Wow. I just got back from the 6:15 showing here in NYC, and I've just gotta say... wow. Truly a spectacular movie-going experience. The beginning was a little slow, but the movie picked up and never stopped. the battle scenes were just plain sick. I was completely blown away by the Mumakil (war elephants) and Minas Tirith in general. The fight with Shelob was better than I thought it was going to be, too. Truly one of the best trilogies, ever, if not the best. I walked out of the theater thinking I'd just experienced movie history. I never felt that way watching the Star Wars prequels... I will echo nomar's sentiments with one complaint, though: They cut a couple scenes I really wanted to see. Sauron's Mouth, Gandalf vs. the Nazgul (in the trailer), the Houses of Healing (Faramir hooks up with Eeowyn), and Saruman's demise were sorely missed. However, the extended DVD version should make a great movie even better by adding back those scenes. Oh, and some of you are sissies. It wasn't THAT sad of a movie. Sure, my wife cried, but she ALWAYS cries. The rest of you have no excuse. -------SPOILER------- One more thing: The fall of Sauron was very, very cool.
I just wanted to add...how badass was Gandalf during the battle when he was spinning his staff around and stomping serious orc ass? That was freaking great.
Just saw the movie today. It kicked some serious ass! It takes a special movie for me to sit there for 3 1/2 hours and enthralled for every minute. Best movie of the year, at least of those that I saw. I'm hoping Jackson films the Hobbit soon. "That still only counts as one."
just saw it but am pissed... there were no multiple endings in my showing, probably because im watching an international version. I even stayed past the credits to see, but they turned it off. damn, now i have to wait until january to see it again in the states. but it was a great movie, I dont mind sitting down for three hours again
I finally took my kids down to the Mall of GA theater and it was awesome. What a great way to end the triology, but I'm almost sad that there is no other movie to look forward to.
Does anyone know if any part of LOTR is available in IMAX format and where the IMAX theaters are in Houston or surrounding? I only know of the Wortham and Moody garden and they don't show them.
Saw it yesterday! Simply awsome! The scene where Legolos(sp?) brings down one of those elephants was excellent! And if Sean Astin doesn't get an acadamy award nom, there is no justice in the world! Sam Wise Rocks!!!!
this concept is better explained in the book. after being stabbed by a Ringwraith, and poisoned by Shelob..the pain from those wounds never really healed...add that to the mental and physical scars of bearing the Ring of Power for as long as he had....he went away to rest with the rest of the Elves.
Thing about that question logically. You asked if there was IMAX LOTR, and I told you where it is. Then you ask if it's IMAX.
Forgot to mention this - did anyone else see a bunch of red dots on a white background in the middle of scenes? Some sort of anti piracy feature. I saw it a couple of times during my screening. If this is on the DVD, I'll be mighty pissed.
It was time for men to ascend and Elves to go to where they would spend the rest of time, and it conveniently makes the battle for Middle Earth a bit more challenging.
Went and saw it a second time, this time with my parents. Mom cried at the death of the one major character other than Gollum, oh hell, who am I kidding?, when Theoden bit it, she cried. Theoden was her favorite character. Quibbles with the movie? They didn't need to use the word "hope" so much. They did cater to the Lifetime crowd so that it wouldn't be a special effects extravaganza. They could have made smoother transitions between the "endings" so that people wouldn't clap too soon (I smiled when audience-members were clapping between the "endings": "No, not yet my precious," I thought.) But the simple truth is, the only movie that can top this one would be the Extended Edition when we can see Saruman and Wormtongue; Houses of Healing; Mouth of Sauron; Frodo and Sam marching with the Orcs; et al.
