Great news, I wonder where they're going with the next season. I think it's a fine point that they've acknowledged this season or last, that the antagonists had relevant points only taken to the extremes, and this mixing with Korra's sensibilities is what's haunting her as someone who's trying to be a hero. Part of the reason why it was so easy for Zaheer to turn into a good guy. Anyway, was this new firelord ever introduced to us previously? I think her name was Azumi, but if this last episode was her introduction then it was injected so casually that it feels like she's gonna be important next season. Like Kuvira in last season's finale.
I have some bad news for you: There is no "next season." The show and the Avatar universe ends with season 4 of Korra.
Anyone else think this season needs to turn it up a few notches? Though the premise was simple, I really felt Amon was menacing. Then the spirits weren't my favorite but I felt the were necessary and added another layer. Zaheer was a bad ass. Kuvira is a powerful bender, and she has a giant army to boot, but I just feel like it's missing the level of "epic-ness" that would really bring a great close to the series. I don't want a total rehash of Aang vs Ozai, but I just hope LoK has a strong finish.
I'm with you on that. I'm thinking/hoping the last 3 episodes will be more intense. Kuvira is set to wage war on everybody and Korra is attempting to get the spirits to fight on her side. So things are setting up for a major battle. Even the last two episode titles make it sound like big things will happen - "Day of the Colossus" and "The Last Stand" But in this last episode the Suyin-Kuvira fight was pretty dang good (as have been most all the fights on LoK) so I was happy with it. Kuvira herself isn't the foe that Zaheer and the Red Lotus were, but I still like the approach the creators of the show took with this season. Typically in these types of shows/films/whatev, the story ends when the baddest bad guy has been beat. Look no further than A:TLA - first it was Admiral Zhao, then Princess Azula, then the Firelord. And then the show ended. With TLoK we get to see what happens after the baddest bad guy - a crippled, or at least hampered, protagonist. And how that protagonist recovers from the baddest bad guy to become the leader/hero/Avatar she needs to be. That the new villain in the LoK story would be a political figure who used strong-arm tactics to take control nation whose previous leader was taken out by Zaheer is compelling and smart on the creators' part. All in all, I really like the show (obv). But I would go so far as to say that despite a weak ending to season 1 and a weak start to season 2 (and assuming a strong finish to the series), I like the Legend of Korra more than I liked The Last Airbender. And that's surprising to me because I really liked TLA. They are different types of shows, I know, but I so often hear people say that the first series was much better than this series. I think people may be selling TLoK short.
Well the weapon of mass destruction is pretty threatening. I think this is the first time the villain has really threatened mass genocide. The ending is a little obvious because the spirits are probably going to come out of nowhere and help out with convincing from Jinora
It feels a bit like not much has happened this season - but I think that's mostly because they've taken such care to keep Korra and Kuvira apart for most of it; I've still really enjoyed each episode individually and boy are the creators of this show ever excellent at building compelling villains. Doubt this will end up being my favorite season of Korra, but it's still been more than worthy of the Avatar name.
Definitely a bummer that we're at the twilight of the series, and the "lion turtle" moment of the season is already pretty much out there. The mech is pretty cool, but I wish we could see what was powering it or that they had a more advanced system of controlling it. I think I was more impressed with their animation of the Drill from Aang's time, but for some reason fan reaction to that show might've been low (based on the ember island players episode blowing it off).
My love for Kuvira has waned as her actions and motivations have become more cliche. There are times every season where I feel Bryke waste time that they could have better spent developing their villains as full characters (even Azula and Zaheer to some extent). I'd say it's the anime watcher in me, but Greg Weisman manages to do this consistently on his shows. Hope they can squeeze in some backstory for her in these final 2 episodes.
I'm with everyone in saying that there isn't enough back story around Kuvira and the end seems pretty predictable. Korra is going into the "big" avatar form and kick the mech's ass.
I can't stop watching this, so I figured I would post it here and share the greatness. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/lVyGC6O_Ck8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Just watched the ending Spoiler Was hoping for more of a one on one battle with Kuvira and Korra since she got bopped last time. Mako with the Lightning action was really cool. That was pretty cold blooded that they brought back Asami's dad just to kill his ass, but Korra and Asami taking their lesbo vacation in the spirit world at least made up for her losing her dad All in all Couldve been better but I enjoyed it and the series and am sad this will mark the end of the series
Loved the finale. Kuvira's motivations were explored, we got some amazing animation and the action was top notch, as usual. Mako, Price Wu, Bolin, Asami, and even Milo all had great character moments. Definitely bittersweet that this all has come to an end, but I loved it for what is was. I'll really miss the animated Avatar universe. Also about that Korrasami ending, if this already exists: it tells you how far they were willing to go and got reined in somewhat by the network. Kudos to them. I could care lees about orientation and this was the most organic, well-developed, couple on the show.
Edit: Thought that gif was leaked unused animation from someone on the creative team, but found out on reddit it's just some extremely talented fans that work FAST. Check out this webm where they added more spirit portal effects: http://imgur.com/xWg5JPR. Pretty cool
Really good finale. As with most of the season Kuvira's real motivations seemed kind of off. You just wanted your people to be safe? Would buy it more if you weren't blowing up buildings at random ten minutes ago. Could have been an all-time great villain. To me, ended up a lot of wasted potential though still well-acted and well-animated. Aside from that I loved this episode. I thought going in that season 4 was definitely below season 3 in my personal hierarchy (and probably level with season 1) but the finale was so good I'm going to have to let it sink in before I can really decide my favorite season. I liked how they did the ending. A cartoon on a kids' network doesn't need to drop shocking moments of activism, just write great characters with realistic chemistry and people will understand their love. It was a nice, classy way of finishing out that stealth love story arc with clarity.
Lol, I was about to say. I'm sure the creators wished they could do something like that tho. It's pretty obvious what's going on between the girls at the end. I kinda was hoping for some more resolution between Bolin and Opal...but I guess what happened after saving her parents is all we get. Really wish they could do a movie or something
I never noticed until it was all over: All the strong characters in Legend of Korra were women! This series could have used more strong MALE characters. How many times do you say that about an action cartoon? NEVER. All the strong female characters (and there is a HUGE amount of them), an implied lesbian relationship, the unimportance of Toph's husband's, even the killing off of Sokka's character and barely showing Aang or Zuko makes me think there was an agenda against the networks and outdated gender and age demo they seek and market to. Last Air Bender there was a healthy mix of strong male and female characters. Korra went full vagina worship! Seriously, every woman and girl on the show was a beast. The biggest b****es, personality wise, were the men, Tenzen, Mako, Bolin, Earth king guy. lol, wow. Asami's thirstiness finally payed off. What a great series! Sad it's over. That leaves Star Wars Rebels as the only action cartoon left on TV...
That ending was good. Could have been better. Will have to think on it more. But damn, is it just me or did they leave things open? Korra saying that she's just getting started and has so much to learn. Give me three animated Korra/Avatar films, please, Nickelodeon!
The epic graphics on the finale notwithstanding, the fourth book was terrible. Spoiler Literally had no plot twists, everything was hurtling towards an inevitable showdown with no drama at all. And it almost feels like they had an Invasion of the Bodysnatchers thing going on. What the hell was that BS with Asami's dad? Or Varek marrying his assistant? Nothing we had seen to that point led us to believe that any such character development was realistic. It was simply done out of convenience. Looking back, only books 1 and 3 were worth watching and anything close to the quality that we enjoyed with the Last Airbender. Now, I have no allegiances with gender rights or whatever ethical agenda the animators are trying to project. I'm not for or against anything when it comes to the underlying moral of the story. All I want is a freaking sensible story! None of the characters in book four ever really had any depth to them. Except maybe Korra who pretty much lost every fight in her last appearance on the big screen. As a final hint, have any of you ever thought that the reason Toph downplayed the identity of the father of her children was that it might actually have been another main character, borne out of wedlock? Even to her death she wouldn't be able to reveal her secret, for the sake of the legacy of her lover. Think about what other bending power makes an appearance in her bloodline.
