That was basically my reading of it...except that I think at can work with Neo as a Christ figure... I like the parrallel between Paul (with the blindness)...because it is Paul who says that we must all become Coredeemers/Coworkers in Christ...as if Neo must enter in to this union with Christ...to save humanity....a message for all, probably not what they were going for but what they should have gone for...
Who gives a crap what it was supposed to represent. It still wouldnt make the movie any better. You can argue about who was John and Paul and Mikey and everyone else but that still isnt going to change the fact that Revolutions sucked. I never thought about the theological parallel before and I dont care to afterwards. It sounds like there are a bunch of people trying to rationalize why this movie was a big pile of poo poo. I wanted ass kicking and action and more ass kicking and a cool story line. Not Neo dying and links to Christ and 45 minutes of MechWarriors shooting Sentinals. Bottom Line = Revolutions is a bad bad movie.
I think all moviegoers would have better off if Reloaded and Revolutions were not made and we could have just imagined and longed for an ending, for almost the same reasons that Star Wars episode 1,2, and 3 should never have been made. I am still puzzled why one would make a linear movie ( a non Memento/Pulp Fiction) about something where all the good parts could be summed up in a few flashbacks and the rest of the stuff was already predetermined because of episodes 4,5 and 6.
Next to the Christ/Biblicical/Theolgy blah blah blah, has anyone else noticed a resemblence to Franklin Herberts Dune? In dune, humans once had a great battle against the machines, in which they won and forbid any computing devices afterwards that could think on its own. In the Dune saga, they make references to Earth, but never state really what happened. The Matrix reflects the humans destroying the world. Also in the Dune, i believe the once mentioned a "great one" or "messaih" or something that once existed and would come about again. Much like Paul Attrides at the end of Dune, he too was blinded, but could see. It would be neat for the wachawski bro and brian anderson work together and perhaps bring these two series together to connect the two saga's.
I think the Matrix borrowed from the Dune saga, but I'm not sure if it's fair to compare the two. Unlike Matrix, Dune has substance. I wouldn't want the Wachowski's anywhere near Dune. I can barely stand Frank's son writing the final Dune book.
I can't remember any references to Earth besides a small excerpt from God Emperor... "Our ancestor, Assur-nasir-apli, who was known as the cruelest of the cruel, seized the throne by slaying his own father and starting the reign of the sword. His conquests included the Urumia Lake region, which led him to Commagene and Khabur. His son received tribute from the Shuites, from Tyre, Sidon, Gebel and even from Jehu, son of Omri, whose very name struck terror in thousands. The conquests which began with Assur-nasir-apli carried arms into Media and later into Israel, Damascus, Edorn, Arpad, Babylon and Umlias. Does anyone remember these names and places now? I have given you enough clues: Try to name the planet. --The Stolen Journals" Is that what you're talking about?
Um, nomar, half of the Butlerian Jihad takes place on Earth. You know, the book written by Brian Herbert? I think they call it Omnius-Earth or something like that in the book. Remember... ------- SPOILER ------- ... Serena Butler is captured on Geidi Prime and taken to Earth to serve Erasmus. After the uprising, the Titans well... kill a lot of people on Earth... Anyway, back to the Matrix...
