chicken or the egg... MDA had issues utilizing Pau in LA bc of how he wanted things done... I think the 'necessity' of small ball was a convenient excuse to push an already desired agenda... imo... We'll see what Silas can figure out.. I'm betting he will find a way to utilize WB without resorting to some half baked reinventing of the wheel... lol and before I get inundated by the usual suspects for ragging on small ball... yes, small ball can be an advantageous set at various points in a game - but to use it as your only option is stupid... imo... Silas talks about having multiple sets and giving ourselves more options - including small ball... so i'm optimistic..
You are blaming small ball but you should be blaming Westbrook. They never went full small ball before him, they tried staying traditional with him. Morey even said in the past he thinks playing big can be advantage. The numbers were just terrible playing traditional. Westbrook is the problem.
Welp... I'm willing to give Silas a shot at it before passing final judgement on WB... I like the guys energy and love his effort - so I'm open to giving somebody else a shot at figuring out how to make it all work...
3 man Lineup net rating last season Westbrook/Harden/CC(732 minutes) : +1.8 Westbrook/Harden/RoCo(528 minutes): +7.6 Yep. We made the move to maximize lineups with Harden and Westbrook sharing the floor. Just not logistically viable to have a guy like CC who you can generally only play MAYBE 20 minutes a game because he and Westbrookâs negative spacing kills your offensive efficiency. This last years version of small ball was the most extreme and it was clearly necessitated by Westbrook. We were putting up historic offenses prior to his arrival with a traditional big in CC playing 30+ minutes a game.
