Ok Moonbus and Sup, as a true Rockets fan, you would want what ever it takes for the Rox to win. But there is exceptions to the rule. I voted no, not even because of cheapshots or what ever sick act Malone does. I don't want him because as a true Rox fan, you must must hate Malone. There's no major explanations except you don't want to see Farve on the Vikings, you don't want Bird on the Lakers, you don't want Pedro pitching for the Yanks and you sure as hell don't wan't Malone playing for the Rox. Certain things just arent' suppose to happen.
1. Malone has never won anything. 2. Malone would only make the team a few things for sure - dirty, underhanded and hated - those are the only 'facts' we know. 3. We have no idea of the details of this mythical trade. There is no way we know if it would be an 'improvement' or not. Who would we give up? How much would it cost? Who else would we get? Who would be on the team he'd come to? 4. Malone has caused a great deal of anger to the Houston Rockets franchise as a whole. It only makes sense that fans of the team would see this player as a negative, especially given the points ^^^ Nice try with the analogy, but it doesn't hold. Sorry.
For me Malone is right there with Kermit Washington. Kermit had "the punch", Malone has attempted and had several altercations of that nature.(Ended a Rice player's career and many many other horrible acts). Now I ask you Malone lovers..... would you want Kermit? cause its just as bad
I just want to say this. Probably not all that rational, but it's from me as a Rockets fanatic: If you do not have intense hatred and repulsion toward some players or teams to match your intense love and loyalty toward your team and players, then you are not a real fan. You are a fair weather fan. If your idea of a team you root for is just a collection of talents that win for you, with no regard of their characters and personalities, then you are not a real fan. You are a fantasy league fan.
What is there to lighten up? I was not mad or anything. I (and I believe many others) just thought it was a bad comparison to match Malone with Hitler. Some poster(s) on other threads got ripped because of their love for Francis while talking about loyalty. Many have said that loyalty to a player is stupid, loyalty should only be to a team. These are the same posters that say 'No Way!' to Malone. Now who is contradicting themselves? Is that what it comes to? Can't make an explaination, so call another poster a Malone non-hater? Too bad the search function doesn't work, else you will find me hating in many old Malone threads. ================= Neither have TMac, but everyone is in love with him. I guess a life time avg of 25ppg and 10rpg and a sure HOF are not facts. And how much do we really know about the TMac trade? What if they want Francis + Cat + Cato + 2 1st round picks? What if they want Yao? But that's the emotional side, not the business side. If Malone can help this team win, why not, from a business stand point? Thank you for playing, next... =============== See, I have no problem with that and I agree 100%. The problem I do have is posters who call out other posters because of their love for certain players. The biggest problem I have is using the "your loyalty should be to the team, not a certain player", then turn around and hating a player even though that player may help the team.
Yes but he's still young and has the bulk of his career in front of him. Malone's has played out. He was never quite good enough to take his team over the hump; couldn't get past Michael, Hakeem, etc. At least with McGrady there's still the P-factor that he will someday drag a team on his back to the title. Karla may get his ring as a role player, but it ain't the same thing.
I don't doubt TMac's potential (although, I'm leary of his back), but the statement was Malone has never won anything. And at this point neither has TMac. By the end of the playoff, Karla is going to get his ring. That is one more than TMac. No, he didn't carry the Lakers, but he sure did contribute. To say that Karla won't help this team is just blind hatred (Which I really don't have a problem with).
Remember what should be remembered, forget what should be forgot. Change what can be changed, and accept what can't be changed!!!
But Tmac still might. Malone never will other than as a role player. If, 18 years in, Tmac is still ringless as Karl was, than fine....but we ain't there yet. Tmac has never won anything in the early stages of his career; Karla never won anything in the early, prime, and late stages of his career and only is hanging on now as a role player. Different animals.
forget to mention, didnt we have charles oakley on our team for a short time, who is suppose to be more dirty than karla.
I don't think Oakley's dirtier than Malone. Oakley also plays physical, but if he wants to hurt someone, he hurts them and makes it obvious. He doesn't do something and try to put it off as an accident. And he doesn't play to hurt people for no reason. Malone on the other hand, hurts people (or threaten injuries) just to throw their games off. Once again, I hate Malone, not even for the dirty plays but because I hate Malone. Through out the whole LA - Hou series, I was screaming for someone to take out his ankle, god that would've been sweet.
SamFisher pretty much spelled it out for you, but I'll add a few footnotes. Ah, at least you stopped making the analogy so thinly veiled. Nice to know you decided the topic was about TMac. Who is young and possibly has a great career ahead of him, BTW. As Sam pointed out. Well, since you set down the groundwork - and we are apparently talking about this mythical trade in the current sense, seeing as how you bring in TMac and all... ...Malone ain't a 25 and 10er anymore. Sorry. Again, glad you decided this was about TMac. But what we were talking about was getting Malone...with no other details. So all your what ifs are nice, but ultimately are pointless. If we actually had the details to decide that, then we could begin to answer the queston. When you can relate 'do you want Malone on the team' to actual details of a real trade, of a real time period, and of a real set of players to be included in said mysterious trade, then all that would actually come into play. Unfortunately, it doesn't.
Not true. When Horry went, did you suddenly care less for the Rockets and start rooting for teams on which he played? When Sam left, did your love of the Rockets lessen in order to follow where Sam was playing? To me, a 'real fan' of their team would be unable to jump from ship to ship following a player. You love the player while they are here, wish them well if they go, and watch your team and see what shape it takes when it is reborn.
