Nomar, I know you want a true fanboy LOTR movie, but let me put it this way: Tom Bombadil + lots of singing + no real female presence (i.e. the books) + unnecessary exposition about Elfstones, Middle-Earth history, and sword origins + anti-climactic scouring of Shire + EVEN MORE Treebeard + 4 hour runtime for each movie = $100 million gross for each movie. Damn cool unnecessary action + some semblence of a love story and strong female character + a little reworking to get the elves more screen time + beautiful cinematography (i.e. sweeping panoramic shots) + deep cuts to get movie length down = $300 million gross for each movie. I don't agree with ALL the decisions Peter Jackson has made regarding the movies (notably, leaving out the Denethor/Faramir/Boromir scene in TTT theatrical version and cutting all of Saruman's scenes in ROTK), but for the most part, Jackson has done a fantastic job of adapting the books for the masses to enjoy.
I just gotta add that the last two nights I have watched the EEs of both movies and I am so floored for tonight.
Isn't there a HUGE difference between ALTERNATE endings and several storylines being resolved? I'm sure there'd be tons of 's if Jackson cut the ending down to 1 minute instead of allowing a 10 hr trilogy have some resolution.
OK, now I'm confused. We have heard so far that the ending sequences of the Razing of the Shire and the scenes where Bilbo, Frodo, Gandalf, Elrond and Galadriel leave ME for the journey to Elf Home arent going to be shown. but according to this, they are..
Wow....the reviews for this one are unreal! I was worried about this being another crappy ending to a trilogy, but it sounds like ROTK will not dissapoint.
Scouring of the Shire = out. This has been confirmed. Leaving for the Grey Havens = in. The second-to-last song on the ROTK soundtrack is called "The Grey Havens," and the Annie Lennox song is called "Into the West."
I can't wait, but it'll be too crowded tonight...I'll probably wait until the first show on Saturday, matinee of course...
Most reviews indicate that if the movie has a fault, it has too many endings. But the same reviews also say, And that's OK. Probably these "endings" match with the book's but seem more pronounced on the screen than on the page. Battle of the Pelennor Fields. The stand at the Black Gate. Arriving at Mount Doom. Character farewells. Imagine what the critics would have said if the scouring of the Shire had been included. "Dayumn, I thought this thing was over!"
The biggest mistake I made was watching The Two Towers at 9:00 pm. Even with all the noise, I almost fell asleep...
Yesterday I watched the first two extended DVDs back to back. What a journey that was... Can't wait for the next film.
I've got tickets to go see it Wednesday at 7:00. I wonder if getting there an hour early will be good enough to find a decent seat?
I've got tickets to see it Wednesday at 7pm also. I plan on being there an hour early, but others are saying 1/2 hour or so. I am so frickin psyched for this!
My whole office is going to the midnight showing...not me though, I have kids. Half of the guys went to the trilogy today...2pm, 7:30pm, and midnight.... They have to be at work at 10am sharp...I can't wait to hear what they think. I will probably hold out until Thursday noon time. DD
Yeah, my buddy Geoff called me at 4am this morning to tell me how I need to take a sick day and catch it. Er.....no...but I do have tickets for 5pm.
