I imagine he will go back to Atlanta for one more year, or retire.

couldnt the same be said for anyone outside of "Red Sox Nation"?

I think your analogy works for the Mets, but not the Yankees. of course I am biased as well... but in NY the Mets are the underdogs, always will be...

of course people outside NY like the Yankees. when I was in elementary school, during the height of baseball card trading, the Bash Brothers, the battle of the Bay etc, the Yankees were a losing team. yet almost every kid HAD to have a Yankees hat, and we are talking all over suburban America...

Great minds think alike. 100% agree. With the Mets out of the picture, I'm OK with any of the National League teams.

You guys won't see me here if the Cubs win the WS. Because I'll be dead.

If my Sox can't make it to the WS, I will be rooting like hell for the Indians to make it. As a matter of fact, here are my favorites:

    American League
    1 - Boston
    2 - Cleveland
    3 - LA Angels
    4 - Yankees

    National League
    1 - Philly
    2 - Rockies/Padres Winner
    3 - Arizona
    4 - Cubs

    Overall
    1 - Boston
    2 - Cleveland
    3 - Philly
4 - Whoever is playing the Yankees (maybe that should be #1 overall :D :D )

Boo f***ing hoo. A team with a $116 million dollar payroll choked down the stretch and couldn't qualify for the playoffs. What a tragedy.

Try rooting for a team with a $30-40 million dollar payroll every year that hasn't had a winning season since 1992 when Bonds left.

....and to think, there's probably some people out there that think baseball hasn't been ruined by teams like the Yankees, Bosox, Mets, etc.

Is there anything funnier in baseball then when the Yankees and the Bosox players pour champagne on each other every year after qualifying for the playoffs?

I don't understand it. You qualified for the playoffs. So what? I don't think any team should celebrate anything until at least winning the LCS. Champagne for the Wild Card? How lame is that?

If I pull for anyone, it will be the Phillies (I was born there) and Indians (my wife was born there).

    seriously?? in baseball??

these guys play 162 games to try to qualify to be one of the 6 teams out of 30 that get to play in the playoffs. qualifying for the playoffs in baseball actually means something.

8 teams make the playoffs in baseball last time I checked..

and come on, every team in every sport celebrates a playoff berth, whether they are the wild card or the 8th seed regardless of sport, league, or playoff positioning...

you guys with the hatred for the big-market teams are hilarious...

any team that collapses like the Mets deserves the ridicule... but teams like this seasons Yankees worked their asses off from many games out of contention, many games below .500 to get to where they are...

you have to give credit to these teams..same thing goes for the '04 Red Sox. do I like the Red Sox? no
do they '04 Red Sox deserve the credit? absolutely, they defied all odds to get to the World Series and win it all..

same thing goes for my theory on last year's Cardinals...

according to this link and the Rockies website the game will be on TBS at 6:30 CST

All the chips down for Padres, Rockies

"The one-game tiebreaker will be played on Monday at Coors Field beginning at 5:37 p.m. MT and will be carried live on TBS. The winner will play the Phillies in an NL Division Series beginning on Wednesday in Philadelphia. The Padres saved Cy Young favorite Jake Peavy (19-6) to face Colorado's Josh Fogg (10-9) in a battle of right-handers."
