What exactly do you think we need to do about this issue? Heightened awareness is not enough. I have alot of concerns about the field already. I am also concerned with misdiagnosis, tracking etc. You get hit with a syndrome in 1st grade and it can determine the rest of your life. In my community we have a high level of concern that various things being put in your permanent file shapes the teacher interactions with kids for the rest of their school career. These interactions shape the outcomes of these kids. So . . . one mistake early could be brutal. I am sure many will come here with your snide remarks about how I am part of the problem. However, this is your thread to 'educate' me. My position is that I think we are overmedicating our kids when conversation and discipline would do. I think medication should be the last resort not the first. I think we too quick to put kids on some kind of pharmaceutical routine. Esp considering their changing bodies, hormones etc. This is not to say it is not necessary in some cases . . but I don't think it is necessary in all cases. You can be snide .. or you can try to have a real conversation . . . it is your choice of course Rocket River
