I don't have a problem with your analogy, but if we get Howard or another second star to go with Harden, and Lin still averages 17/8 after a full season next year, where would that put him in your mind? He could do that and still be at best the third best player on our team next year. We need another 20 point scorer that can also defend/rebound next year if we want to contend...or the year after...whenever it is.
IMHO, it's all mental. He just need to be confidence and aggressive all the time. No reason he can't be a consistent 16/6 guy with good efficiency.
Third option in terms of points made, but that doesn't necessarily mean the person is third in his importance to the team, although he very well could be. That said, having a third highest scorer that average 17 PPG is going to make the team very good.
I would be happy if Lin average 17/8 and be the third best player on the team, because that mean the team is going to the finals.
What we are talking about is *top tier* point guards. 17/8 put you at around No.5/No.6/No.7 in the league in the point guard position stat wise, in the regular season. But the problem is, the No.1/No.2/No.3 points guard guys' teams are unlikely to win a championship. This is what I perceived as statistically proven, unless your name is Magic Johnson, but Magic is more of a LeBron James type of complete package player, not a PG in traditional sense. If you define *top tier* point guard being the top 3 point guard stat wise, then it is meaningless since those guys are not likely to win. What 17/8 while being third option mean is, the player could put up top tier numbers in a lesser team, but can win in a great team.
Russell Westbrook and Tony Parker are both championship calibre, problem for everyone though is this guy called Lebron.
So keeping it real means bashing and labeling people who don't agree with you? Well then tinman, you sir have earned my respect. I wish I could polish your shoes
REPed, Rockets are a good PF away from deep playoffs run next year, people just need to chill and be a little patient.
It's funny how we can make comments like "Lin's a scrub, he went undrafted, he sucks." But god forbid making a comparison to an NBA player and all hell breaks loose. I don't even bother defending Lin anymore because I know it just adds fire to the flame. The only person whose ever going to change the mind of the critics is Lin himself. He doesn't need me or any other person to fight his battles for him, and I know pointless arguing over the internet isn't going to solve anything. So, from this, I like the comparison. Jeremy Lin is getting paid to be a decent PG in the league and he's putting up the numbers as his first full season as a starter. I can't wait for next year after a good off-season of development. Go Jeremy Lin, go Houston Rockets!
What some might not understand is that Conley is playing at a PG position and Lin is playing at a SG position.. Also, coaching is a huge factor as well. Plus who can really suck when you have Gasol, Randolph, and even Tony Allen on your team? Those guys can finish, set nice pick and roll plays, etc. They are making OKC look like Rockets in the semifinals.
Actually I do need to get my shoes cleaned. you know those leather wipes you use for your car also work well on loafers.
Just saw that Zach Lowe posted this today ob Grantland about Conley. Good read if you have a few minutes. Thought it was relevant in a way. http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id...-mike-conley-jr-memphis-grizzlies-point-guard
Is George Hill even a PG anymore? He averages so few assists for a PG, and these playoffs, it seems as though Paul George gets most of the team's assists.
Most important stat for Lin to work on IMO is his 3pt%. If he can get to 35-38% we will become scary good. Add an all star PF and there's your top 4 seed in the west. Add a superstar PF or C and we become title contenders.
