TECATE. From a can, in a cup. You can get a case at Sam's for like 13 bucks. Cheap and good, can't beat that. Drinking one right now, actually.
Right on! Plus Corona is too sweet. Anyone remember when these shirts were cool? My buddy in high school sliked screened his own version, changing the "Corona" to "Schaffer". Dude was funny.
My Dad's been in the food business for nearly 40 years and he's done a lot of business in Mexico. He's told me adamantly for years not to ever drink Corona. To this day, I've listened to him.
Can you even get Corona in Mexico? I'm convinced that Corona's popularity has to do with their good marketing strategy, not the actual taste of the beer. I like XX Lager myself, anyone ever had it on ice, very tasty.
Just got off the phone with him. I guess I remember him telling worse stories about it than he did. He just said whenever he was down there, the only people who were drinking Corona were the peasants working in the fields. He never saw anyone other than them drinking Corona. Wow, kinda snobby.
Actually in Mexico, they have or had a beer called "corona de barril". It is a relatively common relatively inexpensive Mexican beer. It isn't like the Corona stuff that the yuppies made popular. I'm on my way to an Indian restaurant. I guess now I'm going to have to have a beer. Kingfisher?
Corona sucks. Tecate is ok if you are going some place that will only allow cans. Dos Equis is decent. Pacifico is a VERY close second.... Negra Modelo is primo by far. Just a rich taste that bodes well with a lime I love it!
all Mexican beers require an excuse for why you are drinking them. "They are good with a yuppie, and are cheap, in a can, at the beach, in a cup, with chips, and a lime, and a red fish, or a blue fish."
well, i'm drinking a Tecate right now, for the "in a can" excuse. Heading out to the park with the dogs, on a lease, with water, and limes, in no hurry, under the sun, with shades, and a big hat.
For the first time ever I agree with Samuel Fisher and Rocketman Tex on something. I prefer Pacifico to all other Mexican beers. Although for some reason, whenever I drink a Corona with lime I feel like I am on vacation, so that's good, but not really related to the quality of its taste. glynch, you may know this, but a "barril" you spoke about just means a keg, so perhaps you were talking about drinking Corona out of a keg instead of a bottle. When I worked in Mexico, the Negra Modelo seemed to be the beer of choice of the executives when we went out for a nice meal. Sol/Corona was more the working man's brew. !Traeme otra cerveza, pinche puta!"
i just got back from mexico and in zacatecas corona seemed to be the beer of choice, even for locals. regional preferece i suppose. i would have to go with tecate in the can. bottled tecate looses something though. the aluminum gives it that special taste that other beers seem to lack. pacifico is good... carta blanca... negro modello...
See....like I've posted before...if you hang around this BBS long enough you will find something to agree on with everyone!
Victoria is a great Mexican Beer...I also like Sol y CB... In Mexico City, I order one of the above via a Micho Helada (lime juice, ice and salt on the rim)...The best... However, when I tried it at Pappasitos, they did it with tomato juice and some powdery red stuff, which sucked...
Dos Equis is what my father drinks, and that is kinda like an endorsement deal that makes it the official beer of the family. Apparently, other beers made by the same company are also acceptable, but I can never remember which ones those are.
