"Our country faces unmitigated disaster if the Other Side wins."

But one has been proven to be true.

    This is great!

Having a discussion with an old friend of mine, an Australian. Met him on a project in New Zealand a long time ago. He follows American politics and other news pretty closely, but gets it all from the various mainstream sources, and movies (that part was easy to tell him how farcical a perspective that was...I just asked him if everybody in Australia was just like Crocodile Dundee). We used to have beer and pizza nights on that project where we just sucked down brews and talked about politics and his views on life in America (from afar, although he had visited here several times). We started chatting again recently, and I was just telling him basically how biased pretty much any source he gets his info from is. So, yes, have to send him this immediately! This was great! and scarily accurate! Although MySide, of course, completely denies that...it's all really the OtherSide that does that. ;-)

A simply terrific bump! I'm just sorry that I missed it 8 years ago.

    Kudos, @BigDog63!

Ya, shows how little things have changed, don't it?

Well it shows that conservatives have lost the facts war and many have been so disillusioned by the gaslighting of the GOP and their ego doesn't let them admit they picked a "wrong side" so they cope by saying "well both sides are equally bad anyways".

"Both sides" is a coping mechanism for right wingers with ego issues basically.

It's funny but many of my conservative peers weren't saying this "both sides rhetoric" 5 years ago. It magically happened under Trump at least with my personal anecedotel experience.

I think based on the level of polarization and showcased hostility, it’s has gotten worse since 2012.

You need to get out of your parents basement more often. Lulzz. Or you don’t have any conservative friends and you rely on Reddit to form your opinions.

My anecedotel experience was being in a right wing bubble in Marine infantry and keeping in contact with those who served with me.

Far worse. Regardless of which side of the fence you're on, or if you're a fence sitter, it's much worse. Three years and roughly 8 months of trump, with the relatively solid people he had in some positions starting out either fired, pushed out, resigning in disgust, or passed over for obvious promotions, resulting in them resigning for that reason. One man in particular, to give him the respect he is due, resigned over principle, that being the betrayal of our Kurdish allies by trump. Defense Secretary Mattis is that man, and I was dismayed at his departure.

Mattis was (and still is) furious at the betrayal of our Kurdish allies by trump. As some may remember, they did most of the heavy lifting, and the dying, crushing the Islamic State. trump "thanked them" by pulling out the small military force we had in place that kept the Syrians and Russians on one side, and the Turkish military and their ruthless (and paid) jihadist fighters on the other at bay, creating a safe zone not only for the Kurds, but also for refugees from the Syrian civil war, as well as friendly Syrian forces opposed to Assad. Both sides unwilling to risk the wrath of the US and our European allies by attacking the area. The couple of times they did, they regretted it.

The friendly Kurdish fighters, largely there with their families, were immediately assaulted from all sides after trump ordered the sudden withdrawal. That benefited Russia and Syria immensely, and gave the Turks the chance to attack the Kurds who had helped us. The Turkish government, under trump's friend, Erdogan, sees all of the Kurdish people as essentially terrorists.

So Russia's influence in this critical part of the world went up, and our influence plummeted. Due to trump's actions, inexplicable on the face of it, the United States is now seen in the region as an unreliable ally. A superpower who's word cannot be trusted. That description used to be applied to Russia. Secretary Mattis did the honorable thing. Now trump is surrounded by loyalists and enablers, an historically large number of them in "acting" positions so they don't have to go through Senate confirmation, many unqualified for the positions they hold.

My post isn't in the amusing vein intended by the thread, only because I was replying to your serious comment. It's all your fault!
    ;-)

I don't understand how conservatives can accept the incredible amount of corruption from Trump and yet get upset about an email server.

No, it doesn't, and no it isn't. That you think so just indicates how very true this article is, and what a total example of it you are. There couldn't be a more neutral piece than this, and yet you STILL spin it as conservative mumbo jumbo. Indicating conclusively that the above statement applies much more to you than to those you indictae.

Yes, agree. I could go into why I think that is, but I'll just leave it at 'I agree'.

FWIW...I've been saying that since before this piece was written. Historically, it's always been true. If you look at some of the articles and speeches even from back in the 1800's...divisive political rhetoric is certainly nothing new. All that has really changed, I think, is the internet. There views now get spread instantantly across the globe, and anyone and everyone can contribute. Which just exacerbates group think and confirmation bias. The latter especially. You can hear anything you want now...and most gravitate to hearing what they want to hear, and that gets into their echo chamber and just increases in volume, creating the *appearance* that its correct.

Because visceral reactions hold eyeballs to sell soap. (FAUX, Limbaugh, Alex Jones, Dan Patrick etc.)
