Nope sorry. Only for people who hate to tip, or are stuck in 1981 maybe. Most people I associate with tip at or more than 20 percent, for places like Fridays, IHOP, Denny's, ect. And actually will tip a higher percentage at a place like Dennys or IHOP understanding that these people work just as hard as the big resturaunts (cleaning up your plates, refilling your drinks, ect ect) but have smaller ticket items to work with. So they will get a larger percentage.

I dont know what to say to you bub. I almost spend 50 bucks taking a family of 5 to Sonics. I guess thats a high end atmosphere for you. And as I said above, I usually tip higher percentages at lower end places with the understanding of smaller ticket prices. If I spent 8 dollars to eat at Denny's. Im not going to be like you and break out the calculator to figure out: "Ok 15 percent of 8 dollars, well my drink didnt get filled before I was two drinks from finishing it so there goes one percent. And they were a bit rushed, and my salad had a little brown to it, and we all know the salad is prepared by the server so there goes 4 more percent...ok 10 percent of 8 dollars is .80 cents. Puhhhhhhhlease man. If my bill is 8-10 dollars, Im leaving at least a 5. Regardless. If you cant handle these aspects of eating out, then dont eat out man.

But But But what would happen if all the servers didnt work at Denny's and went to high end restaurants? Where would you get your Denny's food from, the managers? Please dude. Just because someone is happy working a job that fits their schedule or skill set, doesnt make you privvy to sabotage what they do or their earning potential because you are the all powerful decider of the tip.

Wow even more flabbergasted. You REALLY REALLY think this is the case? You think that the server figured "Yeah, I can turn a table quicker and make more money by chasing my current customers off and probably get stiffed for a penny" You really think a server is willing to risk losing the last hours work by rushing you off just to get another table in your spot? FLAB ER GAS TED.

No doubt. If someone yells at you, treats you disrespectfully, withholds your food purposfully, ignores you, talks on a cell phone while you wait for your drink refills. Then by all means leave the one penny tip. But what you are associating with your one penny tips isnt the servers fault, and 999,999,999 out of every 1,000,000,000 isnt a servers fault.

No the server is NOT. That is YOUR horrible misunderstanding. If you go to a clothing store and you receive horrible service from someone youd probably do what.....thats right, see the manager. If the Clothing store rushes you out before you were done shopping, youd probably what....thats right talk to the manager, or call their corporate office. Im going to go out on a limb and guess that this particular night, you took your good old time eating, didnt care others were waiting, and the management team implemeted a "get the slow people out" policy. It wouldnt take an FBI agent to of said "May I speak to the manager".

Once again you assume it was the server who hosed you. More than likely it wasn't even their fault. But you didnt have the consideration to find out first.

I have had the "pressure" put on me before. I took two ladies out to an Olive Garden on Valentines day. I got the immediate cleanups. The quick "would you like any dessert" The fast leaving of the check, and even the, "excuse me sir, we have a long waiting time, would you mind hurrying so we can accomodate other guests" (This was before my wife) I had no problem with it. It part of what I assume is the guidelines to eating out on a busy night. Your analogies are asinine and hold no context to what is at hand. For isntance, if the Bus Company had a rule to limit peoples time on the bus, should you then blame the Bus Driver?

The service is in receiving your food, getting your refills, not being crabby, and giving you as prompt a service as possible. Everything else is apples to oranges when it comes to tipping the SERVER.

    I
Once again, you associate things that arent neccessarily the servers fault with tipping. You associate amount of check with tipping, you associate where you are to tipping. Here, make it easier. Dont do anything tipping related. Dont eat out, Dont get hair cuts, dont have your car parked.

No it won't because it could be construed as a customer who was cheap. 1 penny leaves the message very clearly that I hated the service. And yes, I've agreed in another post that it is petty. I'll own up to that :D

F off Dreamshake. Stop attacking my character because you make all these assumptions of how the waiters are never wrong and never rush people and are always pressured by their managers. No matter what argument I make it will be asinine to you because your assumptions are already in place about what is right and wrong.
No matter that there is no where that says 20% is the standard other than your high and mighty friends. No matter that I said I've only done this twice and in situations I felt was deserved. Situations where you've concocted all sorts of scenarios that try to 'disprove' my reasoning even though I was there and you weren't. Even though a tip is for service and not a salary. And even though I would never take your advice to 'just stay home' because I don't meet your mythical standards.
So again I say, just f off.

Since this thread is totally derailed, how much do you tip waitstaff at a buffet? I rarely go to buffet's but we had a "special meal" at L'Auberge Du Lac yesterday. (Only part of the crew's was paid for, and mine wasn't.) I started to tip a buck on a $12 ticket, sort of felt cheap, and tipped $2. It seems to me that waitstaff at a buffet have about half as much work per customer as waitstaff at a regular restaurant. Should they get a smaller tip?
