why are fortitude and discipline the same?? yes...the rockets have turned me off...but the whole league has really. i loved the nba growing up...it's a shadow of its former self. it doesn't carry the same appeal to me, at all. the current rockets crop lacks desire...hell, even they say that! francis will straight up tell you there's zero leadership and no one seems to give a damn. that's untenable...particularly at $50/ticket. i don't care to spend much on a team that tells me ahead of time they don't care...and most of the regular season in the NBA seems to me to be just waiting around for the playoffs to start. and don't think ticket prices play no influence. if i could get into a rockets game for $12 and still have relatively good seats, i'd do it in a heartbeat.
The Astros were 9th in team K's (batting) and 6th in walks. Not bad compared to the rest of the league.
You're right, they're not the same, but the Astros didn't show much fortitude down the stretch these past two seasons either. Who's their leader?
'I know you are but what am I?' You've really been reduced to a one trick pony these days, AB. Whining about racial 'inequality' to bait Jorge. The thing is, people actually like the Trader_Whore also. Your credibility on race matters is non-existant after the thread about the Astros. You seriously said you couldn't support them because they didn't have African-Americans on their roster. Well how do you think Asians feel about watching football, basketball, etc.? Please stop with all of the equality bs. There is no need for more black sportscasters. If there are black announcers out there that are better than the current announcers, they will get the jobs based on that merit. If not, then we won't be seeing a change. Period. It's bad enough that the NFL forces teams to interview black coaches.
agreed...they came up a game short last season...and can't remember how far back the season before. but if you're asking me to compare that to the rockets' effort...there is little comparison.
Okay, I know its no point of arguing who you think is trying harder, but one team came up one game short in the weakest division with two hall of famers and one team came up short in the hardest conference with no true "All Star" big man in a conference dominated by all star big men. And who isn't trying hard?
If only we could have gotten something offered for sale or some site feedback in this thread... I think every other forum has been covered.
so one permanent black person on the radio is over-representation? I think the AB was point out that their are NONE not that there should be an OVER ABUNDANCE OF . . . Rocket River
...and my point was that there are not NONE, but in fact two that I can think of off the top of my head -- Dukes and Cooper.
again...listen to steve himself...he tells you they're disinterested...that they have no passion...that they lack leadership. he's saying that...i don't have to, though i can see it. it's clear when you watch them play. we know what they're capable of, because we watch them beat good teams...but then they fall apart and lack concentration. again...francis comes out and flat out admits that. i don't get that from the 'stros at all...their problem is they try too hard...they grip...they don't relax. they don't "be the ball!" but i don't think anyone could accuse the astros of not trying...or of playing below their talent...they took the cubs, with a superior pitching staff and free agent acquisitions, down to the last game of the season. the same cubs who ended up losing in game 7 of the NLCS.
how about this morning's Chronicle for starters? http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/2341929 "It was a lack of intensity as a team," Rockets guard Steve Francis said. "A couple players played hard. One or two players can't do it. You have to have eight, nine, 10 players in a rotation play hard" Van Gundy says it just about every day...it's not like this is a new criticism of this current bunch. "That's the difference between being a great team and an average team in this league, game in and game out bringing it," Jackson said. "Some nights you're not going to shoot well, but the intensity still has to be there." i'll pay to watch a very untalented team work their ass off and overachieve...but i won't pay...money or attention...to a team that recognizes over and over again that they don't play with intensity, and does nothing about it. it's been that way for nearly 4 years now.
So the Astros have never lost games because of lack of concentration or intesity? Do you really believe that?
