*****Spoiler****** I liked it, despite its resemblence to a dragon ball z episode. So, mimicking the catholic trinity, you have riding in a hovercraft, Logos (son), the One (figure it out), and Trinity. In an act of love, the One enters the matrix in the form of one that would be in the matrix. Around his 30th year, he starts his ministry, his fight against evil. So yes, the lines were cheesy. Yes they focused to much on the lesbian shooter and the other girl no one cared about. But, for a Christian trilogy, which this was, that was the way it must be, caring about all... Not excactly high realism, but then again I don't think that was what it was meant to be. It works as an allegory, even though they don't get everything perfect (The Trinity dying so that the one can live? Is this some sort of Unitarian Christianity being preached? ) All in all, the three movies make sense to me, and no there will not be a fourth. The first one was about faith, the second hope, and the third love. The three theological virtues of the church. Oh, and can it be said that Neo teaches the machines to love? IS that what they were going for there...? IS that why they strike a peace accord and agree to live together? Or where does this peace come from...? I don't know.
Anyone notice that at the end of Reloaded it said "To be concluded." But at the end of Revolutions, nothing came up on the screen? Of course it doesn't mean much, but you could read a little into it. Also it seemed to me that the final two movies were written as one, but conveniently split into two. Hear me out: the brothers write a sequel to The Matrix, the estimated running time is about 3 hours. So they split it in two, and fill the gaps with special effects and cheesy dialogue. That seems like what they did.
Oh yeah, and Seraph should have fought a lot more. I was still hoping to see Seraph come and team up with Neo against Smith at the end. That would have salvaged the entire movie.
****Spoilers**** I enjoyed the movie, but I took the ending to be different than most of you. Remember how Smith calls the Oracle Mom? The way that I think it works is that the Oracle created the virus Smith in order to create a problem that the machines would need a human's help to solve. Sure the Oracle says that the Architect created Smith, but she only tells you what you need to hear, remember? When Neo allowed Smith to "infect" him (please, he's just going to stop fighting?), he's effectively allowing the machines to watch how he is infected, find the virus code, and create an antivirus program which is then uploaded through him to delete the virus. Whatever happened, from the machines actions when Neo was infected, I took it to mean that the machines actually killed Smith, not Neo. What I didn't understand in the movie had mostly to do with "Merv." Who exactly he and his associates are, I still don't know, and if he wants to kill, delete, whatever the Oracle, why does a program that he smuggled out of the machine world end up keeping the Oracle company? Was he actually helping the Oracle and just testing Morpheus and the others? I don't know. Trinity did take forever to die, I didn't understand that one at all. Still don't really understand who that kid's supposed to be. I was really hoping though that when he was yelling that the war was over that a sentinel would suddenly come out of the tunnel and kill him. I liked having an explanation for the actor change.
Because Star Wars never took itself seriously as a sci-fi. Matrix was supposed to be more intense and serious as a sci-fi. Somehow unintended cheese and hokeyness comes off worse to me. I agree Stars Wars was light weight in terms of writing, but the epic drama and build up that made it most entertaining was lacking in the last Matrix. This was my interpretation as well. It was all part of the Oracle's grand scheme to prove it was good to keep humans around. Agreed, he says he wants "her eyes" but no explanation is given. e.g., he wants her dead/delected, he wants her vision of the future, etc). Hollywood. Got to try to work in the tears, poor baby, that Neo. When you said kid I thought you meant the little girl. Is the little girl the next Neo? But the little girl is a program, just like Smith, Oracle, yada yada, yet Neo--the anti Smith is a human who is limitless in dealing with programs both in the simulated Matrix world, and real world, but except of course this doofus' "train man" simulated world. Just sloppy. All I can say is enjoy it for the action. If you enjoy the occasional either totally obtuse philosophical reference or the beat you head over it obvious religious reference mixed in so be it. IMO the first one was so much tighter, more clever & thought provoking
EVERYBODY here has to see aniMATRIX it explains tons of the sidestories and is just a short little 1 - 1.5 hour animation video. it's done pretty damn good too. This kid was part of the matrix - and neo inspired him to find himself and he freed his mind from the matrix and into becoming a free person living in reality, rather than simply being a coppertop for the system. The agents chased after him in school, he got away and jumped off a building plummeting to his death, but he knew that this wasn't his death, this simply demonstrated him finding his freedom and that he was not confined nor limited to life in the matrix as he perceived it. That is why in Matrix 2 he is there with Neo and so thankful...and i believe Neo said something like "you did it yourself" in the second movie. This is why the kid has so much importance. now everybody - go rent aniMATRIX.
Whoa, i think you missed something. The bad guys were on the ceiling! man, that just blew my mind, it's like the turned the camera upside down or something!
That's ridiculous if I have to pay to see a side project like The Animatrix in order to understand what happens in The Matrix trilogy. Look, the Wachowskis can have all the spinoffs and expanded universe crap they want, but the movies have to tell a complete coherent story. I swear, Lucas better not be pulling the same stunt with the Clone Wars cartoons and Episode III. I refuse to sit through a bunch of animated shorts just so I can better comprehend what goes down in the next film.
I'm not sure where you got the idea that SW never took itself seriously. Never once did the any of the movies really seem to be self-aware in any way to scream out 'cheese' purposely. It's just bad writing, period. Lucas isn't exactly one to go easy and loose on his storylines. Need proof? Look at the new trilogy. All his handiwork, and I never get the impression the movies are going for 'cheesiness' on purpose. VERY little of the cheese or hokeyness is intended in SW. It just comes off that way. And the only time I saw 'epic drama' was in ESB. (one of the greatest movies ever)
Just home from the 5:00 at the Edwards (out to eat too) What a pompus Bag O' Crap that was. First of all, everbody knows you've got to have an action sequence to open an action movie. Have The Brothers never seen Star Wars or James Bond? It opened with such a lull I was instantly bored. God, computer's, messiah's, self replicating and rouge programs, Hinduism , The Holy Trinity, freedom of choice, the meaning of life...did we fail to ponder any of man's philisphicol questions? The wives hated it. But since I was stoned immaculate atleast I could close my eyes and trip out on the surround sound. Wagnerian opera never sounded better. But then during the love scenes (all dialog, no action) I fell asleep. I do love Smith though. The Character has terrific dialog and Hugo Weaving is freaking Smith. It might have been a good movie if they had edited down a half hour or so.
I'll admit it. Every time they showed the frenchman and persephone, all I was concentrating on was the bottom right hand corner of the screen. Thank you God. When the indian couple said they were in the IT profession, I was SHOCKED!
Neo didn't fail. He did exactly what he knew he was supposed to do. He realized that he could not beat him physically, so he let Smith infect him thereby connecting Smith to the Source, allowing the Source to deletle/destroy him (if you remember, Neo is connected to the Source). And the Matrix wasn't "restarted." Basically it'll continue as is, and whoever wants to be freed will be allowed to go free. I think you have to look at this way....Reloaded talked about how man and machine need each other to survive, they have to coexist. Yet, both are trying to kill the other, and neither realize that the only way to win is to not fight (hence, why Neo let Smith infect him). But the Oracle saying to the girl that they'll see Neo again is beyond me...since they're just programs and he is human. But all in all, I absolutely loved the film! The first 20min or so seemed to drag a little, somewhat confusing, and somewhat forced (why did they have to make an excuse for the Oracle being another person?) But everything else, brilliant, it was EXACTLY what I was expecting (maybe cause I already knew most of this one was gonna be in the "real world". Which kinda startles me as to why so many hated it. I loved both the 2nd and 3rd just bout as much as the 1st, probably cause neither retreads the same path as the first. All three are radically different from one another, yet still are linked by the same concepts, theories and style, which is what makes this whole trilogy special. And if you happen to watch the Animatrix (specifically the Second Renaissance parts I and II and to a lesser extent Flight of the Osiris and The Kid, it makes the 2nd and 3rd films that much more enjoyable). Maybe it's because I LOVE sci-fi, maybe it's cause I love big, explosive fx laden action, maybe it's because I loved the fact that the 2nd one (and beginning of the 3rd) confused the hell outa of me....probably it's a combination of all that...but I just love the whole Matrix universe and am kinda sad to see it all end.
for friggin real! monica's bellucis looked a lot bigger in this one. i was just thinking how the f*** are they staying in there. so beautiful. as for the movie, i was definitely let down. entertained, but let down. reloaded>matrix>revolutions for me. reloaded i went in extremely hyped up and was just blown away. this i came out of let down. yes, where was the action scene to open the movie!!!! i couldn't believe it opened so mundanely. actually, where was the action for the first hour? i wanted fight scenes, fight scenes, some cool revelations architect-speech style, and them more fighting. and not the shoot 4 bazillion sentinel type fighting either. i mean those action sequences were great and needed, but they could have been majorly shortened. work in some more martial arts. i love all the martial arts fighting from the first two. did we ever get to see neo be neo except for the agent smith fight? i loved watching everyone kick ass in their black suits in the matrix. i got so little of it. and agent smith basically only came in at the end, which disappointed me. the human smith actor, though did do one hell of a job on the voice. i almost thought weaving was talking for him a few times. trinity died slowly i guess b/c the spikes didn't look like they went right through her heart. i mean in real life people get shot and die immediately while others may get shot multiple times and hang on or even survive. the love scene was too long but she has to have some sort of going away scene. was actually surprised she died. i thought others would, but not her. and of course neo couldn't save her b/c this was real life. neo and trinity were saved in the matrix b/c that's just your mind plugged into something and trinity saved neo by telling his real mind she loved him and she had to love the one and neo saved her b/c he is the one and he could pretty much do anything he wanted inside the matrix. so the oracle is agent smith's mom b/c she created him, not b/c she's the mother of the matrix? why was she there at the end with the architect. if she's not the mother of the whole thing, who is and where is she at the end? why did they redo the lobby scene? the merovingian seemed to easy to convince and/or too easy to get a gun to his head. he was like i want her eyes or you don't get neo. fast forward 15 seconds and trinity gets a gun and points it at him and neo is their's. did he just count on his guards too much? i was actually thinking the kid would get killed as he was announcing the war was over. he just seemed too happy and too out in the open. damn shame. could that one captain (the one the kid took over for) have been shown screaming any more times? that gash on his face was nasty though. i thought the old council guy was sinister too. apparently not. that god-like machine face thing. very cool. neo not actually beating smith, not very cool. why did smith get so confused at the end? did the oracle just start taking him over and was just waiting until that moment to do so? did he panic when victory was upon him. "you can't see beyond those choices you don't understand" - did he have a choice to make in that instance but didn't understand it and thus couldn't see himself killing neo? am i just stupid? could they have just put the highway chase scene into this movie again? i thought i was going to have to clean myself up after the first time i saw it. sorry for the nostalgia. Could the other jerk captain take the lord's name in vain a couple more times. wow what an jackass. i swear after about the 4th time he did it i was thinking of that football coach in "not another teen movie." anyone else thinking that? it seemed so forced. and did we have to drool all over niobi's driving the entire time? outside of all those complaints, it was still kinda cool and while way too much was left open (especially why the machine's accepted peace or why humanity will accept essentially the same life they've been trying to escape (though the oracle did say she wasn't sure how long it would last)) i liked it. not a lot, but still liked it. nothing could ever ruin reloaded for me though. god i loved that movie.
You know my whole take on why would the humans in the real world just accept the fact that the machines are gonna continue to manufacture humans and insert them into the Matrix thinkin everything's fine. Well if you think about it, (like Cypher) not everybody is gonna want to come out of the Matrix. Not everybody would want to be freed. But the ones that do, will be allowed (like the architect said). It's all about achieving the right amount of balance in the system.
but then what have morpheus and all the rest been fighting for for so long? it does seem like ending the war has become a bigger goal, but freeing everybody from the matrix always seemed like their ultimate goal. aside from the fact the machines could kick their ass, why would they accept just leaving 99$ plugged in or whatever percent accept the program from the architect's speech. as for the machine's, what their incentive? i thought the whole point of destroying zion was b/c too many people leaving eventually proved to be a problem, thus necessitating the destruction of zion and the restarting of the matrix.
Well, I think the main reason for annihilating Zion and its people was because the humans were hell bent on destroying the matrix and freeing all mankind. So if the humans truly live up to their promise to keep peace, then having a larger and larger city of Zion really shouldn't cause a problem. It was the anomaly of Neo that they had difficulty with, and I guess that was solved with the destruction of Agent Smith and Neo's apparent (?) death in that vein. What I don't understand is why the machines would be willing to accept this peace treaty when it seemed to me it would have been so much easier for them to ensure their survival and go ahead and finish off Zion while they were there. In fact, the whole array of battle tactics the sentinels exhibited in the Dock was pretty pathetic. As many sentinels as there were, you would think they could have spread out a bit more and come at the human gun machines from different angles so as to become more difficult targets. That whole battle could easily have been won by machines as advanced as those, had they been really using real battle tactics. Just way to unbelievable to me. It just all seems way too hard to swallow. All the sudden, in the end, they start introducing these ideas that the machines can be reasoned with and might even have something akin to feelings (which was pretty preposterous to me considering how the first two movies fell in to place). Whoever made the observation that it seemed like the Wach Bros wrote a script for a 2nd movie, realized it was too long and split it into 2 movies with lots and lots of filler and stretched ideas sounded spot on. That was exactly the kind of impression I got from this movie.
Yeah I feel the same. I think 1 and 2 were great and 3 was just a big letdown. Not as much action and it didn't make you think like the first two did. I don't like the answers to a lot of the questions either. For example, Neo couldn't do it before because he wasn't ready to yet...yeah okay he'll just figure out how to stop machines all the sudden. I originally said Neo failed, while he didn't fail, he didn't beat Smith by kicking his ass and clearly winning either. Yes, he couldn't because they are equal, but I wanted to see Neo find an actual way of beating him besides letting Smith take him over.
