So I'm going to wait and buy the blu-ray for the second season, to binge watch. Heard the season / book started off really badly, mainly due to character development? And then it got good in the latter half of the season?
You can watch the last two episodes online at the Nick site: http://www.nick.com/shows/legend-of-korra/
One theory I read was that it came from the tea she drank with Iroh. That's good enough for me, now I'm trying to figure out the blue megazord. I guess the cosmic trail we saw with Aang and now Korra was more of a personal/spiritual transcendance thing and not an avatar thing. Besides the little confusing things like that, that was a great 2 hours of animation I just watched.
I thought this season went from being OK to great once they did the hour long episode on Wan (sp?). Spoiler Spirit-Jinora flying in to save the day was kind of weird. I would like to have known exactly how she was able to do that, but it's not a huge deal. And I'm surprised that Korra is still separated from all previous Avatars. I assumed something would suddenly happen and set things right. Not that it's a bad thing, it just surprised me. In fact, it could be seen as a good thing. Will be interesting to see how the free roaming spirits/humans will play out, since we have two more full seasons of this show. And with this finale I am now out of reasons to have cable. It was the only show I've been watching since Breaking Bad went off the air.
Just got around to watching the 2nd season. Those Wan episodes were simply epic. Absolutely loved them and it gave me that feeling of awe and wonder when I was first introduced to The Last Airbender many years ago. Kinda wish the show was "The Legend of Wan" instead of "The Legend of Korra".
Thank the Lion Turtles, Korra Book 3 is almost here. This is the official US trailer so Book 3 should be coming pretty soon. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/A0UBbzeFc74" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> A trailer breakdown since the trailer has no dialog. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/etxKnJQFujU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Apparently someone from a Mexican Nickelodean company accidentally uploaded episodes from book 3 to their website for a full day. It seems episodes 3-6 found their way to the net, fan English subbed. I guess borrow at your leisure if you cant wait.
Anybody know an exact date it's coming back? All I've heard is summer 2014. And I hope they never try to make a live movie version of this like they did with the original Avatar series.
Man, I'm trying so hard to hold off on watching those leaked episodes... Until episodes 1 and 2 have aired, them I'm diving right in.
Heads up guys, Korra is back THIS FRIDAY JUNE 27th with a 90 minute season premiere! That's 3 episodes! There won't be another episode the following week but you can borrow leaked episodes 4-6 from the internet. Guaranteed, if they didn't accidentally leak those episodes we wouldn't be getting Book 3 so soon. Nick is absolutely horrible with scheduling. you can tell they are trying to mitigate the damage by rolling it out so soon after the trailer. set your DVRs.
I'm glad it's back, but Nickelodeon better market the hell out of it by Friday. I didn't know anything about it until you posted it. I know they're just hastily throwing the episodes on because of the leaks, and while I am glad to have it back on, I kinda wish they would have just moved past the leaks and stuck to their original schedule with propper build up for the show.
Can't wait for Friday, but Nick is setting themselves up for disappointing ratings again with their moronic lack of advertising.
I still don't understand what happened with the last season of Aang's story. They take a 6 month break midseason and then air the last 10 episodes within a span of a week.
The big 3, CN, Nick, and Disney, don't really like these type of shows and don't advertise appropriately for them anyway. Just look at all the shows that have been popular yet cancelled because they didn't sell enough merch or the demo wasn't exactly in the right range (Avengers:EMH, Spectacular Spiderman, Justice League, Young Justice). Korra is literally the only action cartoon on TV that is for kids but isn't aggressively silly and doesn't treat them like dunce caps. Nick has been trying to kill Avatar for years. Like the guy above me said. At the height of Last Airbender popularity they go on Hiatus and then Burn off the remaining episodes just because. Not worried about them advertising the show; People will find it. Plus, it doesn't matter how popular it is if it isn't making money. It's already greenlit for a 4th season so I'm happy it's back and will enjoy it until it gets cancelled.
Cartoon Network is a mess. I think all the examples you listed (and the ones I bolded) were cancelled by CN. Avatar (Aang version and TLoK) is pretty well received, I think, by all the ages in the projected demo. Like a poster said, Nick is just premiering this super early because of the leaks, and not because they want the franchise to die. When's the last time a Nick cartoon got a blu-ray treatment? The new version of TMNT is really good too, and that only got a DVD release, iirc. I'm not saying that getting blu-ray'd means that Nick loves the holy crap outta Korra, but there was real demand. To be honest, I think Nick knows it has a winner with Avatar / Korra. Unfortunate circumstances, however, mucked things up.
Spectacular Spider-man fell victim to the Marvel/Disney merger (was airing on Kids WB and they decided to replace it with the comparatively terrible "Ultimate Spider-man" instead of renewing it on Disney XD). Avengers:EMH was another Marvel/Disney F up (in favor of replacing it with the godawful and horribly paced "Avengers Assemble"). Justice League and Young Justice's cancellations were on CN, but the former had a long and very successful 5 season run (14 seasons if you count the entire DCAU) and the creators (Bruce Timm and co) even admitted they were getting a bit tired of it (they almost sounded disappointed when it was renewed for its final season, lol). Young Justice was a show I absolutely LOVED and hated to see get cut short, but it retrospect it got 2 full seasons to tell a complete story and it did seem like Greg Weisman might have been running out of ideas towards the end. All this isn't to absolve CN of their many failures (the premature cancellations of Green Lantern: TAS and Beware the Batman were terrible) but just to say that the blame for this incomprehensible bias against letting well-crafted action animated series finish their runs can be spread around. Thank god fan fervor has been able to keep Nick from cutting the cord on ATLA or LOK.
