******* spoiler *********** the coke was really watered down, and the guy next to me breathed more loudly through his nose than I thought was humanly possible.
****** REAL SPOILER ********* First of all, loved the movie. For people who like to watch movies and take everything literally, this movie isn't for you. Yes, the religious symbolism is striking. Neo dies at the end of the first movie only to come back and save the world. He gives his life while doing so. I thought the end was awesome. When Smith said "Every beginning has an end" Neo knew that the Oracle had some control over Smith since this is the same thing she said to Neo previously. Also, Smith had some funny feeling that he knew exactly what he was supposed to do(sounds like the oracle). Neo let Smith take over his body, used the power of the source to destroy Smith and it was over. The battle of Zion was awesome. The drill machines were nasty SOBs. Anyhow, back to my english paper.. im sure as more people see the movie we'll have more discussion.
Dissappointed. Matrix > Reloaded > Revolutions--less substance and intriuge as the series went on. Also there is a difference between Star Wars cheese and Matrix cheese. Star Wars cheese is intended as such so you don't take everything too seriously, the Matrix cheese was not intended. Some other points; the Oracle changed actress because the 1st actress died. But I agree it was weak how they tried to integrate this. Overall I just think too much of it is hokey. **********spoiler**********Smith is the anti-Neo yet is a program writing by the Orcale. Yet it is not clear if Neo is a program or person or in between. Regardless he doesn't seem just a program as Smith is, as he has a body in the "real world" where as Smith has to take over another body--so how the hell is Smith the negative version of Neo? They both should be diametrically opposed persons, programs or hybrids--and none of that fits with the movie. Sloppy thinking. I guess you could call the 3rd movie somewhat a victum of the others. 1st one was groudbreaking action wise and intellectual wise. 2nd one was very good too. This one as far as sci-fi and creative ideas was about as far along as T3. The action is great--but there was so much more potential. A lot more really creative ideas came from this BBS if I remember a) there is really 2 matrices and the "real world" really was just a spill over and humans were still struck, or b) (this one I really like) Mankind actually created the matrix because that was the only way they knew we could keep perpetual human life (and what a nice simulated life it could be) because humans would eventually blow ourselves up otherwise. These ending would have been a lot darker and more depressing--but far more interesting too. i am sure many of us can think of a lot better themes/twists/endings than those guys pulled off. In summary, looking forward to LTR3 and KB2 I think both will be much better. IMO the LTR series has the best chance to me this generations Star Wars of any movies I have seen recently--lets hope they finish strong.
This is the inequality that the hard core Matrix fans don't want to admit. It simply got really terrible in the last two movies, progressively. And as DonnyMost has said, this trilogy will not compete with the greats, although it could have if the following movies had compared with the first.
Did the battle at Zion fail to stir any of your emotions? Played-out disaster flick formula aside, this is one of the few films where you actually feel for the characters... If not, than me suspects you lack a soul. There are numerous explanation theories floating around all over the web. Go read those and perhaps you'll feel better. No guarantees though, can't please everyone... As for the little tin god Lucas, the Wachowskis just took him over their knee and finger-****ed him. The truth will set you free.
The battle at Zion was the ultimate cheeseburger! Those chicks shooting that bazooka at a huge mechanical beast that in reality shouldn't even feel the homemade rounds.... And how the commander's robot was taken over by the boy who was admitted too young.... just so predictable and cheesy... What about the other thousand people defending the city - you never even see them. You know I love you Anti but we definitely disagree on this one... guess we need to start a D&D thread...
Perhaps. It'd go back and forth forever though as this is complete subjective, but I do have faith that time will be kind to the trilogy and when made available at once, more things will fall together. By the way, I hope the excessive tongue-flashing in the above post was enough to mark it's silliness. I fear the backlash of Star Wars groupies now.
Disagree, the characters did not build much emotion from me. In contract to LTR, Star Wars, good war movies, just not epic. Great special effects--but characters, acting, suspense, plot, plot twists--majorly lacking. I am sure there are some creative guys on the web who can string together some sense of coherence, storyline creativity & intrigue to it--unfortunately they should have been employed in writing the script and making this movie. Just my opinion. Matrix 1 was great, II was good, but there wasn't anything special about Revolutions. It will at best the the Empire Strikes Back, Phantom Menence, or T3--the weak little sister to some strong series of movies. I admit Lucus isn't the most creative fella either--but he is a hell of a lot better at building drama, same with Q (difference genre, but still).
BTW why the hell would those guys in those Aliens-take off robotic fighting machines not have shields in front of their faces & bodies. That is like having a tank like vehicle but forgetting a turrant to keep any ole opponents shots out. Senseless.
***spoiler*** (if you couldn't figure it out by now) More questions than answers: The Architect is also just a program...like the Oracle? If Smith is a virus taking over the Matrix by assimilating bodies, what do the machines care? Aren't the physical bodies still making energy. If they are, why would the machines want to strike a deal w/ Neo? If they aren't, how is that explained? Why would a machine honor a promise anyways? Why would the humans be satisifed simple w/ peace when their whole reason for survival is to free humanity. Isn't humanity still enslaved? The master machine at the end sure was playing a 'god' like role with the obvious Christ symbolism that is Neo. Neo is carried off into the bright lights which are the machines. This makes some sense since the machines certainly are God within the Matrix itself. But everything up to that point leads you to beleive the machines are the ultimate evil...not the ultimate savior. I can deal w/ a paradox but damn... The whole train thing was rather forced. I don't quite understand how Neo killed Smith. It's kinda magical. I guess that is called artisic license. I also don't really understand how Neo has special powers in the physical world. But if he is actually supposed to be JC, then I guess I'm not meant to understand this because my human mind is too feeble. Which this leaves some fundamental/philosphical flaws with the movie. But I'll leave this point alone. I've got more issues but that's all for now. BTW, I still liked the movie but I'm left unsatisifed. I hope their is a 4th to answer some of the freakin questions left open.
They were going on the premises that only humans lie about promises. It was sorta a low blow to society today where everything is to get whatever you can get no matter what the cost. Why would the humans be satisifed simple w/ peace when their whole reason for survival is to free humanity. Isn't humanity still enslaved? humans are the reason why this whole thing happened. if you have watched "animatrix" it explains ALOT. humans created the machines for their own good. they treated the machines like slaves and crap. this was kinda the backlash. i think humans feel great to have a two-sided agreement on peace. I can deal w/ a paradox but damn... realize that the humans created the machines in the first place. after treating them as slaves, they revolted and went their way - with a general hate for the humans. the machines are not the "evil"...in fact, this was simply retaliation. but yeah, you bring up some good points...i'm sure their is an explanation to the rest. I also don't really understand how Neo has special powers in the physical world. But if he is actually supposed to be JC, then I guess I'm not meant to understand this because my human mind is too feeble. Which this leaves some fundamental/philosphical flaws with the movie. But I'll leave this point alone. i was wondering how agent smith was so strong in the human world...never really thought about neo - but that's probably a good point. Again, there probably is some sort of explanation for this as well.
Whoa. Hold on a minute, don't compare Empire Strikes Back with that other crap. Empire Strikes Back is a classic, arguably the best in the triology. It left fans with multiple cliff-hangers and unlike Matrix Revolutions, Return of the Jedi answered them.
Seriously, if you compare Star Wars to this crap you are demented shame on you... And I am not talking about the new gay star wars... I am talking Han Solo, Luke, Chew Baca, Jaba the Hut....
LOL. It's funny to see Star Wars fans try and bash cheese and poor writing in other sci-fi movies. (No offense guys, I like SW too...I just can't grasp the double standard) Anyhow...SPOILERS I still think the first one is the best. I guess I was expecting a 'big twist', so was a little disapointed in the ending. At the very least, I was hoping Neo would get in the city and kick a lot of ass. Still, the Dock battle and the final fight were incredible. Bring on SUPERMAN and DRAGONBALL Z flicks.
Dude do not defend SW if you cannot spell the characters names. You are treading on holy territory here. FWIW I appreciated The Matrix trilogy as much as I have enjoyed any film or set of films ever. SW is special to me because I was introduced to it as a child and it grew with and within me. It simply 'became' what fantasy is to me now as a (barely) 30 year old dude. Every science fiction and fantasy flick is compared to those movies by me and my generation. Some may be better, most are worse but the barometer is set.
******* SPOILERS******* Holy mother... what a pizza shaq that was. OK remember when you were in high school and you needed to write a five page paper but you were done at page 2.5 ? So you stretch and restate and end up weakening your arguement and doing major damage, ya that's what happened here. My goodness so much wrong with this movie. Yes, thank neo is the messiah, we get it, you do not have to hit me with a gefelta fish, thankyouverymuch. Seriously, you do not need to explain, inimate, hint at, chase away reasons why the oracle is a different actress. The original actress died. You don't even have to go the soap opera route (the role of the oracle will now be played by this other black lady with dreads). Just move on. "I'm making shells" Gimme a damn break. Homechick is stabbed with a scalpal, dies instantly. Trinity is impaled by multiple thick metal rods, has time for intimate 5 minute dialog. Source is the wizard of oz. Mechanic suits stolen straight from Aliens. The explanation of why Neo could stop the squids in the real world is WAY TOO F***ING convenient!!! All the bad ass skills of the seraph and you give me a replay of the lobby scene in part one, complete with the EXACT same moves by Trinity? What load of puppy poo. I feel violated. Will someone please shoot that frog a-hole and pull down Monica's blouse. Yes, Jada you are a bad ass pilot. We get it. Could the other jerk captain take the lord's name in vain a couple more times. wow what an jackass. BTW agent smith was not the best part of this movie, the dude taken over by smith was. Sack of meat. Awesome line. Uh ya, the fight with Neo and Smith; for those of you wanting the W brothers to do Superman, guess what? They just did. You just watched the fight between Kal-El and Zod. Again. As much as the first Matrix was innovative, this was a rip off on the same magnitude. As the Matrix left philosophical questions open to interpretation, this left giant plot holes and weak character development. That's it I'm done for now... Will see me slam this movie again? Maybe. I think I have an eye cramp from rolling them back in my head so many times.
