 14 year old actually vault himself off of the second guy bending over??? Cheater!!! (you'll need to download to your pc and play in windows media player) http://65.16.178.242/WhiteMenCanJump.wmv
Not only was that dunk awesome, but the reaction of all the US players around the dunk made even that much better.
The best dunk I ever saw was by Mike Conley (an olympic triple jumper). It was in the footlocker slam dunk contest in 1989. He did a two handed free throw line dunk and hung onto the rim. It was a collapsable rim, but it bent anyway because he took it past the spring back point.
Serious ups on a 12' rim, link goes to video: APRIL 1, 2000: During halftime of the NABC All-Star Game, Michael "Wild Thing" Wilson breaks his own world record in the vertical slam dunk by successfully dunking on a 12-foot basket. The event, which took place at Indianapolis' Conseco Fieldhouse, marked the Harlem Globetrotters' first-ever appearance at Final Four Weekend. Wilson's record dunk was captured and televised nationally on Fox Sports Net. http://harlemglobetrotters.com/kids/video.php#dunk
Sorry to burst your bubble, but without stepping on the second guy's back, I don't think that dunk goes in.
Clyde Drexler also dunked on a 12' goal, and a photo of it was published in Sports Illustrated. I dont think it was ever considered "official though" and thus, he is not considered a record holder.
I remember Conley doing dunks from behind the free throw line in one of those competitions. I think he took off a foot behind and still easily had room to spare. He didn't seem like he was exerting himself much. But for me, there is something simply more moving about watching a guy put his rep on the line by deciding in one split second, in-game, to even attempt to hurdle a 7 footer. At that point there's no coming back and everybody's watching you. You either defy gravity and become a legend or you look like a damn idiot when you can't get over the guy. This isn't the best of 3 dunks. Nobody's going to give him a running head start. Fans aren't clapping for him. He has no wind-up. He just decides to do it and explodes. That's what makes Carter stand out to me.
Yeah he stepped on the guys twice. It's pretty cool looking, but it's one of those French guys who do dunking exhibitions. Some of the stuff they do is pretty cool, but he just spun around on those guys backs. Also, this clips has been posted at least 3 times. I'm much more impressed with in game dunks anyway...on people.
that dude should have grabbed Carter and slammed his ass on da ground. it looks like he could have had a hold of Carter's leg.
I was about to post the same thing. You can tell he easily gets an extra "umph" from his foot hitting that 2nd guy's back. He gets points for trying though.
Naw I don't think his feet dragging on one of the guys back helped him stay elevated at all. I think it did help him stay balanced though. There would of been a more noticeable difference like the guy he pushed off of kinda falling closer to the floor or something. Plus at the speed and direction he was moving at, moving up wouldn't of helped him. His foot dragging on that guy's back made no difference at all other then for balancing purposes.
I've read about this before as well, but have never found a picture. I'd love to check that out, Drex could jump out of the gym in his prime.
I have the Sports Illustrated somewhere in my storage. It wasnt a freature story or anything. Just a small mention. All I remember about the photo was that he did it outdoors and judging the hair on his head and the short shorts, it was probably done circle 1985 or so (he was wearing his Blazer uniform in the photo).
You guys are crazy if you think he's using the guy's back for extra elevation! He's already 3/4 of the way through the rotation by the time his foot hits that guy's back. He just straightened out his leg towards the end of the dunk and it ran into the guy's back. Just look at the position of the ball when his foot hit's the guy's back...It's about a foot above the height of the rim. There is simply no physical way he could get any extra elevation in that situation. ...and the rim height...Look at that guy in the white shirt that's walking underneath the backboard. He is a LONG way beneath the rim. Unless he's a midget, the rim height looks legit. It looks like jealousy causes visual distortion.
The dunk clearly would have fell short had he not stepped onto the 2nd guy's back. That kept him elevated, granted it didn't make him go UP, but it did stop him from going down. It also helped him straight himself out, otherwise he might have missed the rim. And yes, Vince Carter's dunk over the 7'2" french guy will forever be the most ridiculous dunk of all time. I do remember seeing some footage of Clyde during the Phi Slama Jama days where he literally could have dunked over the top of the backboard.. or at least that's how high he got the ball on his windmills. Simply amazing.
I don't know what you're smoking, Donny, but pass it this way... I forgot about Carter's dunk in the olympics...OK, this is the SECOND most amazing dunk I've ever seen, but it's still bad ass... Besides, Carter wouldn't have made it over Weiss in the Olympics if he hadn't pushed Weiss's head down with his hand
You obviously need it, cause you must have glaucoma if you can't see the 2nd guy's shirt move as the guy steps on his back.
