I can't believe we're seriously sitting here discussing assistants we should hire to work under JB. Didn't we go through this nonsense 2 years ago? The Rockets foolishly held onto McHale after the Blazers loss and tried in vain to surround him with competent assistants who could cover for his shortcomings. The end result? McHale gets fired a little over a year later anyway and it winds up costing Les an extra 13 mil. Why not just get a real head coach this time and stop screwing around with an incompetent failed experiment like JB?

I don't this he's talking about hiring Hollins to work under JB. I think he is talking about getting Hollins in addition to another HC

He was talking about both. But he spent way more time discussing the scenario where Hollins is JB's assistant. There is no way JB has any business being the Rockets head coach next season unless the organization has the express purpose of tanking.

When has Hollins done anything worthwhile? Hasn't he failed his last two stops?

    you got it.

and for the record i agree with you, but in that post i was stating that there is a chance that les/morey will keep jbb. i of course would be against such a move, but its a possibility.

the only way i see that happening is if thibs, brooks, walton, and maybe hollins are off the market.

in 5 years with the grizzlies he won:

    33%
    48%
    56%
    62%
    68% - WCF

he got the nets to the playoffs last year. he's a good coach.

Like I said, the Rockets better be pulling an epic tank job then if JB is brought back. Which I'm fine with. But considering Les has never been onboard with that, the return of JB is more likely an indication that Les really doesn't give a crap about coaching(or at least paying good money for it).

WTF no one mentions Randy Wittman? He will be the best option when the Rockets get eliminated from the Playoffs. Thibodeau will be gone by then. Randy Wittman should be in the Rockets list.

Just curious - we have at least 3 games left. But would the Rockets FO already be speaking with potential head coaches already? ie Thibs, Brooks or whomever?
Or would they wait until the season was officially over and Rockets are eliminated?

I get on 1 hand they wouldn't want any leaks with us still in the finals (technically) and JB still at the helm.
BUT.... with Wizards, Kings and others who aren't in the finals and have sacked coaches they'd already be on the hunt speaking with replacement, meaning we could miss out on any possible targets.

i knew marks would hire someone from the spurs coaching line. aktinson learning from coach bud was close enough i guess lol. good hire. i liked him, but knew he wouldn't be a big enough name to attract les, and probably too risky for morey to hire a bit of an unknown. for the nets, a coach who specializes in player development and offense is just what a rebuilding team needs.

i was happy to see sean marks give a similar description of atkinson today, as i did in my original post many weeks ago:

to tie this back to being rockets related: the nets were never really after any of our top tier candidates so it doesn't really help us that they're off the market now. if the knicks would lose out on walton already that would help. i'm sure kerr will talk walton out of walking away from the knicks as he did, but you never know. phil, porzingis, the garden, its big time.

Let's narrow this list down to real coaches.

I could see Brooks in LA. They're a young team on the rise(albeit several years down the road) which is similar to his first head coaching gig with the Thunder. And unlike OKC, LA is a great attraction for free agents.

As for Thibs and Minnesota, if he's really looking for front office power, he ain't coming here. He's likely to get way more control if he signs with the T'Wolves.

Not many options in terms of name coaches. Les will have to get off his lazy ass and start looking at young assistants or possibly even college coaches. There are plenty out there.

If we lose Brooks or Thibs because we made the playoffs, then I guess I should've been pro-tank after all

If we and other teams lose Thibs to MIN, it won't be because of the playoffs, it will be because of Karl-Anthony Towns.

Sam Cassell is well liked among the players, but I don't think they're going the direction of a players' coach. I'm up for Thibs or JVG with an offensive coordinator.
