re: Wormtongue and Saruman... after getting kicked out of Isengard, they make their way to the Shire to take it over. This is the part that got left out of the movie. Wormtongue kills Saruman after Frodo and Co. re-take the Shire and then Wormtongue is killed by the hobbit archers. re: Merry/Pippen and the Ring they didnt, all they knew was that halflings had it, when the Orcs of the White hand ambushed the party...they took Merry and Pippin thinkin they were the halflings that were spoken of. Sauron and Saruman communicated with one of the palantiri(or the Seeing Stones of Numenor), so that Saruman was supposed to send the halflings to Mordor, but decided to take them for himself. re: Faramir and Eowyn.. not sure what exactly you are referring to here. They marry and settle in Ithilien in Gondor..I dont know how this part may have gotten changed n the movie...I havent seen it yet. All my answers are from reading the book a million times. re:Leaving for the West For reasons to complex to explain here...the time of the Elves and High born was over in Middle Earth..the Elves were headed back across the sea to their ancient home in the West to live in peace since they had defeated for good the menace that was Sauron. re: Gandalf beats the hell out of me...If I was that powerful, I would use it all the time. Maybe he doesnt want the people of Middle Earth to get used to depending on him to fight their battles all the time....he always advided and lends a hand when needed...but he always seemed to encourage them to do things themselves.
Frodo had born the RIng for so long, he would never have had peace from the aftereffects of it....same deal with Bilbo. So they were allowed to go to the West to rest for the rest of their lives.
I once bashed LOTR hard, but that was directed toward the first episode. The second episode is grand in the end and I'm looking forward to watching the third.
This could easily be a six movie series, just like the books are really six books broken into three volumes, but it would never make any money that way. The average American wouldn't wait six years to get the pay off. Watching all three extended DVD's may clear things up a bit but you really need to read the books. For instance, there was a whole series of events at the end of The Return of the King the book that explains what happened to Sarumon. Even reading the books doesn't give you the whole story. It helps to read The Hobbit, but to really get the whole story read the Silmarillion.
Yea, in order to fully understand the origins of Sauron and the line that Aragorn comes from and why he is the true king by blood and the reason why the Elves go back to the West...you must read the Silmarillion. I still cant believe they left out the part at the Barrow Downs in the first movie. Is that in the extended version? I havent seen it yet.
Thank you and PieEatingFattie for taking the time to educate me, it's been about twenty years since I read the books, so there's a lot of stuff I have forgotten. spoiler for the movie even if you read the book... I was also just pointing out a few of what I think would be many, many issues for people who watch the movie and haven't read the books recently.
Great ****ing movie. Absolutely spell-binding. Shelob was tremendous. I loved it. Anyone who bashes this movie can go to hell.
That is true..it is an unfortunate side effect of having such a deep and complex saga converted to film...there is no way you can get all aspects in the movies. I would hope that if folks are curious, they will go ahead and read(or re-read) the books to get and appreciate the genuis that is JRRT. I've seen this happen with my kids...my middle kid actually read the series so she could really understand it after the Fellowship came out, which was a good thing since she had never shown any inclination towards reading for pleasure previously. My youngest had always preferred movies and tv till the Harry Potter series came out..now she is interested in reading.
Great, great movie! But the real question: which ones of you sissies cried during the movie? I probably would have but since I saw the movie with my gf I had to keep it in.
DEATH TAXES NOMAR BASHES LOTR MOVIES ROTK is now sitting at 98% on RottenTomatoes.com with 141 reviews in (3 of them "rotten").
...sorry about answering late, nomar, but...THIS IS A SPOILER FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN"T SEEN IT YET... The part where the daughter is saying to the laid down fallen father,..."I've got to save you",...His reply,..."You already saved me".... C'mon...whether this was considerate homage to the the original rave triology or what, you gotta easily see through this...Still great movie...was last to leave with pride!
Saw this last night...Freakin' Awesome...I liked the final installment the best... One of the best Trilogy's ever...
Wow...just saw it last night, and I'm still blown away. Battle scenes did not dissapoint at all, and I would have to say that Legolas is the biggest badass ever.
I'll admit it. I did. Twice. Actually the last half hour or so was a pretty constant flow. Come on! We have gotten to know these characters for 11 hours! Awesome movie. I'm going back to see it tomorrow. Sweet flick across. One of my five fav's.
Juste saw it... Best movie of the year! ...though in the end you kind of get tired of the multiple endings. Another thing is that waiting for a last battle Aragon/human form of Saruman. And what ever happened to Eowin? She didn't get what she wanted(Aragon) and all we see of her at the end is her standing in the croud smilling... ALA
In the Houses of Healing she falls in love with Faramir, they get married, Gondor and Rohan are united with their marriage. I cannot remember exactly but I think Aragorn makes Faramir a Duke or something. Should be in EE.
Sissy! For those complainig of the multiple endings (have seen a few posts here and a few critics mention this): I loved the multiple endings. I didn't want the movie to end! Hopefully the extended version has even more endings.
This movie was terrible. Pathetic plot, crappy digital characters, bad acting, etc. Why did I waste my money on this? Oops, sorry, thought this was the Episode 1 thread.
***Spoliers**** It was a good movie. Not anything close to the original intent of the book, but all the little things just added up to pissing me off more than I should of been. Maybe its just because I'm a nerd, but the omition of what constitutes half of book VI really detracts from the major point of the movie. And the fact that Sam never puts the ring on sucks too. Such a major part of the book. To their credit though, this tale was impossible to capture fully in cinema. Simply too much going on. Thats why Tolkien sold the movie rights for a hundred pounds...thinking it would never be done.
